The Queen of the South thread

The thing St Mirren have in their favour is the parachute payment. So they can add £500k to their budget right away.

Not saying it guarantees they will finish above us, but it gives them a good start.

So true and a very good point it will certainly enable them to entice players who may have a couple of clubs to choose from.

Forfar have confirmed that dale hilson has joined queens on their Facebook page

From their Facebook page

"Dale Hilson who has been such an integral part of the Station Park side over the past few seasons, originally on loan and latterly as a signed player has signed for Queen of the South.

Dale had never hidden his ambition to return to full time football and he now has that opportunity with the Palmerston Park club."

Happy with this signing and happy that we have a manager who clearly sees youth/young players as the way forward :)

Me aswell. Seems we were lacking abit of pace in attacking areas with Reilly, Carmichael and the attacking full back Holt leaving, so this addresses that to a certain extent. By all accounts Higgins is a speed merchant but I suspect him and Smith will be eased in slowly as impact subs

Dale Hilson is a bit on the small side at 1.65m and has only ever scored two goal in his career. Hopefully he can justify playing at a higher level by making goal scoring opportunities for his new team mates.

Eh? He was well into double figures last year for a start.

Rather liking Fowler's strategy of signing hungry young players on the way up rather than ageing journeymen on the way down. I have a feeling that Fowler has done his homework, is assembling a vibrant young team and is firmly en route to establishing himself as one of the most promising young managers in the Scottish game.

The signs are certainly promising.

Considering he started last season as a signed player with minimal coaching experience, and ended it a very successful manager carrying out the vast majority of duties himself, he has done incredibly well. Hopefully the loss of key players will be offset by him being a year more experienced and having Skelton alongside him to share the burden. The style of football he has us playing, and the ease that we have been able to alternate between different system flawlessly, are probably the biggest strings to his bow.

My biggest concern going into the new season is that he will follow the path of his predecessors and jump ship to the first Premiership job that becomes available. The fact Kilmarnock are very strong candidates to be looking for a manager early doors only adds to this concern.
