SSFL LEAGUE CUP 23-24 - ROUND 1 14:00pm Abbey Vale vs Mid Annandale 14:00pm Lochmaben vs Stranraer 14:00pm Upper Annandale vs St Cuthbert Wanderers 14:00pm Wigtown & Bladnoch vs Nithsdale Wanderers Not being a local have no insight on history of the cup. Commonly known as the Haig Gordon Cup it's 1 of 5 straight knockout cups only for SOSL teams alongside the League, Cree Lodge, Tweedie and Potts cups (though a few outsiders sometimes enter the Potts). Haig Gordon was a South official was served on the SFA, in particular the Selection Committee who used to pick the Scotland team in the days before there was a manager, and the squad for a while after. There is a photo in SFA centenary history of him and other members (including boyish Ernie Walker) sat around a meeting room table with Matt Busby. I've also read that he was well-known for entertaining officials of foreign countries with his "soft shoe routine" i.e. tap dancing...
