Magna Cupa: EOS Escapades in the South Challenge Cup 2024-25

R1 & R2 draws 8pm tomorrow.

Improved sponsorship and support to subsidise away travel sees a return to 'all-in' for first time since 2020 - while Final moves to earlier in spring.

After some good showings, including Dunipace's delayed win in 2022, last season went poorly in EOSL terms after a decent start.

By my reckoning:

   16   Lowland
   57   East of Scotland
   11   South of Scotland
   79   West of Scotland
(as Carluke debarred)
163

=

R1   -   35 ties & 93 byes
R2   -   64 ties

Well those draws have gone mouthwateringly for EOSL interest.

Some really magnificent ties here: highlights in R1 would include Fauldhouse v Albion Rovers :o, Auchinleck v Hutchison Vale, Dundonald v Troon, Broomhill v Thornton (over at Dumbarton), St Andrews v Gartcairn - plus Burntisland v Glenrothes derby.

Notable in R2 would be Livingston Utd v Bo'ness Utd :o, Ormiston v Cowdenbeath :o, Gretna v Edinburgh Community :o, Berwick v Heriot-Watt Uni :o and Beith v Armadale...

... plus potential: Arniston v Linlithgow :o, West Calder v East Stirlingshire :o, Albion Rovers v Dunipace, Gala v Camelon, Troon v Dunbar, Hurlford v Penicuik, Cumnock v Whitburn, Bo'ness Athletic v Auchinleck, Largs v Edinburgh South and St Cadocs v Pumpherston.

Meanwhile the road trip of a lifetime goes to the EOSL's newest sides with Campbeltown Pupils v Linton Hotspur which is the away draw I was hoping for :(.

Not to mention East Kilbride v Tranent 8)...

St Andrews have received a bye into the 2nd round according to their Social Media. "Clerical Error" the reason given.

Apparently Gartcairn don’t want to take part in this years competition.

I am not sure whether they informed the SRCC competition committee and were still included in the draw by mistake or if they just didn’t tell anyone that they didn’t want to play in the cup.

Either way it is frustrating to find out late in the day that the game is off but at least I have my first visit to Moffat to look forward to.

If they play it in Moffat?

They've been playing their games elsewhere recently.

Uppers are playing at King Edward Park in Lockerbie. There were issues getting regular access to Moffat Academy as far as I'm aware.

I thought the SRCC was a compulsory comp for all Lowland Area clubs. Gartcairn have been very vocal in their contempt for the SRCC, they prefer playing in the SJC.

Repercussions incoming for the Cairn?

Don't know what the rules are like these days but in 2022-23

Quote

.5 Any Club which refuses or fails to play against the Club against which it is drawn, without, in the opinion of the
Competition Committee, having sufficient reason for so doing shall be adjudged to have lost the tie and may be
sanctioned by the Competition Committee.
5.6 Any Club which intends to scratch shall give notice to the Competition Secretary and to the Secretary of the Club
against which it is drawn, at least four days before the date fixed for playing the tie.
All cases of Clubs scratching shall be reported to the Competition Committee, who shall have the power to order the said
Club to reimburse its opponents for any expenditure, loss or damage incurred, or to take such action or sanctions as it
deems fit.
Any Club which fails to give a satisfactory reason for scratching, or which withdraws from the Competition without first
obtaining the consent of the Competition Committee, shall not be allowed to take part in the Competition in the following
season

I doubt there would be any hefty penalty and being excluded from next year's competition sounds like something the people running Gartcairn would be thrilled by.

I don't normally do things like this but smell a rat here; when the draw was made for the SRCC nothing on Gartcairn x, but when SJC draw was made cocouldn'get it out quick enough.

Absolutely nothing as yet on their social media, which for a club that lives on it usually tells a story.

Cairn have an ex-junior man at the helm, McDowall his name I think. (Please correct me if wrong).

He has been very vocal in his contempt for any cup outside the SJC and was wanting the WOSFL to vote on making the SRCC a voluntary entry competition.

Club would probably be grateful for a lifetime ban.

Had a lot of time for the Cairn as knew them as a Youth Academy.

But some of their actions recently are shining a light on them. Starting to give me Broomhill vibes.

Apparently Gartcairn informed the SRCC in May that they didn’t want to take part but were mistakenly included in the draw.

You would think they would put something on their socials as some of their supporters will think they have a game on Saturday.

I’m assuming they do have supporters?

Not supporters; business partners or something. Apparently they are all local entrepreneurs, the linkdln of non-league football or something.

The more I hear about the machinations at this club; another Broomhill. Both morphed from well respected youth clubs.

And Wigtown&Bladnoch get stick because they are struggling on the pitch. At least they don't jerk around with competitions like this club.

Alex McDowall was the chairman of Gartcairn but stepped down to take up the head SJFA blazer role after Tom Johnstone (sp?) left the role. Of course Gartcairn making a move like this is surely not related to the vested interests of McDowall at al in the slightest no siree.
