  1. The Jose Quitongo Bobby Zlamal Andy Webster Adam Eckersley Dennis Wyness Scott Gallacher Ryan Edwards Allan Johnston Lawrence Shankland Liam Smith Marian Kello Mark Ridgers Tony Watt Dean Lyness Mihai Popescu Danny Grainger John Sutton Isma Goncalves Ross Stewart Gavin Reilly <Delete where applicable> Derby I mean, yous probably had Alan Gow too at some point, lets be honest, who hasn't. Also, overall that's a pretty poor list of players no matter how you frame it. Apart from the obvious ones.
  2. Today would have got football stopped. The midfield weren't in it because they were simply bypassed for 90 minutes and it was very frustrating to watch us just launch balls into channels that we were never going to win. Gogic, for all that his distribution was slack once moved into midfield, was solid at the back once again, unlike Taylor who threw in a horror show performance that would have been been punished by sides that didn't have a 7ft dumpling by the name of Kurtis Guthrie playing up front. For all that Nahmani got us a goal, his fellow sub Jamieson isn't in the answer at the moment – he's young, raw and trying a wee bit too hard in the occasions that he has come on, as showcased by robbing the ball off Gogic before Livi's opener. I'm certain he has the potential to develop into a good player, as evidenced by the fact that Robinson clearly thinks he has something, but on a game like today I would have much rather have seen us throw on Small further forward for a bit of a chaos factor. Not reading too much into any Saints performances today. Ultimately we got a point on a day that would have got nothing from a couple of seasons back. Nahmani's finish was a lot better than I appreciated at the time and that can only do his confidence the world of good, but that's as far as praise could probably go from this afternoon. With regards to Livingston, for all that Mikey Devlin's ear-cupping celebration was bizarre considering not one bit of abuse was thrown his way today, I thought he was fantastic throughout and nullified the threat of Strain and McMenamin – Hibs must regret letting him go. I still don't get the Nouble hype, while Pittman wasn't in the game at all today. Special mention to Shinnie, glad to see him get a good reception from the Saints supporters when he was stretchered off – unlike the Livingston's fan chants of "dig a hole" towards Olysanya in the first half. Would be hard to dig a hole on a plastic pitch.
  3. Robinson leaving at this stage would be a massive blow. Very rarely does a manager come in and galvanise a club the way he has, albeit it took a little while to get going, just like it took Jack Ross a few months too. We have been blessed to have both Ross and Robinson in recent years, two managers that have arguably driven the club forward both on and off the park. Those that say we didn't suffer because Jack Ross left, I completely disagree. The club was on an upward trajectory that could have been carried on had the right man been appointed. Instead, Stubbs came in and ripped it all up in a fashion that would have made Tommy Craig proud. It's OK to single out Kellerman, but JR's recruitment was always scattergun at best, but he proved that by instilling the right mentality and team spirit that he could get the most out of players and getting them playing above their levels – see, Cammy Smith, Gavin Reilly, Stelios and Danny Mullen. Robinson has done a similiar thing, although I will say his recruitment is better than JR's. He's got Mark O'Hara playing the football of his life, Ryan Strain is hitting levels that I don't think any of us expected, and just look at Olysanya so far this season. I wasn't Robinson's biggest fan when he first came in, but he has proven just about everybody wrong. But one thing is for sure, this has potential for the wheels to come off if the board don't make the right call should Robbo leave. You only have to look back at Tommy Craig and Alan Stubbs to see that.
  4. Still can't get my head round that at all, especially from the likes of Shinnie. Surely if you score a last minute leveller, you go and celebrate with your own supporters. There were a few moments today where it felt like it could boil over and I was surprised the reaction to Miovski wasn't worse than it was.
  5. A lot to unpack following that performance today. The first half is arguably the best we have played in a while, but only had ourselves to blame for not making it count. It was an afternoon of small margins but we won't come up against an Aberdeen side playing worse than that so can't help feel gutted by the scoreline regardless of when the equaliser came. I thought Gogic was a stand out performer today. I know many people prefer him in the middle of the park, but he marshalled the defence brilliantly today and kept Miovski quiet for the most part. He's very unfortunate for the penalty, it's an honest attempt to block the ball and the sort of challenge that we love him putting in. I haven't seen it back but in fairness I would have been screaming for it if it was the other way around. Also, Taylor again continues to improve, and I really like Greive as an impact sub. A couple of slight negatives, what is Strain doing diving in the first half? He's in a fantastic position to shoot, or at least try and cut the ball back. In the world of VAR you're never going to get away with it anyway. Stupid considering the circumstances. Probably obvious, but Zach Hemming didn't have much to do today. However, he really needs to command his box more for the goal. We have been blessed with some fantastic goalkeepers in recent years but Hemming is yet to fill me with confidence, though I hope he proves me wrong. And Oluysana was fantastic today. I know he wouldn't be at St Mirren if he could consistently finish - but he really needs to be doing better when one on one in the second half. Overall, a mixed afternoon. Some decent football on show and no doubt an exciting game for the neutral but feels like a chance missed.
