  1. 2 slices of wholemeal bread to make a half sandwich of corned beed and tomato, and a half sandwich of cheddar cheese and tomato. Glass of water. Cox's apple. Helping of P&B.
  2. Love it. Tbf, not really a meltdown, as everyone seems to be having a good time. Made my day watching this.
  3. I concluded long ago that Walkers crisps in all their forms were overpriced, and very mediocre. Along with Mackies, a real lowest common denominator of a crisp. These ? I don't care how many Gary Linekers they put in them, I'll still be staying away.
  4. Only in the context of mildly contemptuous disbelief. As in.... aye, right.
  5. An accurate summng up. And a conclusion obvious to any sane and reasonable person. And yet, not picked up on by media, or government representatives.
  6. "Every day, something for the haters". Paul Dacre, former editor, Daily Mail.
  7. Nope. My starting point for authenticity were the original Smiths crisps with the little blue twists of salt. Then cheese and onion. Then salt and vinegar arrived, followed over the years by all the rest. My love for cheese and onion has remained, so obv that's the most authentic.
  8. There must be something out there that isn't smooth and comforting. I'm thinking more of grabbing the back of the throat, and shaking it.
  9. Is there a current recommendable mince pie offering that contains absolute sh*tloads of brandy, cognac, ammaretto, whisky etc, .... ?
  10. That's been obvious for years, except the major powers have been doing their best not to notice. If ever there was a moment for the US to start putting the strong arm on Israel, it's now. Also, the situation has a large potential for ruining Biden's run for a second term as President..., leaving the door open for you know who to let the Israelis continue doing what they want. Perhaps Israel is banking on that.
  11. I remember that. An ICL 1905 machine, as I recall. Immediate foreground, line printer and print waste bin. Far background, operators console ( teletypewriter ). Tape decks for data storage to the right. Wrote my first program there, Fortran language.
  12. Indeed, and not to forget the throwing up in a shop doorway.
  13. Car is at an age when it's going to start needing regular few hundreds of ££'s around MOT time. I'd probably replace the tyres now. I'd also get underneath, and start noting where the corrosion is. Nissans..., Jukes , Cashqais are not well known for their rustproof properties. I'd clean up the shocks with wire brush, and apply Waxoil. Similarly, the brake ferrules, and any exposed brake lines that are looking to be near corroding. Then Waxoil. Brake discs and pads .., to spread the cost, I'd probably do them over the next few months. There's money to be saved there. Almost £400 is a lot when you consider that if you're doing the discs, then replacing the pads is about an extra handful of minutes. The oil sweat ? Before the car goes in for it's next MOT, get underneath, and wipe the oil sweats away.
  14. Don't worry about it, you'll soon be gone again.
  15. Don't think so. As described many times elsewhere..., in previous conflicts casualty figures coming out of Gaza have proven to be reasonably accurate. Secondly, as posted, with links, on this thread already..., What eventually transpired was that the hospital had reported hundreds of casualties. This went to Al Jazeera, who due to, as I recall, an error in dialect/translation, mistranslated 'casualties' as 'deaths'. This then got picked up by other mainstream media, and broadcast as such. The missile strike. I never followed this through to the end. However, it looked to me that the 'reports' blaming a Hamas/Islamic Jihad missile fault seemed to be emanating from Israel or US sources, who would say that anyway.
  16. I seem to recall that Charlie Munger's stated secret to a successful life wasn't so much about making great decisions. Rather, it was about avoiding the stupid decisions and courses of action. And reading and learning widely.
  17. There was a parting of ways between Waitrose, and Heston Blumenthal earlier this year. Waitrose said something like... wanting to 'go in a different direction'. Heston didn't say much, other than a rather terse comment about how he had wonderful new plans to get on with. I too loved those lemon mince pie things, my absolute favourite. They always shot off the shelves. I do recall, though, that last Christmas another Waitrose mince pie from Heston Blumental was some concoction of fig. These barely moved at all, a bit too much on the far side for most people, me included. I'm sure Waitrose must have been stuck with piles of these. Maybe that contributed to the parting.

  19. The only way it will have changed your life is if ..... 1. You have previously sold the things at a much higher price than you paid. or 2. You earn money by talking about how wonderful bitcoin is.. to people who want to know that. aka, grifting. Very noticeable you've only popped up here on an upswing in values. Tells its own story.
  20. All within the context that it's funny money being talked about.
