Russian invasion of Ukraine

NATO are officially Putin apologists.

Many Ukrainians themselves might meet that standard by some folk's very elastic definition. Vox Ukraine is a think tank of mostly US-based Ukrainian economists. They conducted this poll recently:

Which found the following among the polled:

Nobody from the Russia-occupied territories was polled. You see in the phrasing of the questions that double negatives are often used which is awkward for us to read but supposedly that's common phrasing in Ukrainian.

As Vox Ukraine point out, Russian state access to the Ukrainian "information space" had been very high until recently and almost all Ukrainians understand Russian language. There's also that socio-economic factors hugely come into which beliefs folk hold as the authors explain in detail. Big regional differences on some questions were observed, big generational differences sometimes too.

So the results of that poll show not every Ukrainian thinks alike. This is all just for discussion in the abstract, though. When it comes to actual policy, the elected government in Kyiv must be taken as representative of Ukrainians. Therefore, what they say is always what foreign entities should go with.

Early in the war there was quite a lot of chat about Russian cyber-attacks, but that went quiet.

I notce there's been quite a lot of stuff happening recently - leaking Norn Ireland police details, the entire Voter's Roll being hacked, Bank of Ireland ATMs spewing out cash. Discord have been hacked and shut down. Coincidence?

It was because of a FoI request, apparently.

The Washington Post describe the counteroffensive as "spluttering" and I've read other outlets using words like "slow" and "disappointing". Yet if the picture presented in the above screenshots is correct then a choice was taken that resulted in less dead Ukrainians. In my book, that's a win. Further, territorial progress is still being made:

Regarding this critical reaction from some quarters to the counteroffensive, I agree with Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba:

Remember that tanker that was hit by a drone?

Answer is in the CC, it was the engine room hit. As we saw on the strike video, the attacking drone passed close by to identify the vessel and then deliberately struck the machinery spaces. Since a tanker has massive buoyancy potential in its tanks, venting the engine room to the sea wouldn’t necessarily sink if the crew were competent. I’d love to see pictures of the Olenogorsky Gornyak too.

According to Ru MOD a Tu-22M was "damaged" today by a drone.

NATO reporting name 'Backfire' funnily enough.

Couldn't they have been more specific on the nature of the damage? Hard to tell from that far back
