TV Coverage Thread

Perhaps if the commentary/punditry teams were not nearly 100% English*, apart from representatives of the teams playing (including Souness for Scotland), there would be less of the endemic bias.

At least ITV do have McCoist on general in-game punditry. Who have the Beeb got?

* Keane counts as English because he played for Man Utd, you know...

One of the joys of being over in Germany is not having to put up with cringeworthy TV coverage back home.

Its was actually fun watching the build up to the English game on local TV here and seeing the presenter effortlessly change from German to English when interviewing some fans before the match and the Leeds fans that were interviewed trying to figure out if they were taking the piss out of them!

Like 100% of English politicians are obsessed with keeping Scotland in the Union.

Yet, apparently, England are subsidising Scotland. Apparently.

Obsessed and scared of going it alone without your golden goose.

As for "hating".

Flip the script: Imagine every time you turned on the tv you heard a Scotland voice, you had to watch English shows and English commercials, etc.

Imaging during England's matched 10% of the build up is about the England's upcoming match and 90% is about Scotland's upcoming match.

15 minutes into the coverage last night it went to England's camp. I immediately switched off till kick off.

Imagine your media, print, radio and television has a Unionist slant to it.

Want to talk about the £2trillion from the North Sea?

I think if the shoe was on the other foot you'd get it.

Have you actually ever met anyone English to corroborate your McGlashanesque rantings ?  I want an independent Scotland too but not because of 'English' adverts on the telly. Try talking to some people. Many, many English are as scunnered with the little Englander, Tory leaning media as any Scot is. They long for an independent Scotland as somewhere a little more decent than Tory England that they can escape to.

The Euro's are nothing to do with politics. Well done for squeezing it in though.

that may be so but Scotland being subjected to Budwesier national run ads (where they are showing Geoff Hurst and rooting for England to win the Euros) is not going to annoy many English people, regardless of their political persuasions. With a Scotland team also in the tournament it is truly a mind-boggling set-up that has become all too normalised. Being increasingly exasperated with it does not make you a McGlashan type.

Zero pundits or commentators annoy me.

Pundits are paid to give their opinion. It's amusing that it annoys people when they're just doing their job.

It's like walking into a garage and being outraged at mechanics fixing cars.

Social media has conditioned people to have an opinion and hate that people have opinions.

If the Euro's have nothing to do with politics then how come Israel and Ukraine could have qualified but Russia couldn't?

Every major sporting event is 100% about politics.  Starting off with all the dodgy dealings in the voting process.

I can't recall what games Lee Dixon covered over the weekend as a co-commentator but he's very much the new Mark Lawrenson.

Dixon doesn't have the humourous cynicism that Lawrenson had in his miserableness.

a pundit is paid to offer their tactical and analytical insight. That has morphed into geezer type opinions from mainly ex-footballers who are pretty much fans in the studio. They do no research beyond what they know from the football they already watch - essentially English Premier League and big teams in the Champions League ie "your Real Madrids, your PSGs" etc.

When you get an overseas coach or a journalist on, who largely provide you with insight and substance which is a world away from the basic opinions from the likes of Shearer and Rio "best player in the world right now" Ferdinand, the difference is staggering.

Gabriel Clarke is nowhere near as insightful as he thinks he is.  Laura Woods is nowhere near as competent as TalkSport listeners would have you believe.

I thought the same thing. Miserable git determined to ruin any enjoyment people might take from the game. Going on like commentating on it is beneath him.

Lawrenson was never humourous. He was a torn faced c**t and clearly thought his position was untouchable as he got worse at every tournament. Absolutely delighted to watch him greetin in his latest interview and practically blaming 'wimen and the blacks' for him being booted out. A horrible c**t of a man.

It is what it is.

Supply and demand, etc.

No one's pretending that the current crop of pundits are SAF or Ancelotti or Capello.

They're being paid to give their opinion. That's pretty much it.

Grown men getting angry over it is just plain silly.
