TartanTyneArmy Posted August 23, 2017 Posted August 23, 2017 Anyone else going? Only a tenner and 30 mins down the A19 from me here in Newcastle. I've opted for the wedge of seats in sections 47, 48, 49, 50 which basically look like they have been put aside for away fans. https://www.eticketing.co.uk/middlesbroughfc/details/event.aspx?itemref=3541
Kejan Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 The squad looks pretty exciting, and certainly gives you some hope for the future. First game against The Netherlands in a qualifier on Tuesday 5th September. Goalkeepers: Ryan Fulton (Hamilton Academical), Jack Ruddy (Wolverhampton Wanderers) Defenders: Jason Kerr (Queen of the South, on loan from St Johnstone), Ross McCrorie (Rangers), Scott McKenna (Aberdeen), Calvin Miller (Celtic), Anthony Ralston (Celtic), Liam Smith (St Mirren, on loan from Heart of Midlothian), John Souttar (Heart of Midlothian), Greg Taylor (Kilmarnock) Midfielders: Theo Archibald (Brentford), Chris Cadden (Motherwell), Adam Frizzell (Kilmarnock), Michael Johnston (Celtic), Stephen Mallan (Barnsley), Lewis Morgan (St Mirren), Dominic Thomas (Kilmarnock), Iain Wilson (Kilmarnock) Forwards: Oliver Burke (RB Leipzig), Ryan Hardie (Rangers), Oliver McBurnie (Swansea City), Scott Wright (Aberdeen)
MarkoRaj Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Lots of first team experience in there. Still some no marks from the old firm who haven't even had a sniff but can't have everything
HibeeJibee Posted August 24, 2017 Posted August 24, 2017 Only way is up, really, given the last campaign saw us finish 5th in a 6-team group managing just home-n-away wins against Northern Ireland and home draws v Iceland and Ukraine. Two losses to Montenegro the particular highlight. Just 7 of the 22 in the squad have caps at this level before - and only Fulton (3), Souttar (6), Hardie (3) and McBurnie (7) have more than 2 caps - so it is very much a fresh start. It will earn some ££ no doubt but I'm not sure if England (A) is necessarily the best friendly to choose, though. Their U21s reached SFs of June's Euro U21s; their U20s won the U20 World Cup and second-string U20s won Toulon skelping us 3-0; their U19s won Euro U19s. So very stiff test and last time at U21s we lost 6-0.

Ralston and Miller have impressed for Celtic this season and Johnston ripped us apart last season. Hardie played for Rangers at the weekend too.
paul-r-cfc Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 My wee cousin is the mascot at the Netherlands game next Tuesday so got hospitality tickets for that one
Kejan Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Watched most of the game with half an eye and Scotland were very impressive. We won 2-0 and looked better and even dare I say it, more skillful than the Dutch. We've got a c**t of a group - England, Netherlands, Ukraine as well along with Latvia and Andorra ; but that certainly was an excellent performance. Suppose it's not about qualifying, but hoping we can give England a good game next month.

HibeeJibee Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Fair enough - when I wrote that I hadn't realised the new U21 qualifiers started so soon . Should've thought it odd playing friendly v fellow group side. They drew in the Netherlands last midweek, we beat them 2-0 tonight, shoe-in .
