  1. On paper at least I'm very, very pleased with that. A new goalkeeper always gets me excited, but a new foreign goalkeeper just tips me into a new world of excitement. Add in the fact he's on loan from Hibs and it's dream come true stuff default_wub.png

This was on his Twitter. If he performs like that for us then we've knocked it off.

I want my keepers to be absolute Monk-esque lunatics.

That short clip had him diving at feet and heading the ball away from the boot of an incoming centre forward. Just missing a square go with his own centre-half but he’s already ticking all my boxes.

Do we sell replica goalie kits in the club shop?

  2. You have your reasons for supporting Dundee and I have my reasons for supporting Rangers, it doesn’t make either of us a better person, it just heightens your sense of superiority and who am I to argue with that. Batter in mate.

You seem like a reasonable enough poster (so far) but that last bit made me lol at the shear hypocrisy of a Rangers fan accusing others of having a sense of superiority. This from a follower of the WATP who revel in the faux superiority complex following Rangers appears to give them.

  3. Good statement from the club. I did think that there would be an issue using season ticket money just now for both the reason that the club has stated and also it would leave us with no budget for when the season did start.

One suggestion I have would be that I personally wouldn't mind setting up a monthly payment of say £30-40.

This money would be used to start paying towards my season ticket and then pay whatever else I owe when the season does starts. Or if by the time I've paid my season ticket monthly and the season hasn't started yet just leave the monthly payment to continue until the season does.

That was my thinking behind a monthly contribution. The club offered this as an option last season (£25 pm) and there’s also the Manager’s Fund but I don’t think any of those options would suit what you are suggesting. For the liability reasons mentioned in the excellent club statement, and because the Manager’s Fund is specifically ringfenced for a playing budget.

Paying in to the MF now wouldn’t be a bad way of building a good budget for when we do get back to playing. The club will need a separate fund for ongoing operational costs though. It would be good to know what that monthly sum would need to be and see a push for contributions to cover those costs specifically.
  4. New message from John Steele now uploaded.
I do wonder if there will be an option soon to buy season tickets? I know that we're no closer to finding out if, never mind when, we can go to a football game in the future and that the club will be very hesitant to offer season tickets that they can't at this stage fulfil, but I'd rather go down the route of selling season tickets than looking at auctions and donations to raise more funds. I'd be happy to pay my season ticket with no expectation of attending games in 20/21 on the basis that if we can return to attending matches then my season ticket is good to go. Whether thats a full season or a shortened one, I'm good to pay money to the club. I'd budget for paying my £250 or however much it is in May or June every year. Making a financial donation and then still having to pay for a season ticket? Not everybody is going to be in the position to do so. If and when football returns, fans will still have to buy tickets. Not everybody is going to be able to chip in a 3 figure sum now and then again come ticket time.
It would be good if the club were able, and willing, to let people pay a fixed season ticket price now. If we only get a handful of games in early 2021 then so be it - I'd be happy for the club to keep the balance of the season ticket money as a donation. I just think that it may start to be a big ask if we've had the crowdfunding campaign, we're going to move towards auctions and other fundraising and then we may eventually move on to selling season tickets. I think it would offer fans a better balance than fundraising on it's own and then potentially having to buy a season ticket.

I don’t disagree but equally a relatively large lump sum of money in the current climate may also not be feasible for people. I think the happy medium here would be for season tickets paid up via monthly direct debit or whatever.

The club get a steady income to help with cash flow, its more affordable when family budgets may be tight and, like you say, fans have a season ticket good to go when the football does start back.

Of course like most things in the world of business, the more options the club can offer fans the better.
  5. I’m sure the club would absolutely offer a refund if a) the inability to fulfil their obligations in terms of games played was the clubs fault b) they had the financial means to do so without jeopardising the very future of the club.

Given the circumstances, and the relatively low value to individuals, it’s entirely reasonable for the club not to offer a refund.

Maybe they’ll be able to do something when revenue picks up again and we’re back to something resembling normal. Until then I’d hope every fan would understand the situation and support the club every way they can.

  6. Does anyone know much about the new Trust rep?
I’ve only really noticed her around recently and thought she was a club employee, I didn’t realise she was running for el presidente.

Lifelong fan, business degree, very approachable and has already given her time free of charge to help the club with hospitality and the like.

All positives and she’ll be a great addition to the club board. Massive shoes to fill with the work Alan F did behind the scenes, with very little gratitude. Sure she’ll be well supported by the fans and be successful in the role.
  7. A good start but need to get the message across to as many people as possible, always on the proviso that everyone's ability to contribute will be dictated by their personal circumstances. In other words, if you can spare some cash then please do.

And maybe I've missed it, but I see no mention of how the majority shareholder intends to assist with this unprecedented situation.

I think we all know the answer to that question! The demise of the club would be rather convenient I’d suspect.
  8. I pay monthly and I’m sure it was to run up til May, that being the logical assumption anyway. I don’t see why this couldn’t be extended but they’d need to contact each contributor first for their consent. I’d certainly have no objection.

Equally an early deposit on next seasons ST would be an option. Of course all this depends greatly on the players willingness/ability to accept a pay cut, and the benefit that can be reaped from the recent government announcement.

I see the fundraiser is now over £7k which is a great response.

  9. I see the club have now launched a fundraising appeal:

    https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/dumbarton-fc-sos

Individual choice of course but hopefully fans feel able to contribute. We need to pull together and do what we can as a support to help the club through. Hopefully the recent government announcement also helps.

