Game 31 - May 2076

Spoiler

7DLCoKt.png

Two penalties later and we're champions.

Definitely deserved to win the game, although we weren't very clinical, so it took a couple of penalties but that's alright with me. Their late goal gave me a bit of a scare but we saw it through in the end.

Absolutely fucking delighted.

Was a bit tough, but we're over the line with a couple of games to spare.

Now to secure the double.

I've covered the first four, but getting a guard of honour from Sarajevo and then beating them on their own patch was delicious. Took the lead in the 90th minute against Sloboda and still didn't win, oh well.

dMjy197.png

We've kind of pished the league in the end.

Delightful.

Was one of the tougher ones we've had, but I've enjoyed it. Three cups and a league title is no bad, and we had some wonderful European runs which I wasn't expecting yet in the save. Up next: Slovenia.

Oh, and on a final note - f**k Sarajevo.

I'm off to Donegal and Finn Harps. They're currently slumming it in the second tier, and have been there for a couple of years and have never been more than a yo-yo side throughout the save. There's only one side in the top flight who haven't won the title before, and they're very quickly heading back down, so I'll need to start in this division anyway.

It's a fair old step down from Kozara - Bosnia's the 9th ranked league in Europe, while Ireland is 33rd. Wouldn't expect any European runs here, but I still need to get it ticked off. Ireland is currently dominated by our old friends Dundalk...

uj4XWVV.png

We're sitting sixth, which would get us a playoff spot, with 11 games left. We're also in the League Cup semi finals.

Anyway, let's go Harps.

Meet the Team

4 stars is leading player for League of Ireland First Division, 3 stars is decent player for same

s6nNo23.png

McLoughlin is a good player for this level, should be more than capable. He only had two goals and two assists in his 12 games so far, but a fairly high average rating suggests that he must do other bits of the game well.

d4VGe8e.png

Cullen - Fagan - Nevin should be a decent starting option here. Need a lot more depth though.

G9Mif5Y.png

Keogh is good, and I'll just need to deal with having a fairly poor player stood next to him for the time being. First area that I really need to look at so far.

9jqvfE2.png

Fairly happy here. No world beaters obviously, but the starting back four looks relatively solid for this level.

KmwaSYb.png

And my goalkeepers are alright enough, could probably do with better but they're fine for now.

I wasn't in charge for the Drogheda game, so it's an 100% record for me so far. We looked pretty decent against UCD, who are one of the league's better sides so that's a good sign.

t5wT1pn.png

Not much change from before, but we've got a decent lead over sixth in the playoff spots.

July 2076

Brought in a couple of players in the transfer window this month. Dino Jahic is a Bosnian centre half/right back, and former Sarajevo youth. He's pretty solid all round, and plenty of potential given he's only 19. I would expect that he'll leave for better things at some point.

Spoiler

cVUOscb.png

My other signing was central midfielder Ronan Murphy. He's good on the ball, not great off it but will do. Certainly good enough if we're looking to get out this division, and can probably do ok when we're trying to establish ourselves in the top flight.

Spoiler

APgS9av.png

Anyway, the first game went really well, although we were playing the worst side in the league. The Bohemians game was a fucking horrorshow though. 3-0 down within 9 minutes, 4-0 by half time and they missed a penalty which would have made it 5-1 at the end. Dreadful. Was their first win in 16 games as well.

Threw away three points in the last minute against Cobh, should have had the game out of sight and then should have won straight from the kick off as well, but didn't take the chances.

qDp4vQU.png

We're now 7 points ahead of Cobh, so looking good for a playoff spot. I don't think we'll do anything with it though.

The world's number one ranked side, with two Ballon D'Or winners in their side.

I'm incredibly tempted.

  • World's number one side - check
  • Two of the best players on the planet - naturally
  • World Cup winning manager - f**k yes

Give him a couple of grand a week.

Right, let's have a wee look at some of the boys I'll be managing for Argentina.

I said I had two Ballon D'Or winners in my side, so let's have a look at them first. Mathias Barone is getting on a bit, and he's probably past his best, but those are still some outstanding attributes.

Spoiler

Dc4eyvT.png

Gonzalo Conedera has a Ballon D'Or and three World Player of the Years to his name, and is the main man at Roma - who are now a side who've won eight of the last ten Serie A's and have won three Champions League's in a row. So aye, he's pretty decent.

Spoiler

f0D2yPs.png

Bruno Canete is only 21 and looks like he'll be an absolutely ridiculous player when he hits his prime.

Spoiler

0NA0CSg.png

As always seems to be the case with Argentina sides, it's a bit weaker at the back but we still have some excellent defenders, like Javier Vejar who is really good on the ball for a centre half.

Spoiler

1K2gQ19.png

That's just a flavour of it. The one thing I'll say is that my squad is certainly an aging one, so I'll need to look to bring through some younger players, but I think I should be able to achieve something with this lot.

August 2076

We were dumped out of both cup competitions by Dundalk, but given that they're on their way to a sixth title in a row, and we're a midtable second tier side, there's no shame in that. Didn't get pumped in either game as well, so that's a positive.

And then we beat top of the table Longford in the league, so a decent month all in I'd say.

55w9ZGy.png

We should be able to secure a playoff spot reasonably comfortably from here.

As I say, I don't think we'll do much with it.

September 2076

Two good games, and one dreadful one. We were helped out by a fairly early red card in the Shamrock Rovers reserves match, but we absolutely blew Bray Wanderers away - 4-0 did not flatter us.

Cabinteely are dross, and losing that one was totally unacceptable.

XGMr9IF.png

But we're only a point off securing a playoff spot, so that's the main thing.

Argentina

bxNQGtC.png

We should have won both of these games fairly comfortably, but we weren't taking the chances we created. Oh well, four points from my first two games isn't bad.

KjJq1Wu.png

South American qualifying should be straightforward for us.

October 2076

6hyoGxg.png

We got the job done pretty comfortably, the loss to U.C.D. wasn't ideal but we played fine. Other two games were good stuff, definitely deserved winners.

GjnMSfG.png

And into the playoff we go...

j58QW4S.png

Two legged effort. Beat them 4-0 the last time we played, but who knows what'll happen here.

We'll need to win this, and then beat the winner of UCD V Drogheda to get a chance at the second bottom side in the top flight - which will be Athlone Town.

We'll need a bit of luck, but here we go.

Argentina

E1XwjeQ.png

That'll do.

We could have had another few goals against Venezuela, but these things happen.

3NHSFNe.png

Eight games of qualifying still to go, and we're already 16 points ahead.

Will be job done shortly.

Irish First Division Promotion Playoff - Semi Final - November 2076

Spoiler

We had the only chances of the match, but didn't take them.

We should be in a position to beat them in the second leg though, and get through.

Spoiler

Game was over within eight minutes, lovely stuff. We were a lot better than them, and spent most of the final hour barely bothering to get out of first gear. A great win.

Our promotion hopes stay alive for another round...

They beat us incredibly comfortably last time out.

UCD are one of my customers in work as the Uni orders gene sequencers from us, so I regularly have to call them up to chase payments.

I hope you beat the fuckers, that'll teach them to get me paid within invoice terms.
