  1. Don't get me wrong I'm under no illusions that McIntyre will have seen more of him than us and if he does walk straight into the side then it will be because the manager will have a better opinion on him than us. I just find it difficult to work out why alot of the fans on here are building him up on the basis of one friendly.

Yep, I understand what your saying and your probably right about it being totally different, point I was trying to make was more him being built up a great deal and me trying to understand why considering he has only been playing college football. Had he come from the MLS I could see why he was gaining abit of hype, no malice intended.

Like I've said I genuinely hope he turns out to be a great addition and I'm sure he will be.

Whether Kev turns out to be the saviour, we'll just have to wait and see. McIntyre will have seen a lot of Dzierzawski in training and I take you back to my earlier point: Kev has to be a better bet in midfield than McGuffie. I love Ryan McGuffie but he's no midfielder; the game just passes him by.
  2. It can't be hard doing the commentary for your main rivals whilst they're giving you a good pummeling - especially if you were guilty of rubbing it in a bit when the shoe was on the other foot.

I always like listening to him commentate but it just seemed like his masked slipped a wee bit there - and maybe the cheeky-chappy persona is a wee bit put-on.

Warne's frustration was there for all of us to hear. It's just the culmination of a series where Australia have been heavily defeated but have been in the game in all the matches bar one. It was also interesting to hear him praise a couple of ex-Aussie captains in Border and especially Taylor. No mention of Steve Waugh. Funny that.
  3. Fair play to the Aussies here, at least trying to force a result.

England might have 45 overs or so to chase down 200/220

I'll be very surprised if England attempt to chase anything. Clarke can try to tempt England into a run chase but they just won't be interested.
  4. I don't think anyone is saying Kev will walk straight into the team. Partly because of his lack of match sharpness, I'd have thought he'd be behind McKenna and Young in the pecking order. Kev just might be a better bet than Guff in midfield. Hope so anyway.

I don't believe that Kevin has been brought across the Atlantic to sit on the bench.

He was a stand out in the game against Hearts and I expect him to go straight into the team.

Possibly. Almost definitely if we continue playing 4-3-3. If we switch to 4-4-2 then I think he'll have to be content to sit on the bench for a bit.
  5. My take on things after yesterday is that Durnan must play, he offers us a far better physical presence both while we defend and when we attack at set pieces.

As for the midfield, to start with yesterday our central three were not at the races. When young was introduced and we went to 4-4-2 we looked so much better. My preferred central pairing would be the same as last season with Young and McKenna. Kevin, as and when his clearance comes through would be a straight swap for either Young or McKenna. The wide players, well it's 2 from three between Danny, Paton and Burns.

With the strikers again I think it's any 2 from 3. I think so far the manager has been a little unfair on Russell as he's never been played through the middle which is where he's made his name. With Reilly, we saw yesterday he brings the energy and speed that allows us to press further up the park. Lyle has lots of experience to offer but yesterday he was so isolated and more often than not when the ball went up to him it just came straight back.

There's no doubt we have goals in the team I think the manager just needs to get us solid and settled at the back to give us a platform to push on from.

In this league we’ve already seen that mistakes will be punished and it’s difficult to chase a game when you go behind.

Hopefully McIntyre will have learned a lot yesterday and we will see the benefits starting on Tuesday.

Still think its amazing that after 1 game versus a poor hearts side people are suggesting the American boy will walk straight into the side as if he's came with a massive reputation. From what I've picked up he has spent his career playing college soccer which is hardly a reputation that would have me filled with huge excitement, I know 2 people from this town who played college soccer in the states and are now playing for Dalbeattie Star and Heston. That said I am noway writing him off and I do hope he's a success,

  6. I see Mohammed Asif has finally admitted his role in the spot fixing scandal. Does anyone think these guys will return to test cricket when their bans are over? Asif will be 32, Butt 30 and Amir 24 when their 5 year bans are up. I can only reasonably see Amir coming back, he looked to have huge potential.

Amir did look like he would be an outstanding bowler. He had a good action, he was fast, he swung it and moved it around on surfaces ordinarly bowlers would struggle on.  I felt quite gutted that were were going to be deprived of seeing that kid grow into a top quality bowler, maybe he can come back from this? A shame.

Amir looked absolutely outstanding and I was also gutted when his role in the spot fixing scandal was exposed. I'll never forget listening to Michael Holding fighting back the tears talking about Amir. I hope we see this lad again because he looked very special indeed.
  7. Looking ahead to the final test match at the Oval, with there being over a week to go I don't think England will make any changes to their side. If the conditions are suitable, however, I would like to see Tremlett return at the expense of Anderson. The latter has looked a bit jaded since Trent Bridge and the rest would do him some good.

Regarding the images above from the great West Indies side in the mid-80s, they were the greatest team I have seen play the game. Not only was I a huge fan of the graceful Michael Holding in particular but the destructive batting of Greenidge, Haynes and Richards was so difficult to counteract. They had so many other good cricketers at that time that often get overlooked: Gomes, Lloyd and Harper.

  8. That was some delivery by Broad to Clarke. With England having frivolously used up their reviews, they'll need a few more to hit the stumps. Still a reasonable amount of batting to come but I get the feeling this is going down to the wire. Still have to fancy the Aussies to see it through but another couple of wickets in the next 30 minutes or so would put England on top.

  9. A combination of poor bowling by England and Cook's negativity has meant that this is now Australia's test match to lose. Warner has batted very well but the vast majority of his runs have been scored off the back foot. England have just bowled too short and Cook looks clueless.

  10. A great start for Australia. England must be getting a bit twitchy now. No England bowler has looked anywhere near as dangerous as Ryan Harris and Warner seems intent on taking on Swann. Cook's captaincy will be under intense scrutiny as this match progresses. 299 looks achievable and I don't think anyone could deny Australia deserve a victory somewhere along the line.

  11. Making predictions in this series is a dangerous game but I'll give it a go anyway. I fancy this one to go to the wire. I think Australia could chase down 240-250, but if England can get anywhere near 300 ahead then it's game over.

  12. Why would Barry Nicholson sign for Queens ?

He has offers from 2 SPL sides and was only at the game yesterday as he was in Dumfries to see his family

He is going to see one of the SPL sides playing today who made him a offer.

What is going on with this Kevin DZ USA player he was out on the park training with the Queens players.

Has he agreed a deal to sign ?

Is he now just waiting for a work visa ?

Kev is supposedly waiting on his visa. There was some wrangling over the deal, with both money and length of contract being sticking points. I am now led to believe that the issues have been resolved and it should only be a matter of time before he signs. Whether my informant is correct, only time will tell.

  13. The 4/1 I got on Australia on Wednesday is looking a decent wee bet

It is indeed. All three results are possible here but an Aussie win looks most likely. Of course, the weather may come to England's rescue.

  14. With rain forecast for the next 2 days, I think if England get the 34 runs to avoid the follow-on then the draw is the most likely outcome.

If England fail to get them runs then surely Australia have no choice but to send England in to bat again as they need the win.

That's a given. England need to scrape together another 30-40 runs at least. It could be very interesting if that happens as the Aussies would have to come out all guns blazing in an effort to set some sort of enticing target. It is, however, looking like the weather may decide this test match.
