Dumbarton v Elgin City 18/11/23

Recommended Posts

The long looping ball is much more common at home because when we move the ball side to side on a pitch as narrow as ours it becomes easier to block the passing lines into Gray or Ryan Wallace, leaving our defence with the option of playing a channel or finding the opposite winger.

Well if anyone was in any doubt as to what Matty Shiels brings to us today provided the answer.  Ryan Blair didn't have a bad game but oh we badly missed having pace down the left-hand side.

As it was we still created enough chances to win the game - five times hitting the woodwork - but it was far from a free-flowing win.  In fairness, the main reason for that was a very organised and disciplined Elgin performance, and fair play to them for that.  As already mentioned, Brett Long's save followed almost immediately by the penalty/goal at the other end effectively decided the game.

We got there, and we move on.  And credit Aron Lynas for a huge performance.
