Le Tout P'ti FC
A place for those wee wanders that don’t quite qualify for the Hillwalking Thread, but are a bit more than taking the dug for a walk around the park. I'll put up some of my efforts over the holiday to kick this off. But hoping to get some ideas for new walks. Christmas Eve: Falls of Clyde. Walked out to cross the Clyde at Bonnington Weir, and then down the other side to Corra Castle before looping back. Finished off with a slice sausage supper from the chippy at Lanark Station.
Le Tout P'ti FC
Christmas Day: along the Tweed from Peebles picking up the old Peebles-Lanark railway to Lyne Station, back down over Manor Bridge. Why the long face? It rained constantly.
Le Tout P'ti FC
27th: Glasgow Mural Trail. Basically following the route set out here: https://www.citycentremuraltrail.co.uk. Adding a few stops for food and a bit of shopping. Really enjoyable trip around the City. Would recommend.
Le Tout P'ti FC
Hogmanay. East Neuk of Fife. Crail to St Monan’s on the King Creosote pilgrimage trail. Stopped for chips in Anstruther, of course we did. Weather was glorious but still managed to get soaked through thanks to a rogue wave at Anstruther Harbour!
Le Tout P'ti FC
New Year’s Day: back along the Tweed from Peebles past Neidpath Castle. This time crossing by the old railway bridge and back through the scary Neidpath Tunnel where it is said that the King’s train from Balmoral to London took refuge during the War when a German bombing raid was spotted in the vicinity. Railway closed 1954, and future monarchs are going to have to shelter their trains elsewhere in times of war! Spotted two herons on the Tweed.
pozbaird
Anyone happen to find themselves in Cumbernauld and fancy a walk, park at the new retail park at Broadwood Stadium, walk past the stadium, around Broadwood Loch, back past the stadium and back to the retail park where a Greggs and Tim Hortons awaits after your efforts. Alternately, park at the same retail park, head on foot in the opposite direction from Broadwood Stadium, go past the big secondary school and walk around St Maurice’s Pond. Park in the big retail park at Westwood Studios, walk through Cumbernauld Glen. Various paths go through the Glen. Head up past Cumbernauld House, see the ‘Gregory’s Girl’ tree. We do all three walks, plus plenty more, all the time up here. There’s Cumbernauld Country Park right across from our house, and if we walk the other way, there’s great walks through Dullatur and down to the canal. If you park at Croy train station, also great walks down to Auchinstarry Basin. If you don’t know Cumbernauld and maybe just bomb past it on the motorway, you’ll maybe think all it has is a decaying brutalist town centre building, and a lot of roundabouts. I am 100% convinced that in every ‘normal’ Scottish town, around it, there will be some very interesting ‘unknown’ places - unless you are a local. One of my photies’ from Cumbernauld Glen… Edited January 6 by pozbaird