As for the football, I’ve resorted to buying Football Manager for the first time in 10 years to get my fix!!

  10. I’d be amazed if the board haven’t already spoken to Duffy about next season. What’s key is that there’s a deadline set for a decision to be made and if there no commitment at that stage we move on.

We can’t have a repeat of last summer. Albeit more than just the manager position contributed to that. I’d like to see four or five signed up for next season within the next month or so, and can’t disagree with Moonster’s picks above.

  11. Away day to dumbarton is always one to look forward to! Swally on the train up, a 3-0 win for airdrie n a swally on the way home

Not to mention our thriving town centre and attractive local women. An away adventure not to be missed.

The supporters team shall put the Airdrie supporters team to the sword first in the early ko, and set the tone for the afternoon.

I’d expect Jai Q to start now that he has some game time and training under his belt, and for Pettigrew to take the keeper jersey. If Carsy is fit and available he’d start on the bench.

I’ll miss this one so expecting a rousing 4-0 home win with flamboyant free flowing tippy tap football throughout.

Airdrie to enjoy their pie but absolutely nothing else.
  12. Not much thought on this one really. The trip to Aberdeen last week means I won’t be there and expect the away support to be relatively low.

What’s obvious is that both teams badly need a win, the hosts more so than ourselves.

The loss of McAllister will be a big blow to Peterhead and a bit of a boost to ourselves but in the absence of our own attacking options I wouldn’t be surprised if this ended goalless.

The arrival of SW is a welcome boost for us and will strengthen an obvious weak spot so defensively we should be better than our last visit there.

I’d rip your hand off for a scrappy 1-0 here. Deflected McGeever header and a late penalty.

  13. A section of our support need to grow a thicker skin.
A video has surfaced showing there was absolutely no 'assault' and the ones crying for these guy to lose their jobs look like diddies now.
The folk shouting at the stewards yesterday are the exact same folk shouting for the ref to send Murray into the stands at the Airdrie game for celebrating his teams goals and stepping outside his technical area.
I was sat right beyond the young team and they did absolutely nothing to merit stewards having words but the reaction from some sons fans is just deflection and frustration coming through from being pumped.

I don’t think that’s the case at all. I wasn’t involved, but believe the anger and frustration at the way in which young supporters of our club were dealt with yesterday is entirely justified. Rather than de-escalate a (non existent) situation they created one. The way in which the entire situation was first created, then handled, absolutely should be challenged. Granted I’d take it to Falkirk rather than the Police.

Interesting though that some see that as an opportunity to focus on our own fans rather than the root cause.

There was little frustration on the performance. Apathy maybe. We were simply outplayed by a better side.
  14. Some amount of drama over this steward thing on the Facebook geoup, including folk chanting police incident etc. A lot of these folk are known loonballs tbf.

    What actually happened?

I wasn’t close enough to see the whole incident, or what (if anything) led to it; but from what I did see the stewards created a situation where there was no need for one. No surprise there then.

When you add in that the situation involved stewards confronting supporters, the supporters being children, and one of the officials from Falkirk then placing his hands on a child, then I’d say it warrants (within reason) some of the chat currently on the SOTR page.

As for the game itself. No complaints. We were unlucky to be behind at half-time but deservedly beaten over the piece. Duffy badly needs to pull a few rabbits from a cashless hat sharpish.
  15. I went to the game today in hospitality as a neutral although in the company of both Well and Accies fans. Thought after the first 15 minutes Motherwell were going to blow Hamilton away but after the goal they seemed to fall out of it slightly. Hamilton improved as the half wore on but at half-time the general consensus was that the game was a given for the Well. They looked comfortable at the back with the Accies offering next to nothing up front and struggling to retain possession in the final third.

Night and day in the second half. Clear from the first minute that Accies we’re going to press the ball and it worked a treat. Motherwell just couldn’t get going and in the end the result was fair and well deserved.

Though the boy Mugabi has a cracking first half but struggled a bit 2nd. albeit to be fair so did most of the Well boys. The No17 has a shocker and was rightly hooked.

Off the pitch, really impressed with the hospitality setup at Fir Park. Well looked after, food was great and the MC was a great host. Good day out all things considered. Fair play to the Accies and good luck to both teams for the New Year.

I’d expect Motherwell to comfortably finish in the top 6, probably 4th, which is a successful season by any measure. Hamilton on the second half showing will have enough to stay up again. Fair play.

  16. C&G Systems really are a great partner and we’re lucky to have them on board. The latest initiative of engaging children on rail safety whilst getting them involved in DFC is just one example of the positive impact they’re having at the club. Great to see.

Also, those tartan scarfs [emoji7] £35 is great value for the quality. One coming in my Xmas stocking hopefully!

  17. Absolutely woeful from us to day, front to back. The weather was horrific but there’s no excuse there as Montrose coped with it pretty well. Outplayed in every position by a team who wanted it far more than we did.

    No excuses.

I’m really not wanting to single out one player as everyone was poor but there’s a few already mentioned who need punted at the next available opportunity.

Credit to Montrose. Well up for it from the off and fully deserving of the points. Keeper with a bit of game management may frustrate but if a poor referee isn’t prepared to deal with that then why wouldn’t he?!

We need a response next week.

  18. After about an hour, I was convinced this was going to replay. I was seriously considering a half day from work to head up to Forfar. Thankfully I don't have to. Either a winnable tie or lucrative defeat in the next round please.

A winnable away tie please. We’ll take a lucrative defeat in the semis.
