I was in New Jersey four years ago next week and saw the birth of AEW on television. The concept looked great. Young in House talent being promoted by some great wrestlers.

Four years later, a 50 year old cripple waiting to happen signs.

Not a great look to be honest.

I disagree in this case - A 50 year old who looks to be in fantastic condition and proven numerous times in recent years that he can still go is a far better look than  seeing the likes of Taker, Goldberg and Austin being dragged out the retirement home in recent years for one-offs or short term feuds that are a hard watch and also add zero to the weekly product.

I don't watch AEW but Edge is very unlikely to be near any of the major titles so he'll do just fine. Also a good piece of business to bring in WWE fans who haven't yet jumped in.

As an aside there are a bunch of 50+ wrestlers that can go at a fairly high level namely Satoshi Kojima & Takashi Sugiura. Honorable mentions to Masaaki Mochizuki, Minoru Suzuki, Yuji Nagata & not far off 50 Jun Kasai still doing his thing.

Yes, not a great look signing one of the biggest stars in the business you have to say!

They’re not bringing guys in like Ken Anderson and letting them run over MJF. They’re there to help build the younger guys - just as Christian has done, as has Sting and (for the most part) Jericho. Seeing this as anything other than a great pickup is daft.

Edge is a massive pickup. The closest to a pure WWE guy they've had since they landed Jericho.

The only more WWE guy they could ever realistically get at this point would be Orton. It's all one moaning about older guys but for the most part, all veterans they've picked up (possibly aside from Jeff Hardy) who are still in ring condition have been an asset.

Christian, Jericho, Sting, Samoa Joe, Gunn, Danielson, Matt Hardy, even Jarrett has been alright! They are all serving a purpose and are part of the show rather than the focal point of it. Look at the amount of young talent these guys have helped get over so far.

For me the AEW product is just far better overall than WWE, as is their (albeit bloated) roster. I watch all three AEW shows almost every week since it’s inception. Prior to AEW starting, for probably 7 or 8 years I’d watch Raw or Smackdown maybe half a dozen times a year plus the Rumble and Wrestlemania and always find myself thinking that it was utter garbage. Although it’s far from flawless, AEW has made me really enjoy watching wrestling on a weekly basis again.

All that being said, and without any real foundation, there’s a part of me keeps thinking it’ll all go WCW eventually as long as WWE are the top dogs. Tony Khan seems to smart (and rich) on the face of it for that to happen but I often wonder if he’ll get bored of it all one day.

Maye I haven't watched a full wrestling show in years, possibly over 10. I just don't have the time nor interest but have kept an eye out for anything interesting happening and I'm a Rumble to Mania type.

Hopefully he'll be given freedom to have meaningful stories as he's as good as anyone at drawing you in, that's why I'm a massive fan of his.

Hopefully if they go Edge v Christian which I dunno, looks like it might be? They do it long term and properly.

If Tony Khan does this sensibly, we could see Edge in AEW have a great run.

If it's the same old Tony, and he just lets everyone do everything they've ever ewanted to do, then he'll most likely be seriously injured within the furst few months.

I'm really hoping for a long, drawn-out feud with Christian, something between Esdge and MJF and Starks. Eventually, I can see Edge and Christian in some sort of ladder match vs the Bucks too.

If Tony doesn't have him do unnecessary bumps and put him on the shelf for months on end, this could be good.

Edge coming in is definitely a big statement of intent from AEW.  In the same week that everyone makes a big deal out of the first AEW home-grown talent to move to WWE in Jade Cargill, getting Edge in is probably about as close as you could get to an equivalent short of them having some like Undertaker come in.  He can definitely still go, and if they manage him well - like they do with Sting - then there's no reason why he can't go on to have a few more years tying up his career nicely.  Seems like we'll get an initial feud with Christian, which makes sense, but it's going to take a big storyline leap from there to get Edge and Christian back together on the same page, given the latter's current hows-your-father gimmick. I think if it starts to come towards the end of both guy's careers though, having them reunite as faces for one last run would be a lovely way to go out.  Will say though, that shot at the end of the show with Edge, Sting and Darby Allin all in one shot was quite something.  Coming up to 4 years since the first Dynamite, if you'd gone back there and showed a fan that shot, he'd have assumed WWE 2K had brought in photorealistic graphics to universe mode.  Add to that a heel Christian opposite them with a title (had he even come out of retirement back then?  Possibly with TNA), just mental.

On the main event though, Christian looked more than a bit off the pace for a singles match.  That spot with the steps was fucking horrible, even more so when he had to try it for a second time after not being able to lift Darby.  Sickening landing.

Nyla Rose made it at least vaguely interesting since it was a break from the norm during Jade's TBS title run. Which was a low-level B Tier feud in the Women's Division. Not the main event of a future PPV in expectations.

I doubt the belt will be in Jay's possesion too long to be much of an angle. I mean, they dropped any mystery over his masked man beatdown in record time!

Taking MJF and Max Caster's bromance to the TV screen I can see leading to MJF & The Acclaimed v. Bullet Club Gold on Collision. Since that kind of 8-man tag fits what we often see from that show's format.

It's all just Coked Up Khan having a laugh, but it would be quite amusing if there was a Zuckerberg/Musk style situation between Khan and either one of Michaels or HHH.  I think even in the era of his heart being completely fucked, he'd still kick the absolute f**k out of that VL.

But seriously, all this has come out of nowhere, NXT moves to a Tuesday for one week and everyone loses their shit.  Looking forward to it.

That was an excellent show. Danielson vs Swerve was great and it's easily a match they can go back to at any time, it might even end up being Danielson's retirement feud next year. Page vs White was another top match and I'm glad that Hobbs finally seems to have the rocket strapped to him. I'm not so keen on Juice seemingly committing a hate crime though.
