Match Report from Lochar Twitter

A disappointing start to our League Cup group section after a 3-1 defeat at home to @LanarkUTD20s @benwall04 had put the lads in front before the visitors went 2-1 up at the break. After the sending off of @harveycraig16 on 60 minutes, Lanark scored late on to seal the win.

I think that sums up the mood in the Lochar Camp.

From Lochar 20's Twitter.

Lochar went down to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of @Rovers20s tonight at a packed NWCC. An even first half saw the score level at 1-1 but a poor second half from Thistle saw Threave capitalise to earn the win.
Lochar goals coming from good finishes from @CiaranPetrie.

And from the Threave perspective a more upbeat photo.

From Threave 20's FB

Lochar U20’s 2
Threave Rovers U20’s 5

Declan Rogerson scored an early goal to put us into a 1-0 lead before a great strike from the Lochar left winger made it 1-1 before half time. 2nd half goals from a Luca Rinaldi double, Harry Officer and another from Declan Rogerson sealed a great 5-2 win. 16 year old Craig Porteous from the U17s coming on at half time and playing a massive part in the 2nd half, showing the pathway is there for the younger boys stepping up too.

Was great to see a big crowd there to support two local clubs trying to help the youths make the step up into adults football.

Personally as a youth coach for many years looking forward to seeing Threave's 2 home games down the road at Meadow shortly.

League for both starts on Fri 15th Sept. great to see local clubs involved in the West Development setup. Will improve these youngsters playing new and different players week after week.

It was an away victory for the lads tonight as they came away from @LanarkUTD20s with a 2-1 win. A first half goal from @CiaranPetrie was cancelled out before @benwall04 struck the winner for Thistle.

What a lift for the youngsters after 2 defeats to register their first win of the season. Really looking forward to next week's match up between Lochar and Threave. Great night for the boys enjoy.

Hopefully we'll have a team in the knockout stages of the Player Data League Cup.

Result from Meadow Park

Threave 20's 3 - 2 Lochar 20's.

Great to see a healthy turnout for the first competitive home game for the Threave Youngsters around the 200 mark I reckon.

Threave went in 2 up at the break after 2 very well conceived goals in a game they quickly gained control of.

For most of the 2nd half Threave were dominant and at 3 up the usual raft of substitutions were made causing Threave to lost their shape and control of the match. Lochar managed to pull 2 goals back near the death to make the scoreline look closer than the game actually was.

Threave were physically stronger in all areas of the game to Lochar. In 6 & 8 they had 2 midfield players with good technical ability and was only after both were replaced that Lochar gained any foothold in midfield.

Last game sees Threave entertain Lanark in a winner takes all showdown next Friday at Meadow Park

Both 9's impressed for different reasons. The Threave 9 was happy to drop into midfield allowing runners from there and wider to get in behind the Lochar rearguard, just needs to increase his physicality to improve in the role.

The Lochar 9 never stopped working the Threave back 4 even at 3 down. Not as technically gifted as Threave's 9, ut both showed good match intelligence in how they led the line and in bringing those around them into the play.

An excellent first look at the 2 teams. Both will only improve individually and collectively as the season progresses with the exposure to different teams from around the country. Well done both clubs in committing to the West Development Programme, it can only help the youngsters in their progress into senior football.

From Lochar 20's X.

"The lads went down 3-2 away at Castle Douglas against the locals @Rovers20s . Threave had found themselves 3-0 up before Lochar fought back with 2 goals in the final 15 minutes. Goals coming from @benwall04 and an OG."

Know they lost the game but it's about the development of the boys that's important. Report should be focusing on the positives from the game, as a youth coach was always taught to be positive around the boys. Don't criticise teach.

An other slightly downbeat report from Threave.

"Goals from Connor Whalen, Charlie Cantlie and Harry Officer put us into a deserved 3 nil lead before Lochar fought back with 2 late goals in the last 10 mins"

Big game next week as table below shows:

Threave 20's are back at Meadow on Friday night against Lanark 20’s. A game in which a minimum of a point would see them qualify into the knockout stages of the League cup. Hopefully your support can get the boys over the line.

Result from Meadow Park

Threave 20's 1-1 Lanark 20's

Threave win 5-4 pens to earn bonus point.

Point in normal time enough to get Threave through to last 16.

Put up thoughts tomorrow.

Final League Group Table

IMG_20230909_083052.thumb.jpg.5a0d8e1d11b439176576325aa42a0bda.jpg

A well taken first time shot from Threave 9, was enough to give Threave 20's the point needed to move into the last 16 of the WOSFDL League Cup. The 5-4 penalty shoot out was, well a bonus.

A very different game from last week's encounter v Lochar.

Against Lochar players on both teams were afforded time on the ball and were allowed to receive the ball without much pressure. The Lanark boys however were closing down all over the park and anticipating passes and second balls.

As a result of this 6 & 8 for Threave did not have the time and space afforded last week to comfortably control proceedings. But along with the 10 they competed well and gave Threave a foothold in the game allowing them to create enough going forward to get the result.

They will and should learn and develop from this.

Defensively Threave were excellent coping in the main with the constant movement and pressing from Lanark with the young keeper making a number of solid blocks and stops.

The forward line worked tirelessly competing well particularly out wide with both 7 & 11 having great contests with their respective full backs.

The eventual hero of the hour Threave 9, found it so much more difficult from last week. With less time afforded to him in possession he cut a dejected figure at times and before his goal was becoming frustrated.

In summary the entry into the WOSFDL is already reaping rewards for these young men. As the season continues they will meet teams and players quick of thought and action.

With hopefully the help of the coaching staff they will continue their progression. Will say same of Lochar who impressed last week at Meadow especially with resolve shown at 0-3.

Hopefully will get along to NWCC to see both our teams play.

Conference League begins next Friday for both our boys. Enjoy the journey ahead.

Interesting tie with some personal ties. Kirkie Rob Roy are a club I know fairly well. Was involved with the old u21 team a few years back before the u20's came into existence. And my boy has played for both the u21's and the senior team before all the lockdowns.

Very much looking forward to it. Can't praise both Lochar and Threave enough for showing the will to expose local boys to a wider experience.

Did you watch the draw live? Want to know how it came across.

Sorry Craig I didn't. I'm not one for watching live draws, quite happy to wait until posted afterwards.

Good opportunity to give you some feedback from the deep south.

For both the 'derby' matches between Lochar & Threave attendances were around 200, with I believe +250 at Meadow Park in CD (Castle Douglas). For the decider v Lanark was under 200, to be expected but there were a decent number travelled down from Lanark to follow their boys.

The quality of play particularly when Lanark visited was of a high level. The attitude I'm seeing from the boys in the 3 teams I've witnessed has been encouraging.

They all appear engaged and to be enjoying matching up against boys from outwith D&G. Pretty much what I've seen at Threave since their migration to the west.

Obviously can't vouch for how it's going in other areas; first quarter report is a big positive from the wilderness. 👍
