I'm sure I've got a copy of AWOL in the loft. It came with a free record.

Meanwhile at a committee meeting at a certain club...

"flat discs? work of the Devil say I. Rosewell folks have always stuck to wax cylinders and always will..."

You could do that if her daughter catches and tortures wildlife just for fun.

Cat owners, to a man and bird, are sadistic psycho's!

perhaps. but at least we don't have to pick up our pet's shite after them. which makes us sadistic clever psychos :)

Meadowbank had a decent side in the late 80s / early 90s. Were hated for playing an excruciatingly boring offisde-trap brand of football, but they punched way, way above their weight. Only reconstruction prevented their promotion to the top flight in 1988 as I recall.

The first division was a much more competitive league back then and the four or five part time teams in the league were much more competitive than the part timers are able to be today. Meadowbank for several years were the best part timers in the country, only losing their grip on that title in the early 1990s...around the time that Christie finally left and Donald Park took over. Then Hunter became chairman and it was game over. I really liked that old first division of fourteen teams, a good mix of big full time teams (Falkirk /Dunfermline/Kille/Ayr/Clydebank), teams that were a mixture of full timers and part timers (Morton, Hamilton) and genuine also rans with pat timers only, like Meadowbank, Forfar, us, Brechin, and Clyde.

An aside...one never sees old Meadowbank tops for sale. The market in old football tops is quite big these days (through sites like classic football kits) but Meadowbank tops never come up. Probably because they only sold in small numbers to begin with and are held onto as cherished souvenirs by those who followed the club whilst it existed. (the only Meadowbank top I think that was ever available commercially, I think, was the Ribero / New Olympic top sponsored by PAR SCAFFOLDING from 1990-94).

Strips were available from local sports shop Colin Campbell Sports (Campbell played for Thistle)  It's a bit like looking for a Montrose strip outlet! Some old strips were also gifted to supporters football teams.

I've got an old strip c.1989 but I wouldn't sell it- don't want the precious relics falling into the wrong hands...

There used to be an old Sports Conscious strip on display in the People's Story Museum in the High Street next to Hibs and Hearts strips- don't know if they're still there.

I also have a couple of old City strips but too fat/old to wear them to matches

  5. slightly before my time but it's the beginning of the 1986/87 season. I think the line ups are:

Front Row is Lawrie Glasson, Ian Smith, David Roseburgh, Terry Christie, John McGachie, Darren Jackson, Tam McLaren

Middle: Arthur Duncan, Ronnie Scott,Ian Stewart, Graeme Armstrong, Alan Lawrence, Paul Leetion.

Back: David Nisbet, Watty Boyd, Grant Tierney, Jim McQueen, Tom Hendrie, Chris Robertson, Michel "The Special One" Lawsoninho

Enjoyed the Electric Pickelhaube review and looking forward to the coverage of Cheers and AWOL. However there was a previous fanzine that predated Cheers - the Meadowbank Review, which produced five or six issues in 1977 before the very sudden death of its editor Jim Leitch aged just 29 or so, He was the best mate of Brian the Bus and some say that Brian has never recovered from it. I had a complete set of them but lent them to a mate to photocopy many years ago and never got them back.

Come to think of it, you probably know him - Alick Milne, who at one time was on the City board (and may well still be). If you see him, ask him if he's still got them...

I had heard tales of the Meadowbank Review but I've never seen any copies. Must be as rare as hen's teeth or Tam the tight buying a round..

Alick Milne, now there's a name I've not heard in a long time...

I believe he now calls himself Alickzandra and is a dancer with a Lady Boys of Bangkok tribute band*

*note: this might be a lie

this reminds me of a story of our late lamented cat:

the vet gave us some little orange pills for the cat to take- one a day.

each day there was much struggling to get the little fucker to take them.

scene: after you think you've got her to eat the pill you find it spat out on carpet. cat is sitting there happily licking its bum. cue comment of "f**k me, the pill can't taste that bad surely?"

It'll be a good half hour plus walk from Waverley.

Plenty buses head that way from Princes Street area.

It costs £1.60 single whether one stop or 100 stops and the bus stops are directly opposite the stadium.

walk? you usually staggered to the Stadium Newky!!  ;)

My cat is called Ally as named by previous owners via the Cats Protection folk. Kept the name as the inference of Alley Cat amused me.

Doesnt suit him though since instead of being streetwise and tough hes a bit thick and an utter shitebag!

sounds like Ally is the perfect name for him...
