As someone with a working brain I find it unfathomable. Is she saying that our bead twirling friends are somehow unsafe? My da is an Alba voting indy nut who might be a bigger tim than the pope and I've heard no such grumbling from him. If only I knew that his and the safety of my ma were under threat.

I hate to bring football into this, but I would guess that she's more Celtic cult member than prayer card carrying catholic who never darkens the door of a church save for Christmas and (maybe) Easter.

Fomenting ideas of persecution is pathetic and irresponsible. Appalling.

She's apparently getting a bit of a doing on Twitter but I'm not sure what else to expect if you're going to tweet nonsense like that and then put yourself out there as a representative of the people. Instinct tells me she should maybe address this particular elephant in her room rather than mump about the nick of her DMs.

Labour's General Election candidate for Livingston and Linlithgow keen to represent Scots in whom she has no trust on the grounds that they're too anti-catholic. It's the sort of tweet that you'd think would fall into the "maths is shite" rantings of secondary school but seems to date from 2023.

That really is quite something. As neither a Unionist or Catholic, she'll state that I could never understand her position on the matter because I have never faced it......but what I can say for certain is that sharing these views, in Scotland, will get her nowhere. It's not an agenda from "people like me" that will stop her, but it's the people she is trying to play up too that will not support her, they're more inclined to turn around and say "rocket" rather than "she'll get my backing".

Just to correct myself, she appears to be a prospective candidate. I suspect this one tweet alone will ensure she doesn't secure the nomination. Unless Labour loses the absolute run of itself.

If I remember right they have to call themselves PPC (Prospective Parliamentary Candidate) when selected but before an election is called.

If they call themselves Candidate their election expenses start and she would have blown the budget for her GE campaign long before the election is called, as every leaflet and promotion she did would have to be an election expense and chargeable on her returns to the Returning Officer after the GE.

It a way of campaigning without it being an election expense.

She can still be deselected but if she calling herself prospective she will almost undoubtedly have been nominated and will be the PPC for the constituency party.

Generally agree with you but Phil Mac Gillygoon would very not.

I wonder if he's still a thing? Scared to look.

Herald giving up any small remaining pretence of a quality broadsheet and now just trolling......

And you wonder why the print media is on its deathbed.

In what kind of alternative universe are we living when the pantomime dame is awarded anything? Even by The herald.

Unbelievable. This tweet alone should have seen her pick up the "worst c**t in Scotland" award.

It’s not trolling. It’s just that in Scotland, and the U.K. more generally, we have an entire media class made up exclusively of utter c***s.

Saw in the stooshie over the Elgin Marbles that Labour would back the Tories, no surprise there, and keep them in Great backward Britain. Since when was retaining the proceeds of plunder a central plank of social justice/ socialism? Surely it should be fairly easy to say 'Yes, we'll return the stolen cultural wealth to where it belongs'?

No the marbles should be sent to India and Greece can have the Koh-i-nor!

On a more general note it is clear that Labour is going to match each Tory step between now and the next GE, I feel the period since Truss imploded has been a missed opportunity for them and that Labour would have been better off in terms of representing traditional Labour values and in electoral terms by trying to  halt the rightwards march at this point as I don't think the people they're pandering to will vote Labour in the end and that the pledges made in the meantime will hinder them if/when they do win.

I heard on the radio yesterday that Starmer would be happy to lend them to Greece indefinitely, without conceding ownership and thus not setting a precedent for all the other looted plunder. Also that the decision is in the hands of the museum, not the government, the British Museum chair being George Osborne who wants to return them. If this is all true it sounds like Sunak is preparing for a backlash when they're put on a ship to Athens in the near future.