  6. You've got to remember the card that Kearney was dealt. Everything that could have went wrong that season just about did... apart from going down. Off the top of my head: Stubbs blew the budget and doesn't get his jotters until the week after the window closing. Inherits Brian Rice as his assistant – who then gets the Hamilton manager's job, our relegation rivals. Kearney/the club brings in Hammill, Ferdinand and Jackson – only for Hammill to get injured on his debut at Aberdeen. Craig Samson decides he doesn't fancy a relegation battle and leaves for Sunderland outside the window. Leaving us with Danny Rogers and Dean Lyness until we can bring in the unknown Vaclav Hladky in January. Greg Tansey, on papaer, is arguably our 'marquee' January signing. He plays four games before retiring. During this time he also gets a retrospective ban. Eventually lands Brad Lyons after much speculation. He gets sent off on his debut at home to Alloa Athletic in the Scottish Cup. Brain farts like Simeon Jackson's attempted Panenka penalty away to St Johnstone. The fact that Kearney managed to keep us up is nothing short of remarkable. We got lucky that the majority of his January signings managed to contribute for the better. At the time, emptying the likes of Cammy Smith and Ian McShane, and even Hammill in January, felt like a massive risk but in hindsight clearing house was the only way to turn around a sinking ship. We only lost three games after March and I personally don't doubt he would have done as well as Goodwin if he had a clean slate the following year.
  7. Beat me to it. The all red Hummel kit in 2007 was a great strip. Not convinced the 2016 Carbrini kit was a third kit, I'm certain it was the away top. Probably felt like a third kit as it didn't actually come out in the shops until November. I'm sure it was a plain red top, the one we wore against Hibs on the final day of the season, (a more basic version of the previous season's away kit), that was the third strip that season.
  8. Long gone are the days that it took St Mirren until December 5th to win a game – a game of two halves today but will never complain about being top of the league come a Saturday evening, regardless of it being just two weeks into the campaign. I thought some of the link-up play between Ryan Strain and McMenamin was a joy to watch in the first half. Strain drifted out the game a little in the second half but you could argue that was as much to do with Dundee's change in system than anything else. Defence played us into trouble a little bit as the half wore on, Bolton was hesitant and McCowan should have punished us but he hasn't had much game time and will get better as the weeks go on hopefully. Taylor remains a work in progress – especially his thrown ins – but feel a lot more comfortable with him at the back than Dunne. On the other hand, McMenamin was exceptional at times and will cause a lot of team problems. Was really impressed by Mandron and you could see how much the goal meant to him, Boyd-Munce's deliveries really add something to our game that we've probably lacked for a while, and was delighted for Hemming as the Carson nonsense has overshadowed his arrival. On Dundee, there is clearly something there but they took too long to get going today. If the penalty goes in then it's a different game. Not sure about Docherty, both in the way he is on the touchline and his interview on the radio afterwards, but I reckon there's the making of a half-decent squad there.
  9. GK: Ian McCaldon: Blink and you'd have missed him - probably played a total of three games during a brief loan spell from Livingston in Tom Hendrie's sole SPL season. Brought in as a combination of Ludovic Roy being injured and Derek Scrimgour being hoaching. Think he actually come on for Scrimgour in one of the games. DF: Eddie Malone: Came as part of a double deal with Stephen O'Donnell from Clyde in the January of Gus' first top flight season, never got going and played out of position when he did play before eventually being loaned to Dundee at the beginning of the next season and never coming back. Had a good career elsewhere but was never really given a shot. DF: Mark Hill: Loaned in by Jack Ross in the January of the promotion season. Played two games against Falkirk at the end of the season, neither of which we won and he was soon back off to Celtic. Once tipped for big things after playing for Accies reserves at the age of 13, seemingly now at Forfar. DF: Ben Gordon: A decent player in fairness to him, Ben Gordon was signed by Alex Rae in the ill-fated Summer of Kyle Hutton. Rae, for whatever reason, instantly took a dislike to him and loaned him to Jack Ross' Alloa within a week of his debut. JR then got the Saints job, brought Gordon back, and also hardly played him before he as released that summer. Unfortunate with injuries. DM: Paul McHale: Genuinely forgot he played for us but was a Coughlin loan signing and that probably explains why. Came in on loan from Rangers for half a season and scored once - couldn't tell you any more than that. Went on to have a half decent career with the likes of Clyde and Dundee though. DM: Liam Keogh: Another Coughin masterclass, signed on a free from Celtic, played one game, got injured, released. Signed for Inverness that summer and went on to play in the SPL so can't have been that bad. Was on the cover of the Saints programme with his knee in ice after his injury - good cover that. RW: Nick Hegarty: Broke his foot/ankle/whatever hitting a corner after being brought in during Danny Lennon's LSD laced first Saints season signing splurge. Having been wooed by Hegarty's career with Grimsby, Whitby, Willenhall and York City, Lennon released his mistake and released him after just three games. CAM: Sean Lynch: What you would give to see a repeat of Lennon's first signing window. Lynch arrived with little fanfare having failed to make the grade at both Hibs and Falkirk. Shinned home a volley on the last minute of his debut against Dundee United and played a few games over the coure of the season but was never good enough and dropped down to Airdrie that summer. LW: James Dayton: There has been worse players than James Dayton, he was actually half decent, but easy to forget he was at St Mirren the year we got relegated. Drafted in on loan from Oldham, he scored against Partick on his debut (?) and did have a bit of an impact. Best remembered for his spell at Killie though, and also having a pop at the St Mirren board for giving Ian Murray the job over Gary Teale. ST: Mixu Paatelainen: Not a criticism of Mixu, who again done well at St Mirren for half a season before getting injured. Brought in as player coach in the early Gus years, Paatelainen scored his fair share of goals after arriving from St Johnstone. Cut his coaching teeth and when injury took over he jumped at the chance to take his first steps into management with Cowdenbeath. ST: Alan Gow: How Alan Gow isn't on more of these I'll never know. Came in to help Yoann Arquin (christ), never scored, Saints got relegated and he got absolutely clattered by Stephen McManus. Ian Murray decided to keep him in the Championship, was always injured apart from a goal against Annan in the cup, made one cameo under Alex Rae as a sub and then he was gone. Honourable mentions: Stevie Woods, Paul Lawson, Iain Anderson, Myles Hippolyte, Jaison McGrath, Eddie Annand
