IIRC he signed for Troon, then out of nowhere he was supposed to sign for an Australian team, now that would have been a helluva commute.

Not quite.  he came too us cos it would be a short commute before he went abroad (where his registration fell through)

I'm sure when Oran Kearney was our manager he used to head back to Coleraine after our matches and returned to Paisley on the Monday morning.

Gordon Scott our chairman at the time he left us said:

Frank Beattie captained Killie to the league title, worked down the pits and commuted to Killie from Stirling for training for the entirety of his 16 years at the club.
