Oxford Street disorder

Aye because the London riots were totally caused by the youths disaffection of Camerons policies...

I lived in Turnpike Lane for a while, just after the Broadwater Farm riots. It may not have been called “wilding” then but I saw first-hand more than one mob-handed indiscriminate rampage through the Wood Green shopping centre, which bore no resemblance whatsoever to a Robin Hood like redistribution of wealth other than in the range of blunt and sharp weaponry involved.

On the plus side, there was a Wimpy at the other end of the high street, which balanced out the whole “risk v reward” shopping experience.

The London riots were directly caused from the police shooting Mark Duggan dead.

Everything after that was a ripple effect and opportunistic looting despite what everyone's favourite middle class columnists have said on the matter.

I seem to remember that the middle class commentators were all for sending in the army to deal with it at the time.

I was a teenager so can't remember reading much at the time tbh.

I do mind people getting arrested for setting up Facebook groups to try and start riots elsewhere which is hilarious.

Also as a very random aside, I was just checking something on google regarding the shooting and Duggans son is actually a relatively successful rapper nowadays who I've heard of but had zero clue they were related. That's got to give you some level of street cred...

Mark Duggan's son (and brother) were both arrested in Selfridge's on Oxford Street last year after a large fight where two men were stabbed.  They were both cleared of criminal charges, several others involved were convicted.

I'm going to be honest, I might steer clear of Oxford Street for my shopping in future.

Yeah, I remember this too. I also remember the ridiculously harsh sentences passed down on those who were involved. The Portuguese guy who was deported for stealing a scoop of ice cream, first time offenders getting jail time for a bottle of water.

I was in London on Sunday and popped into one of those Sainsbury metro type shops. The cashier said that she was a bit shaken as a group of guys had walked in earlier and basically just helped themselves to stuff. She said it happens on a regular basis.

Given what is being briefed to police officers in Scotland this week, cuts on an absolutely massive scale, dont be too surprised if this starts happening in our towns soon too.

Is Oxford Street not just like any other of Britain's shitty high streets now ? Packed with American Candy shops and Turkish Barbers.

Looking forward to the hauls of Jolly Ranchers and hair wax being posted on social media.

Hopefully the people money laundering at these places will do the necessaries re justice being meted out

Surely can’t be much left to cut? My local station covers a ridiculous area.

Briefings have been provided to managers that its officially burst. If an office can close it will close type stuff. I believe stuff will start to hit the media soon about the scale of it all. But some of the confirmed stuff already in the press is that traffic cover overnight will be 2 cars in Glasgow, so if there is a fatal crash in Inverness or the need to provide a fast escort to an ambulance carrying a dying child there will be no one to help.

Ooft, not good. Pretty frightening really. Fingers crossed those in power see sense, but can’t see that happening.
