Bo'ness United 2023/24

Rant time.......apologies if it's a rambling mess ......

Having only 2 centre half's on the books bites you on the bum when one of them (Lewis McArthur) is off on his holidays. I have predicted this would happen.

Big cup game next week so today was a chance for the back 3 of Musa, Hawkeye and Macaulay to play together and sharpen their communication..... but oh no says Hunter let's play the back up keeper.

I think 3 of the goals the back up keeper conceded were unstoppable.  He was at fault with one goal but to be honest the 2 centrehalfs could have dealt with it better.

Porteous played like a hungover sloth up front.   More energy in a lady fart.

Mooney, JJ, Tommo and Ward were rank rotten today.

Darvel  will have a field day next Saturday if we repeat that level of incompetence and effort.

Darvel are having a 'mare today as well though by the looks of things:

Hardly having a mare😂

Darvel are Premier League status, whereas Gretna 2008 are In a league above.Tranent showed in 2021-22 that Darvel are not invincible and Darvel didn’t win the West of Scotland Premier League last year either. Just now they sit 4th in the league. So, give Gretna 3008 the praise they rightly deserve today, as opposed to bowing down to Darvel.

Have to assume you are steaming and a-rolling after a post like that. Higher league status doesn't mean anything like as much as it normally would when it was obtained by application rather than promotion and the team in question have already conceded 53 goals after 11 league games.

Sorry Mr Knowitall, but not steaming! What do you think gives teams in WoS and EoS (or you) the right to think they only need to turn up on the day of a cup tie and a win is guaranteed?

Granted, in the last few years, the team that finishes bottom of the Lowland League has not faired well in the EoS PremierLeague the following year. However that doesn’t mean that all LL teams should be considered as cannon fodder on a one-of cup tie? Yes, clubs in WoS/EoS aspire to beat Lowland League teams whenever they meet, but wins should not be thought of as guaranteed.

Swapping keepers and having the captain away on holiday with no experienced cover at centre back does tend to point to this game being taken slightly for granted. Wonder if Darvel were doing a bit of squad rotation because whatever the guy who needs to slow his engine down is claiming above there is every reason to think that Darvel should have been able to beat Gretna today,

Our Centrehalf situation is poor.  We started the season with 2 players who can play the position (Hawkins and McArthur).     With any injuries or absences we are now forced into playing the best left back in the Lowland League (my opinion) Keir Macauley as a centrehalf.

In Stuart Hunters possible defence when he took over the reins at the club there were a lot of players signed by the previous management team so maybe the money to buy the next "Big Hunts" had run out.

It's a poor state of affairs.

Bad day at the office yesterday, impossible to pick a man off the match for all the wrong reasons. Only one side looked like they wanted to win, and they did. Bo’ness didn’t look like winning from the off. I know they were not the “first team”, but they didn’t look like they had met each other before never mind played together. They didn’t attack quick enough, allowing Cumbernauld to get back every time. The number of crosses, and good crosses at that, that Cumbernauld got in it was inevitable that they were going to score, and only poor finishing kept the score down.

Only  glimmer of hope at the moment is it’s the same squad that started the season. If we can get back to that then things will improve.

If teams turn up for a game and are not really "up for it" they tend to lose.  For me that's the major factor in the BU's defeat today.

We can only hope that today is a low point and the BU's show bouncebackability for the next game.

What also did BU no favours was the delay/pissing about inside or whatever they were doing at half time.

Cumbernauld Utd were back out on the pitch warming up for the best part of 5 minutes before BU returned to the field. No surprise then that from the moment the whistle blew to start the second half, BU were immediately on the back foot and looked miles off it.
