First I’ve heard Fletcher mentioned since Clarke took over. https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/17955391.on-form-team-mate-steven-fletcher-make-scotland-return---scotland-reach-euro-2020/ Can’t see Cairney being called up unless there’s a massive injury crisis with our current midfield.
Of course he would but the chances of him forcing his way back into the first team to get a decent run of games by March would be slim which is similar to what happened to him last season.
Bates is out injured at Sheffield Wednesday, not sure how long for but he tweeted something to that effect this week. Phillips is going in for an operation in the international break, Clarke mentioned it in his press conference.
Which will probably see him miss out. Ignoring the opinions on quality, has there ever been a nation so unlucky with call offs as we recently have with centre backs? McKenna and Souttar would arguably be our first choice pairing but we’re well down the pecking order now with the amount of defensive injuries.
He’s on a decent wedge with them but if memory serves he’s also on some appearance related bonus which I think goes some way to explaining why Lampard binned him.
He’s not played for them since early last season, Lampard bombed him into the U23’s where he rotted away last season. Cocu had a look at him in pre season but he picked up an injury against Rangers and hasn’t been seen since.
They’re not nothing games though, they’re Clarke’s opportunity to settle on an 11 and a system that will hopefully get us through the playoffs. Alongside the opportunity to try and get a 3rd place finish.
What I’ve seen of Hornby he’s certainly got a decent turn of pace, he just needs first team football. Whether it be on loan in Belgium or maybe English Champ level I’d think it would be enough to get him a callup.
This is the most recent interview with Fletcher re his international career. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4624527/steven-fletcher-scotland-future-steve-clarke/amp/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true Didn’t really sound too positive then, the only plus is that there’s not actually been a statement since to say he’s chucked it.
Gilmour obviously isn’t going to start 20+ games this season, 10-15 games off the bench with a couple of starts in the cups is more likely. I’d get him called up for the next squad, would do absolutely no harm. It worked with Darren Fletcher.
