  1. I think you're very wrong. A prime minister who doesn't want to be seen anywhere near victims.Ministers who suddenly can't be found, and certainly decline to be questioned.....
  2. Looks to me like the government are just trying to front this out. And no mention by the interviewer Emily Maitliss in that interview.. of the raw anger of bereaved people. It really was the BBC in 'state broadcaster' mode. In the circumstances, few awkward questions were asked.
  3. In a technical sense you may be right. I think it's fairly obvious though that what is now on trial here is the umpteen years of deregulation, every cheapskate way of cutting costs so that bigger profits can be made, the labelling of poorer people as 'chavs'... do I need to go on ?
  4. There seems to be a massive difference in numbers between the number of people officially declared dead + numbers of those in hospital compared to the number that the building had capacity for. The number of persons being interviewed who've said... "I got out,,,,,," seems to be tiny. In my view Lily Allan is correct.., the news is being managed.
  5. Have you considering opening the door, and see what opens ?. I mean, it's summer so hardly a case of him taking one look at a -6 degrees February frozen wasteland outside, and thinking ".. bollocks to that...".
  6. I remember the day I first heard 'Gangsters' by the Specials played on the radio. Just about riveted me to the spot. I never did see them live. I hadn't been to any gigs since some fairly awful ones at Strathclyde students union in 1971/72. Fast forward to early 1980. I was working in Dublin, and went to see Madness. The place was almost pitch black, and heaving with bodies. I think 'Night Boat to Cairo' was in the charts. Green Onions being played over the PA. Then the sax riff of 'One Step beyond' blasted out, and it was on. Absolutely wonderful. Best gig I've ever been to. Saw Bad Manners around about then too, really good actually. And the support act for them was The Dolly Mixture, 3 girls who later featured in Captain Sensible's song, 'Happy Talk'. The girls didn't take kindly to the skinheads at the front of stage gobbing at them. I went to see Selecter playing in a pub in Weston super Mare about 10 years ago. They'd played an accoustic set at the Hammersmith Odeon, or Palais, a couple of days previously. Everyone knows their big hits.. 'Missing Words..', 'On my Radio' etc. However, I prefered the stuff on their second album.. 'Celebrate the Bullet'. The band broke up shortly afterwards. Here it is, the best Halloween song you'll ever hear.....
  7. Footballers are heroes to Ken Loach, whereas actors are part of his day job. He lives in Bath, and is involved with Bath City FC. A few years ago, he came down the 20 miles from Bath to the local village film society near where I live. He spoke, and answered questions before a showing of 'Looking For Eric'. Really enjoyable. He also described, how, during the Thatcher years when he found it virtually impossible to get his work shown, on TV or in cinemas, he took a job to direct a commercial for McDonalds, basically to put bread on the table. Very much one of the good guys.
  8. A Computer Called Leo - by Georgina Ferry The story behind the invention and development of the worlds first office computer. LEO = Lyons Electronic Office = Lyons Bakery, Lyons Tea Rooms. Next up, and currently reading.... This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate - by Naomi Klein
  9. 'Bout a year ago, I was driving home one Sunday.., Radio 4 on the radio. Some phone-in program where an expert answered questions about financial stuff. A lot of the questions were about pensions, and welfare. The expert was an adviser from what I understand is a reasonably respectable outfit, Hargreaves Lansdown. I particularly remember, after answering several questions, he came out with almost these exact words.... "To make this clear, no matter what you read in some newspapers, or hear from some politicians..., compared with other West European countries, the welfare, benefits and pensions systems in this country are frugal.." In my opinion, with half the country working multiple 'jobs', zero hours contracts, just to stay afloat, something major has to change.
  10. Ha. Cuff round the ear'ole keeps errant pup in its place.
  11. It just means you're a person of taste and musical discernment.
  12. Not really, just differing opinions. Stair Park is owned by the council, so I don't think that the Cock and Balls Arena is up for discussion at present.
  13. ".... Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium...." There's doing a deal with sponsors, and there's rolling over for them. Good to see our ex-team looking impressive for you, though.
  14. Think your biggest worry is likely to be whether you can make the step up. A full-time club, with more resources than most in League 1, scrapes home at the last gasp... Gibson has the class that Morton lacked last season.
  15. Do something which meets a need, and for which someone else is willing to pay.
