Ric
First post, but I believe this answer will resolve any doubts. "What is the point of Labour" .. "To prop up Tory governments" /close thread.

Are they like best mates now, or something?

As for the South, they are pandering to Brexiteers and that only shifts them to the right, and they were hardly to the left even with the utterly duplicitous Corbyn at the helm. Don't get me wrong, I've got strong socialist sentiment, but the modern Labour party do no reflect that one iota.

I was unlucky enough to live in N.W England in the heart of "red wall" country for 3 years. Hearing comments, almost on a daily basis like "The immigrants get everything handed to them on a plate" and of course, "I know what I voted for" just said it all. Immigration was all that mattered to the racist xenophobes in that part of the world in the great Brexit debate.

Ric
If you look across the opposition bench, I'm not sure who could replace Starmer and do a better job. Now, don't go thinking that's an endorsement of Starmer, it's not, probably the one person who could make an impact for Labour is a man no longer in the party and who's brother beat him to that job. All that's in an English context of course, Labour won't get support up here while they continue to seen as in bed with the tories regarding independence.
NotThePars
Somehow I don’t think Starmer is going to advance the class struggle like Paul Mason is arguing

vikingTON
Captain Obvious strikes again with a stunningly vacuous, 11:55pm statement of concern about the situation in Afghanistan: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/14/keir-starmer-warns-of-afghanistan-slipping-into-hands-of-terrorists Yep, I'm sure that the Security Council will crack on with that, so long as America's poodle puts it on the agenda! Quote we can’t walk away and undermine the legacy of the last 20 years.” I'm not sure Starmer quite understands what 'legacy' means, because 'temporary changes mandated by Western military occupation' are not that.
