How is that fair? People voted for the Labour party in those areas. No they didn't because that's not how the Westminster electoral system works. If they were resigning while holding a party list seat in the Scottish or European parliaments then there would be an issue of fairness - in the 'greatest democracy in the world' you vote for the donkey and not the colour of its rosette. And no wonder the Labour Party are a mess when you consider where that individual is now. He was leader of the Labour Party at the last GE. That was the election that May thought she was going to be returned with a huge majority but ended up losing her majority and leading a minority government. Are you aware of this or has it escaped your attention? Edited February 18, 2019 by Granny Danger

I reside in Liverpool and close to her Wavertree constituency and like Granny said, she’s out of touch with the people who put her there. Also, she’s anti Corbyn in an area where Corbyn is the Messiah. She should have toed the line. All 7 should be made to face by elections but they care about their 70 grand a year too much. And she should really be playing the role of matriarch of the Adams Family rather than a Socialist.

However many years later I'm still not sure of the point, or the system. The Labour Party wants this guy to lead us! But the Parliamentary Labour Party say he he's shit. We'll say again, the Labour Party want this guy to lead us! But the Parliamentary Labour Party (the Labour Party people that are in Parliament?) think he's shit. It's like trying to make your legs walk in different directions at the same time. Maybe they should take a leaf out of Ross Thomson's book...

Looking back, I suspect that may have been blip, with many voting for Labour under the false assumption that they were actually opposed to Brexit. If there was a GE tomorrow I'd hazard a guess that the Tories would romp home.

They would still need to be in a political party and one that would get them into Parliament. We're dealing with a new generation here who are quite happy to pimp themselves around any, and in some cases every, political party in the hope of getting elected. They have no ideals or principles and are basically careerists in the simplest of terms. It's pretty depressing actually...........

I’m struggling to understand your logic. I think that Corbyn has achieved the remarkable feat of making it almost as embarrassing to state your support for him as stating your support for May. The fact is that Labour have let many voters down by actually helping to facilitate a Tory Brexit, rather than oppose it tooth and nail. I never said that people who voted Labour last time would swing to the Tories, but I do believe that a large number of 'moderate' Labour voters last time out are utterly disillusioned with the party, and would hold back their vote.

Assumption they would actually oppose Brexit or dilute it or make it less likely or prevent the Tories from bulldozing it through via a large majority. If Labour is offering up the exact same thing as the Tories - but slightly nicer - then I think these voters will go elsewhere. If Labour are going to have a stronger showing at the next election - I would wonder why.

Unless and until the Tories devastate the country with Brexit that title would still go to Thatcher. Despite the terrible MSM campaign against Corbyn, aided and abetted by many of his own MPs, Labour achieved one of the best comebacks from low polling numbers largely due to Corbyn.

vikingTON
A comeback to... what exactly? Labour lost that election; it doesn't have anywhere near enough MPs to form a government: and would be no closer to achieving that if there were an election tomorrow. Netting a couple of late goals in a 3-2 defeat to the political equivalent of Albion Rovers is not an achievement.
