NEW DOMESTIC NON-LEAGUE NATIONAL TROPHY

Recommended Posts

NEW DOMESTIC NON LEAGUE NATIONAL TROPHY.

I know we have the Scottish Junior Cup for junior teams. But what about a new national domestic cup for non league sides, and junior sides,

A national non league trophy for all Scottish non league sides.

The early rounds could be regional.

Leading to the later stages being national.

Then a final either one leg or two legged,

We could have teams from the Junior set up, plus the Highland League, the Lowland League, the East of Scotland Football League, the South of Scotland Football League, the West of Scotland Football League, and the North Caledonian League.

It would be fun.

There are some massive teams in the non-league system of Scotland, so it could have great potential.

Even more controversial would be to have non junior teams invited into the Scottish Junior Cup.

Could we make the Scottish Junior Cup open to all non-league sides in Scotland?

The existing junior cup could become this and also helps ensure the top junior teams that joined the senior pyramid can continue to participate and not have any fixture clash. Thinking a bit outside the box have a finals day in March with this final and challenge cup final played in the same ground back to back with cheap tickets really showcase that non top flight football can attract a good crowd.

Definitely all for this.

As a supporter of a team who has moved over from the Juniors I would love a national competition to compete in(that we would have a chance of going far in or even winning)

As another poster says it will probably happen once the rest of the Juniors from the East and North eventually join us.

An idea would be to use 4 regional competitions as feeders to this competitions

Highland (Highland, North Caledonian & North Juniors)

West (All West of Scotland League clubs & Lowland West Clubs)

South (South of Scotland League, Lowland South Clubs)

East  (All East Scotland League & Junior League clubs)

The Semi finalists of each region (South may be weaker) go into the last 16. Then they play until the final

Good idea, but by far the most important question for the authorities will be how will the Colts fit into this?

This is an excellent idea. The model has already been written in the shape of the FA Trophy and the FA Vase in England. Both competitions are hugely popular with clubs and supporters and to replicate either would, in my view, be the way to go. It would work well.
