Has Newton Stewart applied to the WoS? You mention potential Conference matches with Maryhill!
26 minutes ago, LongTimeLurker said:That would be the obvious inference from the post. Think it can be viewed as confirmed and it will be interesting to see if the other D&G SoS clubs that The_Demon mentioned have applied as well.
24 minutes ago, Pyramidic said:The position may have changed on this one unfortunately. I now think we will have 66 applications including Bonnyton and Glasgow University.
18 minutes ago, FairWeatherFan said:Should that not be 67? 63 West Region clubs, Bonnyton, Newton Stewart and Glasgow University.
16 minutes ago, Dev said:63 west juniors plus Drumchapel United, plus Bonnyton, plus Glasgow University makes 66.
Has Newton Stewart been withdrawn/rejected as this would make it 67?
13 minutes ago, FairWeatherFan said:Why is it looking that way since we've just had a poster with ties to Newton Stewart make a suggestion about getting Maryhill in a Conference?
Just to ensure this doesn't go off track, I can confirm that Newton Stewart do not have an application in.

They & the council have done wonders with the ground as well. It was just a public park and now fully enclosed / 3g / floodlights with a wee bit of cover too.
We are also looking at an additional clubhouse for socials activities and some covered seating.

If we don't draw Maryhill in a conference we can sort out a preseason game maybe.

20+ applications in so far and the WoSL/LL going it along. Apparently some strange stories were told by a Mr Ronney and it's fucked off a few members and the LL

Given that we've no idea when there will be football again it is possible that WoSL may not be up and running until 2021.
Depending on finances too there may be a lot of clubs further up the chain missing and a number of SPFL places to be filled. Watch this space.

Just wait for Coronavirus to completely change the landscape here.

I repeat - so the West of Scotland League will really just be a glorified district league for west-central clubs. It seems a grandiose name for such a limited catchment area - given that the South of Scotland district covers Dumfries and GallowAyr (e.g. Bonnyton).
It seems odd to have a West of Scotland (i.e. Strathclyde/Greater Glasgow) district league sitting alongside a South of Scotland district league in the west area, yet in the east area the East of Scotland League covers the entirety of the Lothians, Borders, Forth Valley, Fife and (some of) Tay districts. So I'd be expecting the winners of the South and West districts to play off first, before meeting the winner of the East region, in order for the play offs to be fair.
Rationally, you'd have either a West of Scotland League encompassing all districts within that region (e.g. South, Strathclyde) and East of Scotland League covering all districts in that region as it almost is now (except for North of Tay district), OR you'd have the individual districts playing off within their overall regions for the right to play off against the top team from the other Lowland region (East v West).
I don't view an application process as by 'merit': I'm referring to promotion for amateurs and juniors via winning a league and progressing through their districts and on into the regions that way; the issue with Threave and no doubt many others is to not give them so big a jump that they guaranteed to fail without the help of some sugar daddy - from district to region to sub-/semi-national (South, to West region, to Lowland) is more manageable than from district to semi-national (South, to Lowland).
I disagree that the Lowland League is anything more than a stop-gap, and in years to come I think you'll find that it will split into Lowland West and Lowland East sections; this will probably have to happen in order to accommodate the North of Tay district, but won't do until the larger west juniors are more fully integrated into pyramid. (Also Interesting to note that Banks o' Dee were invited into the Highland League, but Golspie weren't; wondering where the North of Tay path is here, and concluding that they will end up under the Lowland East aegis).
No - there's plenty more to do in terms of providing a path for the juniors and amateurs into the pyramid, so no quite as worked through as stated above.
But credit to them for having the gumption and fortitude for progressing things this far; hopefully it goes well tomorrow.
All I can surmise from your post is that you're an idiot.

No genuinely. It was quoted juniors are being considered for T5 as an equivalent of HL and LL

We (Heston) will be going along to the sit down in March to discuss WoSL. Previous clubs mentioned in my previous post are all still interested in joining from the South.
We will also be aiming to sort our license for 21/22 season.
Shouldn't you be focused on being 2.0 at half time to us?

What gets accepted for existing members is not necessarily the same as what happens with new ones. Peebles for example would have a problem getting into the EoS as a new member.
Having said that I was a wee bit behind the times on some of the upgrades that have been happening in the SoS. No worse than the likes of Forth, Royal Albert, Port Glasgow and Bellshill for the most part judging from the Nonleague Scotland website.
Think Nithsdale would be very borderline though and they are one of the ones that would find the travel easiest.
Main issue at Nithsdale would be fully enclosing the park. For the most part it is fenced off, floodlights are already in place.

All South West (Wigtownshire and Stewartry clubs) all have enclosed parks.
Newton Stewart, Wigtown, Stranraer Res, Creetown, St Cuthbert, Threave Rovers. All bar Creetown currently have a license, and as far as I can tell it is floodlights stopping them. Whether or not they'll look to get them who knows?
I think again there is a lack of knowledge about us in the South and our facilities. Most parks are enclosed and/or meet licensing standards. There are a whole manner of mitigating factors that could be stopping clubs applying for licenses.
I wasn't at the meeting with Petrie, but have had an overview of discussions. Be keen to understand who Demon is too but not aware of any discussions between parties and/or attempts to join a West league.
We are looking to again develop our facilities at Blairmount for our own needs and requirements and for our own ambitions in the South. If a decision is to be made down the line on joining a West league or being part of a new structure, we'll certainly look in to what is best for us, the community and the league.
We have a great set up where we are, communication with the powers that be down here are great and always kept well informed.
It's exciting times ahead for all in the areas and for football in general.

Reading through pages and pages of this thread and the disparaging comments towards the South League is frankly embarrassing.
We have a league that caters for football from Gretna to Stranraer. Yes, we may not have clubs that are of the same standard as some East Teams or Juniors, but so what? We've always been accommodating towards teams looking to get their foot in the door and offer nothing but a foundation to play football and progress. We have 4 licensed clubs and other clubs within looking to spend time money and effort to do the same.
Maybe some clubs aspirations aren't to get the the LL or SPFL. Maybe we know our level, but maybe there are some who might want to give it a bloody good try.
We are at T6, and whatever the future holds for our level we will deal with it. If any team in the South want to go to the WoSL I can assure you the other clubs will support them; because that's what's we do.

What needs to happen is more promotion of the league and less down play on a team/ people because of personal vendettas.
The EoSFL have done a terrific job due to the integration with the junior teams. The SoSFL could learn many a lesson in its long term aims of being a SoSFL or WoSFL....

Burntisland away for a 7pm kick off on a Tuesday was always murder.

Some decent games in amongst those announced.
Looking forward to football starting again and hopeful we can improve a good bit on our better end to the season than we began for last season.
