  1. This opening partnership between Rogers and Watson is in danger of making Australia slight favourites. With Australia 59-0, I'd say the match is in the balance. England need to get at least a couple of wickets before Australia reach 100.

  2. With such an obvious edge, many batsmen would have just walked off before the inevitable finger went up. I'm still in a state of shock. It's still not as bad as the two decisions by Erasmus yesterday because he had time to reflect and use the technology. I know from experience that edges off spinners are notoriously difficult to spot but surely Dar should have given that one.

  3. I still think England are pretty strong favourites. Australia's total would have been shambolic had it not been for Agar. Their batting line up is all over the place.

I think they'll struggle to chase down 200.

I hope you are right. There has been a slight shift of momentum after Prior's innings, but I still think Australia would chase down 200 but I don't think they'd manage 250.

  4. Bairstow gone now as well. If the Aussies can get Prior or Bell out soon I think they could only be chasing a target of about 150.

I'd be surprised if the Aussies don't win it from this position. England need a change of momentum before the next wicket falls. I suspect the new ball will rip through the tail.

  5. England need a lead of at least 250 if they are to win this test match. Whilst scoring runs is difficult on this track and Swann could cause havoc, the Aussies bat all the way down to eleven. Slight advantage to the Aussies at lunch on day three.

  6. I think that's for the manager to decide not really the fans. IF he does sign I'd like to think we'd give him a chance. An example I made before would suggest its not always the wisest to judge a player when playing for another team.

The manager makes the decision to sign a player but fans have the right to express an opinion whether the right decision has been made. Of course, the player in question deserves the support of the fans. I've only seen Antell once and was not very impressed. However, if he signs I'll get right behind him and hope he turns out to be an inspired signing.

  7. How many of the Australian squad would make it into the England team? Other than Clarke, when he is fit, or maybe Watson, I can't think anyone else would be considered.

Not many would get in the squad, although I do think the Aussies have some decent fast bowlers. Their batting is weak.

  8. Arthur was a disaster and I think Lehmann will get the respect of the players much more easily. I just hope England are absolutely ruthless and destroy this mediocre Aussie side.

  9. Left back? Really? Holt will be first choice, and if he is out then Mitchell can move across and McGuffie go in to RB. If anything, we need someone that can pley left mid.

I wouldn't mind seeing Paton deployed in the centre at some point, behind the strikers. Perhaps in the middle of a 3 in a 4-2-3-1.

I'm with you on that, although I think Holt could play left mid if required. I would like to see us sign a player that is predominantly left footed; a young Ryan Giggs would do.

We need three more players: goalkeeper, left midfielder and a striker.

  10. Coney is a class act. I'm old enough to remember him playing and captaining a very good New Zealand side back in the 80s. He was a good batsman, excellent slip fielder, useful bowler and an outstanding captain. He was also very sporting and famously allowed the retired Bob Taylor to keep wicket for England in a test match after Bruce French got injured. An intelligent man, he always has some useful insights to share as a commentator/summariser.

  11. IF I should die, think only this of me:

That there's some corner of my back garden

    That is forever Palmerston.

    Same :)

The strip was way bigger than I was expecting, so I actually have 3 corners  Mrs X has only seen one so far  :shutup

I'm still trying to work out where to put my piece of hallowed turf. I seem to have acquired a section from the 18 yard box at the Portland Drive end. Sadly, the white chalk line will not last forever but it looks mighty fine.

  12. And so it comes to pass. Nicky deserves a rousing send off today after what he has accomplished this season. Whilst I do not rate McCoist as a manager, he was a very good striker so must have some useful tips to pass on to Nicky. I can't help feeling, however, that Nicky will struggle to score so many goals even in a very dominant Rangers side.

We may even be playing against Rangers next season in the SPL2.

  13. Macdonald

    Mitchell Durnan Higgins Harris

    Burns Tosh Macfarlane Carmichael

    Dobbie O'Connor

Robinson isn't far behind Macdonald, and there isn't much in it between Macfarlane, Young and McKenna. Neilly Mac was an unsung hero though who wasn't really appreciated (perhaps because he pushed fans favourite Scally out of the team?).

Not that dissimilar to my team below:

    MacDonald/Robinson

    Mitchell Durnan Higgins Harris

    Burns Tosh McKenna Carmichael

    Dobbie Clark

I can't separate the keepers. In general, I think Robinson is more likely to make mistakes than MacDonald but the former is also probably able to pull off a few saves that the latter could not manage.

  14. I can assure you Roddy was charged an extra £15 to get the top signed which is shocking fair enough buying the top as the club get loads of requests from charities but charging to get it signed is poor.Especially when its a local charity organised by a Queens die hard who several years ago organised special equipment free of charge to clean the old stand during the fans clean up.

If the club are aware of the reason for the request, yet still charge £15, I find that incredible and sort of despicable.

Not sort of despicable at all. More utterly despicable and heartless.

  15. I see the club are selling off the turf when the pitch is lifted. Should earn a decent amount, and I love that there will be a few special lots (inc where Ryan McCann hit it from 84 yards).

It should certainly generate some interest. However, there is a typo as it states the 'standard' turf will be available for collection on Monday 6 April. I can be in Dumfries on Saturday 6 April, but not Monday 8 April. Clarification would help.
