  1. That doesn't play well with the section of the support who surmise that the club is completely toxic, from top to bottom, following 3 poor results. The new deal likely protects the club more than it does McPake and McKay, although I would imagine that their terms have been improved also. Not sure it was necessary mind you. I think the worry that there would be a massive clamour from other clubs for McPake's services - on the back of this season - is a bit overstated. Also, I might have waited until we were actually promoted before proceeding. If we kick off next season by losing a league game at home to Stirling Albion, there will be folk going off their absolute nut about this tactically naive, joke of a management team being here till 2026.
  2. I think he's out of contract. If that is the case, I could see a club in England/English Leagues taking a chance on him. Maybe someone in League One, or a Salford or Stockport who like to throw cash around (and are close to Manchester, where I think he's from) or even Wrexham.
  3. Having seen the likes of Ayr and Thistle in the last few weeks, I think we would be fine in the Championship with the squad we have. Need to get promoted first though. The aim would have to be top 4 mind you, so you'd imagine we would be strengthening - albeit might be difficult to get the likes of KRH back. I also think Edwards will go, unless he has more performances like the one at the weekend.
  4. We were poor yesterday, but having watched the Pars for decades, it looked very much like a game where we were going to get a sucker punch with 10 minutes to go, then ping a bunch of long balls to nobody and lose 1-0. Instead, we ground out a 0-0 and went 9 points clear. In all truth, we're not that great. Again, we had the chance to win 4 in a row for the first time all season but couldn't do it. We do have a squad that fights for every point though and doesn't accept defeat. It'll do for me in League One.
  5. It's almost never done anymore, but I'd be asking for it to happen this Tuesday - if it looks realistic weather-wise. Means only a week since our last game and coming down the road for a home game next Saturday.
  6. I was in the Norrie and thought it went over the line but I was still pretty surprised when I looked over to the linesman and saw him racing up the line to signal a goal. I thought there was no chance he'd give such a tight call. However, with the importance of the game, I would have expected the Falkirk players to make much more of it and for it to fire them up. Instead, they seemed to pretty much accept the decision - and then accept defeat thereafter. I reckon if the situation had been reversed you would have seen the likes of Bene and Hamilton chasing the ref round the park, with the latter probably taking his frustrations out on anything that moved for the rest of the match - until McPake subbed him or he got himself sent off.
  7. The atmosphere is better than it has been for years. Possibly due to the fact that the guys in the NW are all now too young to remember terracing and embrace what they have - rather than wish it was something else. Having said that, terracing would still be better...
  8. Aye, hopefully Ayr can knock that one on the head on Monday. Preferably after extra time and in heart-breaking circumstances.
  9. That's been our season. There's been loads of games where we've looked 2nd best going in at half-time, only to come out a completely different side in the last 45. Whether it's fitness and/or game plan, we seem to get stronger as the game goes on.
  10. If we go up, that would probably be reasonably good news for the Championship also. Re last night, it shows again that we are a 2nd half team. We're often not much to look at in the first 45 but seems to run over teams after that. I don't know that we are the best footballing side in the league but we're definitely the most powerful. Was also surprised by Falkirk. They seemed very bullish prior to the game, despite what's been served up to them in the two years prior their current good run - and they always seem to complain that they never turn up when there is a big crowd turning up.
  11. We play Falkirk with 5 games to go - so we need to be 10 points clear to have a chance of winning the league there. That's assuming they've played the same number of games as us. They'll obviously have a game in hand after this weekend.
  12. I'm sure we played Sevco over the festive period that season and it was pretty full.
  13. Aye, I've never quite understood the Super Tuesday fascination. The Pars won 3-0 in the game at Hogmanay, lost 4-0 at Brockville in March and then went on to win the league in May - with Falkirk staying down. It seems an odd thing to celebrate.
  14. Mochrie came into the game more on Saturday when things opened up in the last half hour. He might be better coming on as a sub. Having said that, I'd still play him from the start - back 3 of Otoo, Bene and Comrie, Edwards and McDonald as wing-backs, Hamilton, McGowan and Todd in the middle with Mochrie playing off Wighton up front. If/when it's not going great, you can change it up with a 4-4-2, take off a midfielder and McDonald, bring on big Todorov to win some headers, KRH to play wide right, Mochrie (or Mahon) on the left and shift Comrie to right-back.
  15. I've seen St Pauli with a banner congratulating Celtic on winning a league title. Pretty sure there's been a connection for a while. Rangers and Hamburg is more recent. Enemy of my enemy sort of thing. Plus the fact that one of the clubs is only 10 years old. Regardless, we could still do without this getting hijacked by a bunch of Celtic supporters.
  16. Have the Saudi or Qatari state bought the Pars? I've missed that announcement in the excitement of us signing a new midfielder.
  17. Bidding war amongst the Championship clubs now that it's cleat Hibs will sell...
  18. Aye, I think we're in a good place but I don't get the (very few) posters who seem to think it would take us falling off a cliff or it be a massive bottle job not to win the league. Falkirk have got it together for the first time since the covid break and could go on a very good run. They're already pretty consistent at home and if they start to grind out results away from home, they could put a winning streak together. There's not much quality in the league and we've seen it in the past when a moderately decent side starts churning out the victories due to having a slightly better team and a confident mindset. We have a strong side for league 1, and have ground out the results due to our excellent defence. If Bene, Edwards or Mehmet are out for half a dozen games, we could struggle a bit. The flip side is, of course, that if Falkirk drop points at either/both Edinburgh and Kelty and we can beat Clyde and Montrose, the lead could be in double digits by the Airdrie double header in mid-February. I am not suggesting that will definitely happen but the pressure is definitely on them not to fall further behind or begins to look like a tall order.
  19. You're 2nd in the league and have made 3 signings. It's hardly off topic.
  20. Did Legends not have an American theme for a while? Presumably the interior designer/one of Masterton's daughters figured that wouldn't be complete without Elvis.
  21. Presumably if they want him for their run-in, they wouldn't be wanting him to play in a cup-tie tomorrow and risk injury.
  22. Couldn't care if Celtic have learnt their lesson or not - providing there's another Aston Villa out their to gazump them with their, relatively speaking, loose change. Bert Paton should definitely have a stand named after him, and sooner rather than later.
  23. That's because he was a remarkable player - certainly in comparison to the two career part-timers trying to injure him that day.
  24. It took us 10 minutes to score against your 8 men. A wonderful strike from Falkingham from outside the box. As an aside, James Thomas scored our 3rd goal apparently. I have absolutely no recollection of who he is/was.
