22nd June - TB v Kí (Tvøroyrar Bóltfelag v Klaksvíkar Ítróttarfelag). Mid table TB knock Kí off the top of the league with a 1-0 win in front of an 800 crowd. A 73rd minute header from Teitur Olsen sees off the league leaders who then have a man sent off.

Kí have got through two rounds of the Europa League qualifiers and will now face Luzern.

TB are the pride of the southern island Suðuroy which is two hours sail from Tórshavn. This was Suðuroy's gala weekend with rowing contests, dances etc, and the game kicked off at 1830 on Saturday night. KÍ would have sailed on the 10am ferry and returned on the 10pm. After reaching Tórshavn at midnight they would still have a drive of well over an hour and then through the tunnel back to Klaksvík in the north.

Women's match at the Gundadalur in Tórshavn. HB Kvinnur (Havnar Bóltfelag Women) v EBS/Skála. No 10 is Jónva Hentze the pocket rocket for HB who looks mightily pissed off as EBS/Skála equalise and go on to win 3-1. You can see that big city rivals HB and B36 have a stand each.

Sorry if someone has already asked you but how long are you there for?

Is it a fitba ground hopping tour?

No I went in 2016 for a long weekend, saw 4 games,  and I'm just back from a week with the missus, when I managed to sneak in another 2. Apart from that, just took loads of photos and talked to plenty of folk.

Right, Fuglafjørður. A small town of 1500 but massive in terms of fish processing and marine services and so on. And the team íF who play at the Fløtugerði which is sensational.

Here's a batch of pics from a derby with Víkingur (see OP)  in 2016 which ended up 1-3.

Right. On to Toftir, the scene of Berti's worst nightmare. Any Scotland internationals, to my knowledge, have been played here rather than Tórshavn. This is where Hibs played NSÍ Runavík last season, rather than at their own ground 3 miles away, so here's a chance for the Hibees to see it minus the fog.

I was at a game where doomed B68 Toftir played B36 Tórshavn and lost 1-0. It's about an hour's drive north of the capital, although, as discussed on this thread, there's a tunnel in the making, which will cut that to about 20 minutes.

No 5 is Odmar Færø who played for Keith as a young lad. He returned to Scotland and was with Forfar and Banks o'Dee.

Loved reading this thread and seeing all the pics as the Faroes have always intrigued me. Mad how such a tiny outpost with a small population and challenges around travel and weather can organise a league so efficiently and manage to compete at all internationally and in European games (relatively speaking).

Mantis, why do they sometimes play internationals at Toftir rather than the main national stadium at Torshavn? Do they feel it's a leveller in terms of remote location and the weather etc or is it a better facility?

I was told it's tactical. The Tórsvøllur is a proper stadium although it's getting improvements right now to the west side. My experience is that Toftir is less foggy but the hibs fans might disagree 😉

If you think the league is well run, you should see the website at http://www.faroesoccer.com which has astonishing detail. You can usually figure it out although it's in Faroese.

When it comes to wifi, contactless etc the Faroes and Iceland are years ahead of us. We were there for a full week in June and only took £150 in cash. First time I was in Iceland was referendum week in 2014 (don't worry I used a proxy vote) and even then hardly anybody used cash. All the petrol stations were 24 hour with card payments, unmanned at night. Makes you dream what Scotland could potentially be. I'll try and keep to the football though 🤣

Great site. Just about managed to figure some of it out [emoji38]. Have been to Iceland but didnt get to any games. Would love to go to the Faroes but dont think I could convince the Mrs to go north for a holiday again 🤣.

Do the Faroese tend to follow foreign sides too i.e. the big Danish or English sides etc? And what's the standard like of the league like? League 1/2 here?

I read a book about the Faroes a few years back but cant remember the name, am sure it was about Brazilians etc living in the Faroes and marrying locals etc. That's prob why I am intrigued!

I could prob Google all this but it's better hearing from first hand experience.

I don’t think Danish football figures at all. I had seen a blog from an English bloke saying it saddened him to see EPL shirts and merch everywhere but I didn’t really notice that at all. But I’ve had a few conversations with folk who really know their EPL, and often their Scottish Premiership too.

i would say you’re probably right about Lge 1/2. I always find these things a bit of a lottery to judge. Any games I’ve been at, it’s typical of a lot of lower league stuff, i.e they are well drilled, keep their shape and possession is important. But there never seem to be any flair players willing to take a risk and take people on, although that’s probably down to coaching too. All played on plastic pitches too.

It’s summer football too, which probably exaggerates the results in the UEFA games. Last season Hibs played Runavik and it was 6-1 at Easter Road, with Runavik having 10 men for an hour, then 6-4 Hibs away. For Champions League rankings, they’re ranked 51, just behind Wales, but above Gibraltar, San Marino, Andorra and Kosovo. These 4 have to play the preliminary round.

This season, they had 3 in the Europa League qualifiers, and champions HB in the Champions league qualifiers before dropping into the Europa.

Aggregate scores 2019/20:

Champions Lge 1Q: HB 2-5 HJK Helsinki

Europa 1Q: Runavik 0-2  Ballymena . KI 9-1 Tre Fiori

Europa 2Q: KI 1-1 FK Riteriai (KI pens). B36 2-5 Crusaders.

Europa 3Q: KI 0-2 Luzern. HB 2-3 Linfield.

Not the Faroes this time, but Iceland, home of ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar. Can't remember if I've posted this one somewhere before, but who cares, I fucking love this shot 🤣
