Don’t know how much he’s even trained with the first team (if at all) but to start in holding midfield on the day you officially sign and do a reasonable job at only 16/17 is some going. Hope he continues to develop and we see him in and around the first team squad again in the future. He’s already no worse than some of the jobbers who’ve played for us over the years. Like the look of the young man. At danger of cursing his future, there is a bit of a Billy Gilmour there I think.

I watched highlights today and it looks as if Fordyce is away on an attacking move ( as others say maybe not where his strength is) and McCabe is left to face up to Robertson unsuccessfuly . Rae also taken by surprise. But it's the missed chances which took the shine of quite an entertaining approach
Kenny_m
I know he's gone and we need to move on but can't help noticing that Raith rovers captain (Dylan) has just opened the scoring. Edited July 13, 2022 by Kenny_m

CHEMOMAN
Stream of conscience here....McCabe out-paced last night, needs to be in midfield. Please sign a brick shithouse defender. Dycey so far forward he was getting nose bleeds! Pens were shit. Ball was holding right up on the new pitch due to the ground up tyre pieces flying everywhere. Ballantyne looks a player. Ball on deck tactics are what we've been shouting for the last 2 seasons. Last but not least, LOVED seeing youth getting a chance and stepping up to the plate! I salute you Cole Gibson! Lucky to stay on the park but a great debut. Righto, had my tuppenceworth, away back to facebook for memes and AbiTV! Ta-Ta! PS Paying for pies with credit cards will never feel right!

Football is all about opinions, I think McCabe is different class at the back, not as effective when in midfield, Agree about an o!d school centre half , Fordyce barely won a clear defensive header and know where near the ball at attacking corner kicks, we struggled all last season and this season seems the same, the lad Leon Jones who is hanging around seemed decent enough against the Colts, expect him to sign but I don't see him being an upgrade or the level of McCabe or Fordyce or even Watson, which contradicts his signing policy (if Jones signs...) Another possible controversial comment should Fordyce remain as Captain, Rhys is the Manager, Fordyce Assistant Manager / Captain, would it not make more sense if Watson or Cammy B was made skipper which would lead to other players having leadership and more responsibility as the skipper, at the moment it seems a bit of a closed shop, which cannot be a good thing moving forward .....

FLDiamond
Over on the RR thread… appears Easton had an excellent game and scored a worldy. Think we have the makings of a really good squad but I’m hoping Rhys is making progress with finding Eastons ‘replacement’. He’s they type of players who can change games really quickly and help turn one point in to three. Yes, all the players look solid and will contribute but lacking the one with a bit of magic. I honestly have no idea who that could be but hoping McCabe does

I agree with this. I thought it was far too much for Crighton when he was a player, our only outfield coach and captain and it’s probably no coincidence that his form fell off a cliff around then. As much as the armband is more symbolic than anything these days, I think it’s good to share the responsibility a bit more. 11 minutes ago, FLDiamond said: Over on the RR thread… appears Easton had an excellent game and scored a worldy. Charlie Telfer seems the obvious replacement and while he’s not the same kind of player and nowhere near as much of a match winner, him and Frizzell might have more balance which could allow them both to shine a bit more.

Easton was kicking around the game (Dumbarton, Clyde, Forfar, Kelty) a long time before having the season he did with us. I’ll be interested to see how he gets on over a season in the championship and not peterhead. I don’t buy into this idea he’s some irreplaceable talent but hope he does well as I loved having him at airdrie.

You have got to think there is a reason he is at Raith, if he ayed every game like the other night he would be at a higher level, as been stated see how he does over a season in championship, and aye would love him at airdrie,

Always had the talent but I'm pretty sure he admitted that his attitude wasn't always the best and a few injuries didn't help either. He's must also be a stone lighter than when he played with Kelty in the Lowland a couple of years ago.

Easton is one, but Shankland and Nisbet have to remembered as well. And I’d also put McInroy in that category, there’s a reason he’s signed for a Premiership team and Easton hasn’t. I’m hopeful Frizzell can hit a similar level of performance this season which I think he’s capable of.However, it is very unlikely we’ll get a like for like replacement for Easton, purely because players like him are so rare these days at any level. People describe tough players not afraid of a hard challenge as throwbacks, but for me Easton is a throwback to a different generation of footballer. Very rare nowadays to see a player that plays the way he does, trying tricks, stepovers, nutmegs. I think there’s a reason it’s not seen as often now as it’s generally less effective than the style of the modern game, but when it works it works well and looks great. As I’ve said before I don’t think it’s fair on whatever midfielder we bring in to be considered “Easton’s replacement” because most likely it will be a very different player and if anything Frizzell will be more like Easton’s replacement and the new player would most likely take over Frizz’s role from last season.
Rossm25
There was a 10-15 minute spell on Tuesday where Frizz was utterly unplayable, very similar to Easton, with him playing further up the park adding more assists and Cammy providing more for the right side of the park we should be able to replace most of eastons goal involvements. Add to that Justin devenney (I'll never get the second name right) suddenly becoming a goal machine I think we will do OK....IF we sign another strong midfielder. Was interesting that in the extended Interview McCabe was the one to call out the week break gives us time for recruitment and not just recovery. I see the Old firm loaness seem to be starting to trickle out and I've a funny feeling we have a few irons in the fire in terms of getting some players in from them.

Aye should try and go for Celtic"s Owen Moffat someone like that would certainly replace Easton, never get a place in celtic starting eleven, that's the type of signing I would love to read, pen or no pen.
