Any news about the abandoned Montrose game, will fans who were there be entitled to get into the restage, someone mentioned if abandoned before half-time time we would be?

I’m not really wanting to write off the £40 I paid for the 3 of us for absolutely nil entertainment, other than watching a bag of about 5 balls take off in the wind across the running track, that was quite something.

As a Cowden fan how much do you usually pay for absolutely nil entertainment....

Sitting in Edinburgh airport just now and the gate next to the one I'm waiting on has a flight to Geneva, atleast 15-20 people in different groups have all come sprinting to the gate which closed like 5 minutes ago, what are you doing in an airport that is important enough for that stress?

Unless there's wider changes we already know what the ceiling is, Tier 6. Unless they want to pay the fees to the LL.

EDIT: This is more of a trivial side-note. Would this be Livingston joining the EoSFA and enter the City Cup?

They were EOSFA members before and played in the City Cup. For some reason they then joined the West of Scotland FA.

Just looking through the league tables after another swathe of postponements and notice that with less than 2 months to go, Stoneyburn have only played 15 games... half their league season.

I hadn't realised just how badly affected they had been! What are the chances of them finishing their season on time? Or might the 3rd Division have to go with some kind of extension just to get through the fixture pile up?

Midweek matches at handy nearby 3G pitches with lights (Broxburn and Blackburn) maybe?

  5. Hibs fan on their game thread mentioned the wind was whistling through the gaps in the Easter Road stands and the stewards couldn't keep their balance. Two Hibees in the pub we were talking to said the conditions were bad at their game (not as bad as Hibs performance though) I also noticed Hutchi Vale's game at Ainslie Park also went ahead today and while there is some shelter from the flats there it can be windy too.

Meadowbank was a wind tunnel even when the big stand was there although I can only remember going to one abandoned game there- against Whitehill in 1998 when the pitch resembled the Commonwealth Pool and after twenty minutes of splashing about the game was abandoned.

I have been to two wind postponed/abandoned games in Angus though- Arbroath v Cowden when goal kicks were blown back over the bar and a game at Station Park which went off about ten minutes before kick off... leaving the town we noticed Forfar West End were still playing their home match  Similarly a game at Edinburgh University just before Christmas. The wind had been strong but had dropped by the time the ref turned up. He quickly called the game off, got in his car where his wife had been sitting and buggered off to do some Christmas shopping.

A New Year's game at Annfield on the old plastic was memorable: same conditions as today, Stirling Albion were awarded a penalty. It was taken and saved by Meadowbank's Jim McQueen but the ball had moved. A pile of sand was then used to try and stop the ball moving and McQueen saved again but the penalty was ordered to be retaken. Third save and the referee gave up. The game finished 0-0 unsurprisingly.

    From our Chairman re: NM:

"He will be successful and take us on. His first pick of players came in January and they have made a big difference. He has been unlucky with injuries and lost some games due to bizarre VAR decisions. All these things happen in football but with a modicum of good luck - which he has not had up until now - he will be a very successful manager."

    I'll have what he's having.

I suppose he has to back the manager in public at least. I mean he can't come out and say "F*ck me, I've picked a right steamer here, who'll be gone in the summer. Just like the last two idiots we picked..."

  7. It's to be a balmy 16 degrees tomorrow although wet and windy.

Probably turn into a farcical hoofball contest then. I can remember a game at Links Park which we won. Some tactical genius in the Mo dugout (Hegarty maybe) decided that playing long balls against City was a good idea. We had Big Joe in defence at centre half and he headed every ball back.

  8. Anent Richard Gough:

When, to my mind and a lot of others at the time, he flounced out of the Scotland team he was playing fairly well for Rangers and so, naturally, certain tabloids launched a "Gough for a Scotland recall" campaign.

There may be some comment regarding this in the old copies of The Absolute Game I have but life's too short to go and find it. I'm sure a lot of Scotland fans were of the opinion at the time that Gough could go and do one.

The National Galleries of Scotland posted this image on Facebook. So I pinched it.

It's a 1930s charity match between Edinburgh Women and Rutherglen. In the background is the stand at The Royal Gymnasium, home of St Bernards, as this was the venue for the game.

When St Bernards folded, the newly formed Stirling Albion put in a bid for the stand but rationing restrictions meant that eventually it only ended up as far as Old Meadowbank where it was used by Leith Athletic and the speedway until redevelopment in 1968.

I went along to this to see the new Meadowbank

its not as bad as some have made out, we were in the back row and able to stand up so the whole thing did not seem miles away.

The crowd was a lot bigger than i has expected, i also think that was the case with the catering as by half time they had ran out of everything bar tea and coffee (with complimentary biscuit) but we could hear them then say they could only offer black tea or coffee not long after that.

The game only really came to life near the end

The Edinburgh ultras were in the McDonald's opposite the stadium after the game just making as much mess as they possibly could until a local challenged them. They were all mouthy in the restaurant but legged it along the road as he chased them as they all left at once. Probably the highlight of a wet night.

A polis car then turned up... probably half an hour after the event!
