It was a balloon . There are literally Chinese satellites doing what the US claimed the balloon was doing, just as there are American satellites doing the same thing above China. There was barely even any way of controlling the balloon, it was just floating in the wind… as balloons usually do.
ICTChris
The US Air Force have said that the collision seems to have been due to pilot error, which makes sense. I’m not the Red Baron when it comes to air combat but ramming drones with fighter jets seems to be a little bit the wrong side of risky.

Soaking it in jet fuel and then deliberately crunching into it sounds like a recipe for a joint exit.

Very large city in a country with a lot of internal flights so doubt it's anything massively out of the ordinary.

Except the balloon was capable of intercepting communications satellites cannot intercept due to signal strength and propagation. Remarkable, if it was just floating free, then that it has engines, and was over the most sensitive cluster of U.S. bases in the country, eh? -

Agreed, and since Leningrad St. Petersburg is located in the northwest of the country, a line of inbounds from the southeast is to be expected. I would have expected more flights, but the sanctions are probably hitting aviation pretty hard.

Anyway, Blinken cancelling a trip to China because of it is very funny.

As I note, they overflew missile and bomber bases…tell me again how ineffective those motors are, since the jet stream was at a cross angle to the course flown. -

US intelligence seemed to know the flight path of this balloon was supposed to be over Guam and Hawaii, despite the fact it never went near either (and they even admitted it was blown off course). It’s all very convient that all of these agencies that have a vested interest in stirring up tensions with China are all saying it was definitely a spy balloon, and all media are using them as a source. Also, if you want to talk about spying and interfering around another countries territory then look no further than the actions of the US in the South China Sea. It may well have been a spy balloon, but the main point is that it’s not any more egregious than what the US does.

So U.S. flights over International Waters are the same as a Chinese overflight of the U.S. mainland?

I don’t know enough about it to know if China has claimed that. They certainly have more right to claim at least some of it as their territory than the US has to infringe upon it. 1 minute ago, TxRover said: So U.S. flights over International Waters are the same as a Chinese overflight of the U.S. mainland? China has claimed nearly the whole South China Sea, and International Courts have ruled against that claim, multiple times, most recently in favor of the Philippines. It is over International Waters though.

Maybe you should ask what Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam think about the issue.
