Cover Versions!

Thought it would be a good idea, and now I'm struggling to think of 5.

You can argue yourselves whether the song had to be known already, e.g. Marvin Gaye's cover of Heard It Through The Grapevine- not many folk have heard Glady's Knight and the Pips' version. But I'm not bothered :)

In no order:

Jimi Henrix- All Along The Watchtower

Byrds- Mr Tambourine Man (Spot the link!)

Roxy Music- Jealous Guy ;):P

Ataris- The Boys Of Summer

Johnny Cash- Hurt

CCR - Heard it Through The Grapevine (Gladys Knight & the Pips ;) )

Snow Patrol - Crazy In Love (Beyoncé!)

Gary Lightbody (er... Snow Patrol) - The Blowers Daughter (Damien Rice)

Oasis - I Am the Walrus (The Beatles)

Oasis - My Generation (The Who)

Who says Oasis are a covers band? ;)

EDIT: I should really mention the Snow Patrol cover of Teenage Kicks!

Oasis' My Generation is superb! As is they're version of help!

I also really like Jamie Cullum's cover of Pharrell Williams Frontin', Jamielia's version of Numb (Linkin Park) and the scissor sisters done an amazing version of Franz Ferdainand on Jo Whileys show!!

Snow Patrol's cover of Beyonce is good, as is Elbows - Independant Woman!

Can't believe I missed this thread:

5. I Don't Wanna Grow Up - The Ramones

4. The Man Who Sold The World -Nirvana

3. Absolutely any cover from the last four Johnny Cash albums, with the possible exception of In My Life

2. How Can We Hold On To A Dream - Kathrine Williams

1. A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker

I hate all Oasis covers, but nowhere near as much as I loathe Rod Stewart. Or for that matter Stereophonics manslaughter of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

Oh, and Boys Of Summer - a song about how a man will love his wife after the baseball season is finished: like most Eagles songs (and the various members solo work) hilarious, but not deliberately so.

And finally, for the moment, Ryan Adams did a version of Wonderwall (the original I absolutely detest), turned it around, made it utterly melancholic and basically made it his own song.

Did you hear Will Young covering Outkasts Hey Ya? Heard it a few times now and have seen him perform it on TV - I preferred it to their original.

Has Snow Patrol not also covered Rachel Stevens - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex? Wasn't very good from what I heard!
