Death toll now 93 and climbing…I’m honestly surprised it’s that low. That’s with searchers having only covered 3% of the devastated area with cadaver dogs and nearly 1,000 still missing. To put that in context, the entire islands population is just under 165,000.

The town of Lahaina was an artistic magnet, with an entire row of galleries and storefronts destroyed, along with some artists life’s work. The rebuilding will be very prolonged, as most supplies have to be shipped from the continental U.S. or other suppliers, and the amount needed will surpass the normal imports of building supplies for Hawaii, the State, for the next several years. Additionally, Maui is primarily a tourist and agricultural island, so lacks large port facilities to make importing supplies easy, even from Oahu.

Let's hope any rebuilding efforts are in good faith&not used as an excuse  for speculator types to monetise the catastrophe as happened with new orleans

Your hopes are already probably dashed, he wouldn’t be saying this if things weren’t already happening:

Also, the rebuilding costs and regulations will ensure the “regular people” will be squeezed out:

114 confirmed dead in Maui.

27 identified of the confirmed dead, and 850 missing. That would allow the death toll to possibly top 750.

Interestingly, the sirens were deemed to risky to use as they are closely identified with tsunami warnings and the thought was people might hear them and head for higher ground/into the fire danger. Similar issues in Texas, where they’ve been hammering the fact that the Civil Defence sirens are, as they have been referred to for years, “Tornado Sirens”, but are warning sirens. People are still confused, but there’s a concerted effort to change that in people’s minds.

I would have thought they could use the mobile phone emergency alerts.

Final death toll is going to be horrendous.

In other wild fire news scientists have published a report saying that the weather conditions for Canada's massive wild fires have been made twice as likely due to climate change.

Mobile phone alerts were apparently used. The complaint is the 400 or so siren warning system wasn’t. I don’t understand why the phone alerts haven’t been mentioned having been used before, but I suspect the use may have been rudimentary and/or ineffective.

I'll preface this by stating that I live alone, but make exceptions if other folk are over.

A few months back I started only flushing the toilet at the end of the day, with the exception of shites and the first pish of the day. Basically, I don't flush the toilet during the day after a pish (only after the first one of the day, because that's the most dehydrated one). I drink quite a lot of water during the day so most pishes are quite clear and not smelly.

It's an attempt to save water.

I also don't run the tap when brushing my teeth. I wet the (electric) toothbrush before applying paste (but not after) and, after brushing the lower teeth, run the tao quickly over the brush before turning it off and brushing the top teeth. Quick rinse of the brush after I'm done (but not a rinse of the mouth other than spitting out the toothpaste).

Whilst we're on the topic of toothpaste, the morning routine is mouthwash then brushing. Night routine is floss, mouthwash then brushing.

If its yellow, let it mellow. If its brown, send it down.

Not bad, but still think I prefer the original script.

I have no idea whether this will result in disaster or not. I don’t think you do either.
Only putting it up for insights from educated people on here.
Thank you for your input. Most valuable!

Nature in doing nature things shocker.

Future generations will look back with incredulity at both the arrogance of, and money spent at, trying to control the climate.
