Going to go against fellow Dons fans here and admit Ferguson dived for the penalty. There was contact but it was clearly not enough to bring him down so he threw himself to the ground and that’s a dive as far as I am concerned. It was the same with United’s penalty on Saturday. Player clearly exaggerated the contact. We did however get a perfectly good goal chopped off. As others have said could not see at the game why it was ruled out and am none the wiser after seeing the highlights.

We were rotten and got exactly what we deserved from the game last night. The Glass experiment has set us back a fair way. If it were not for Dundee and St Johnstone being so pish I would have us as nailed on for relegation.

Probably a wider debate as I thought the United boy ‘dived’ on Saturday but at the same time it was a definite penalty as bates is pulling his shirt needlessly as he was going nowhere.

I completely agree with you, so why was your manager concentrating on asking the authorities to go after one of the opposition players who had his foot kicked in the box, rather than praising his players for their domination of the game in his after match interview? Strange behaviour.

I think Neilson's problem is with Steven McLean rather than Lewis Ferguson. He's more trying to highlight McLean's ineptness.

Ferguson was nicked but it wasn't enough to put him down, he dived. Whether that's a penalty or not is debatable. "There was contact" is often used to justify penalties but it's a daft statement, there's contact all over the pitch all the time.

I would have been shouting for a penalty if it was the other way round.

He did actually say that he didn’t blame the referee, he said it was all on the player for cheating and he “expects it to be looked at”. So doesn’t appear to be after Steven McLean.

Ferguson dived though. If there was any contact (I’m far from convinced there was) then it wasn’t enough to cause him to throw himself to the ground with his limbs outstretched. We have just come out of a poor run ourselves and we were dominating that game through quick attacking football. Ferguson diving to cheat a penalty could have swung the game in Aberdeen’s favour. Bear in mind Neilson was a rightback by trade, he will have been in the receiving end of those sort of decisions plenty times. I don’t blame him for being angry about it.

It was almost exactly the same as happened to us on Saturday. Harkes for United gets the merest of tugs on his shirt and throws himself over. Penalty rightly given and no moaning from Aberdeen. Ferguson gets the merest kick on his foot, which you would have to be blind not to see in the replays, throws himself over. Penalty rightly given and Robbie Neilson spends his after match interview moaning about it.

I didn't see that.

I'm surprised to hear he's not blaming McLean as he has had a few run ins with McLean in the past and i presumed this was a continuation of that.

I have literally just watched the highlights for the first time just now. Atkinson puts his foot in to try and get the ball but Ferguson has already moved it forward. Atkinson pulls his foot back from the challenge but before he does there is the slightest toe to toe. The reason it didn't look as though there was any contact, was because Ferguson didn't react until after the contact had been made and Atkinson's foot was no longer in contact with his. They went toe to toe, and then crucially, half a second later Ferguson threw himself to the deck. It is a dive and Neilson is within his rights to highlight the fact. It could have swung the game in favour of Aberdeen.

After being sent to the stand for criticising referees he's clearly a reformed character who has learnt his lesson and is backing McLean

The disciplinary system works

Baningime and Boyce wouldn't make it into an AFC team ahead of Brown and Watkins or Ramirez. Strange even trying to even suggest otherwise. I'm sure league table will show conclusively in May for any doubters.

Running out of steam after the first quarter of a season and found out after the "surprise package" bit has worn off. Always the same story with their scattergun signing policy and collection of misfits they collect.

Gordon makes that team look a lot better than it is. Could have been 5 for AFC** not in top gear yet. Best keeper in league.

Just remembered this post. Superb stuff.

I find it quite interesting that the Hearts fans and manager seem to be upset about a penalty that may or may not have been a penalty that had absolutely zero influence on the final outcome of the game, while conveniently ignoring the decision to chalk off what appeared a perfectly good goal that would've put Aberdeen 1-0 up. Don't get me wrong, from what I saw, we got battered last night and deserved nothing from the game, however, it is not out with the realms of possibility to say that could be a very different game if McLean awards that goal.

:D

I was trying to be charitable... 🤷‍♂️

But no, seriously, these things can turn on one incident that gives the other team a foothold, and the confidence of the other is shaken.
