It’s because of money. You wouldn’t take Simon Murray at Ayr? Because he's scored about a dozen goals in the group games of the league cup against teams like Cowdenbeath.

He could very easily have had a club in the top two tiers in 2020 when he signed for Queen's Park, but their am$ition obviously won him over which is why he ended up in the 4th tier. The fact he hasn't done hugely well since going there does not detract from the fact that they were signing a bunch of Championship level players in League 2 because they were trying to buy their way through the leagues. They signed guys who were on the way out of full time football, Guys like Peter Grant jr, Bob McHugh, Grant Gillespie, Louis Longridge. By a bunch do you mean Simon Murray? A 29 year old who has regressed as a footballer since a brief peak 8 years ago? If you think these guys are Championship level then I can only assume you had a hand in Tommy Wrights transfer policy.
oneteaminglasgow
Almost all of those players could get a gig at a Championship club if they wanted to. Queens Park are, quite clearly, bringing guys who could play at a higher level to buy their way through the leagues - the fact they’re making an arse of it doesn’t change that. As a quick aside, I really, really hope they go bust. Edited January 2, 2022 by oneteaminglasgow

This reminds me of the guy who would come on to the Ayr thread every time Kilmarnock signed a player last summer to post "Ye ragin yet?".

Sortmeout
It is worth remembering that we are still 3rd in the league so I would guess that Tommy Wright has signed a full squad of Championship level players. Either that or you guys think TW is some sort of tactical genius who has dragged these players up to that position?

Most are lucky to be still full time at Queens Park. Most of the players have played for failed Morton and Falkirk teams. Grant Gillespie was one of the worst players Mark Kerr signed. Simply Being full time is enough to get you to top 4 in league 1. Simon Murray had scored 19 goals in 5 years before joining Queens Park, he's barely set the world on fire since he joined them and hasn't been linked with any clubs higher up. They are spending money on a new stadium prioritising hospitality and hiring smart, respected people in the game. Gretna pumped millions getting from A to B as quickly as possible without building anything secure. I think you'll find that Gretna were building an 'eco-stadium' on the Solway Firth (6,000 seats), as part of their equally ridiculous vanity project. Building progress on which has gone about as well as QP's claims for Lesser Hampden, or indeed the Ibrox Supercasino that Rangers (also dead) were going to build. The only difference between Queen's Park and Gretna is that one has a professional and insider-job PR wing churning out utter drivel about the sustainability of 'the project'. Mileson by contrast was quite happy to thumb his nose at reality and accept that he was doing it for his own journey of self-aggrandisement and sporting success. The actual methods are no different though.

Bob McHugh is quite clearly a lower Championship level player and his final season before dropping down to 'the project' was in fact the most productive (12 goals from 27 appearances). You do not have to be fucking Mbappe to still be playing a couple of dung levels below for purely mercenary reasons.

I said they didn't sign anyone above the lower end of the Championship level, where as Gretna signed players from the Premier. You have just confirmed that Bob McHugh was a lower end Championship player when he dropped down. Thanks for validating my argument. -

Erm no, you actually said that they "signed guys who were on the way out of full time football". McHugh wasn't. You further claimed that: Quote If you think these guys are Championship level then I can only assume you had a hand in Tommy Wrights transfer policy. McHugh was Championship quality which you have just admitted, in your desperate attempt to shift the goalposts. A comprehensive exercise in fail from yourself then. -
D'Jaffo
Can’t believe we’re discussing Bob McHugh when the Super still need a manager. Least we know it’s not Martin Canning but it’s also not Stephen McManus.

Your misty-eyed view of Bob McHugh is clouding your common sense. To think that he is an outlandish signing for a full time team, that they are spending a fortune on in a bid to be mediocre is a strange hill to die on.
itzdrk
Bob McShug is rubbish. Cups excluded 54 goals in 235 games. Majority of his career he is scoring less than 5 a season, the season referenced when he scored 12 he got 8 in the league and was basically the golden season of his career, he went to league two and had pretty much the same hit rate with 7 but against league two defences. Toilet. Edited January 3, 2022 by itzdrk

Toilet. He wasn't my favourite player but it doesn't change the fact he's Championship quality. Sadly, as rubbish as I thought he was, he'd still get a gig at lower half Championship side. Along with a lot of other players in that squad. To compare them to Gretna is fair. The main difference between them and Gretna in the player aspect is that Gretna brought in quality players from the divisions above. QP have brought in Championship standard players. Either way QP will be flinging money at it and I'd put good money on it that the QP players are earning more than any side in the bottom half of the Championship (Dunfermline probably the exception).
