  1. Its really beyond a joke now and I actually feel sorry for Antell. He is totally out of his depth and should be taken out of the firing line before his confidence is absolutely shattered. He would have been a decent back-up keeper for us this season, but no way is he good enough yet to be first choice.

His confidence must be shattered by now. We have no right to expect a McGurn or a McGovern, but Antell is out of his depth. I thought Mitchell at Stranraer looked a decent keeper last season but then again I've only seen him play twice.

  2. This is beyond parody

It is but he has a point. I don't think it helps if people have a go at Antell during the match. Every game I've seen him play (including twice for East Fife), he has looked dodgy. I just don't think there's any point in hurling abuse at him as he'll be feeling worse than any of us. But he is simply not good enough.

  3. Is there any money to bring in another keeper (like Ludovic Roy)? Starting to feel really sorry for the guy when I read about him every week.

I don't know about the money but the situation is quite desperate if you have a lousy keeper. I feel bad writing about him because he's just a young lad but he is awful. It is obvious the defence have the jitters because they have no confidence in him. At least Antell has nice hair, though.

Ludo was great for us for a couple of months and then suffered a hip injury. He's not played very many games in the past three years or so.

  4. I think Alloa are a good barometer for us this season with us finishing 25pts above them last season I don't think it's arrogant to suggest we should be looking to finish above them this season as well.

That's a valid point. They also have a manager that clearly gets the best out of what he has. The jury is still out for us and McIntyre.

  5. I for one thought this season would be far more of a challenge. What I didn't expect was Queens in 9th place and 5points after the first 5 games.

I did not expect that either. However, it is early days and there's plenty of time for McIntyre to find the right combinations. The step-up in quality is massive from second to first division (or league one to championship!) but this squad should be competing for a top four berth. We still might but we need to get our pressing game back. I'm firmly in the 'McIntyre is currently messing about with something that didn't need much tweaking' camp. If he ends up being more Chisholm than Gus then that's not saying too much.

  6. Has anyone got any team news or details on tonight's reserve game at palmy?

Heard could be a couple of trialists on show.

We're currently winning 6-1. Airdrie had their keeper sent off on the stroke of half time.

Queens starting XI: Atkinson, Halliday, P Slattery, D Slattery, McLean, Hooper, Orsi, McShane, Reilly, Russell, Smith.

Subs: Leighfield, Park, Burgess, Smith, Ferguson.

  7. Most of the time McGuffie played in mid-field was as a wide mid-field player in a 4-4-2 formation which is a totally different ball-game from playing in the centre.

Yes, you are correct and the same could be said for Paul Burns. I certainly don't want to make a scapegoat of McGuffie because he's still doing fine but he's not the answer in the centre.

  8. I agree they probably would have, but I imagine Cook would have been a bit more respectful. Clarke acted like a fud - getting right in the umpire's face and having to be asked to move away is pretty poor, even at that stage of a game. The schoolboy-style peek over the umpire's shoulder after it was comedy though.

I'd like to agree with you because I love it when the Aussies lose the Ashes, but I think any captain in his position would have done exactly the same thing.

  9. Good point and I didn't think of this, but then I am not a cricketer.

This may be heresy but why not change the construction of the ball?

Presumably by getting rid of the seam. Obviously, water can seep into a cricket ball through the seam. However, we can't get rid of the seam because that would just change the whole dynamics of the game. There needs to be something in it for the bowlers.

Think he loses a bit of respect for trying (and succeeding) to run off when it looked like England would win.

Despite my post earlier about wanting to take a swipe at my telly because of Clarke's delaying tactics, he did what any other captain in world cricket would have done. The ICC need to get their act together at long last.

  10. Indeed. Respect to Michael Clarke for making it a decent game. Simple question. Why can't cricket start at, say, 9.00?

Far too much dew around in this country. We could possibly start at 10:30am.

The ICC need to get back to the old days and allow the batsmen to make the decision. Graham Thorpe's heroics against Pakistan and Steve Bucknor's umpiring at that game make for good cricket. Finish the game.

  11. Yeah Graham Thorpe playing in the dark was a classic, why did they ever change it.

Because the ICC are a bunch of idiots. The umpires had no choice but with only four overs to go, it is time to give the umpires some discretion.
  12. Will they keep having a lash here, or will they settle for the draw now?

Just 8 overs to go. Can't see England losing 6 wickets in 8 overs. Might as well go for it. Just imagine if England need 25 off the last 2 overs with 4 or 5 wickets in hand. Could still get very interesting. The match situation almost changes with every ball bowled.
  13. With 10 overs to go and Pieterson just out, the Aussies will be feeling much better. Great knock by Pieterson but plenty of batting to come. England's bowlers must get a great deal of credit for the way they restricted Australia in their second innings. Still a chance for England but I think the run rate will start to climb now.

  14. I'm not saying he is better Im saying that just because he's a midfielder that makes him a better bet than McGuffie. Maybe it is an area that needs strengthened and yes McIntyre's judgment should be trusted. My point if look at it is that I personally can't see how he can be hyped up by us fans on the back of 1 friendly against a average at best hearts XI. For what it's worth I'm sure with the effort taken to get him here he will be a good addition but he surely should come here with a hint of caution due to the fact we know NOTHING about him other than he is American with a long surname.

I'm not saying ANY midfielder is better than McGuffie in that role. McGuffie played in midfield for many years and is not doing a bad job. However, he lacks a bit of pace and creativity for the role particularly at this stage of his career. I'm not hyping up Dzierzawski but am glad we've signed a player in that position. He might be an unmitigated disaster but I'll give Jim McIntyre the benefit of the doubt at this stage.
  15. Again I can't comment on how good the American is on the back of a non competitive game. So if I was going by your point would steven Sloan of Annan arrived with the same hype as this boy due to the fact he's a midfielder and better than McGuffie in there?

I'll take your word for it that Steven Sloan is a better midfielder than McGuffie. However, if Sloan was that good surely he'd be playing at a higher level. Perhaps, he will given time. However, McIntyre has seen much more of Kev than you or I and obviously likes what he has seen. There's no point in making this signing if the lad is viewed as just a squad-filler in the mould of McShane or Slattery. It's clearly a gamble but it is certainly an area where we need to strengthen.
