  1. Ghost in the Shell (1995)

Thought i would watch the original cartoons before taking in the Scarlet Johansen version - Still excellent after all these years, animation is still as good as anything that has come out since. As with any Sci-fi it has started to age as actual technology passes what was percieved as many years in advance (the little things like mobile phones, Wifi etc overtaking fixed lines..) but still very good, and current in its issues.

  2. One game in and already the Scotland tour has produced a standard of rugby way better than the lions have managed in 3. Granted the Nz provinces are probably better than Italy but at least they are trying to play rugby

  3. I think its more a case of Gray being kept fit for the Australia game than incase of a Lions call.

I would think the Australia game should see the strongest team we have, the other 2 are going to be 75% teams to give as many people as possible a start to get people used to how Toony wants the players to play. Im a bit suprised by the 6/2 split in the subs, I take it he is expecting it to be really warm and the forwards to be worn out.

  4. the format is like it is to keep the tournament down to 2 weeks, adding another game adds another 3 days, and is probably a bit unfair 3 knock out games to decide who gets relegated each year - although to be fair the big 10 probably will do something to change it when it starts to look like one of them might get relegated one year

  5. Looking at the tables I think 5-8 is the best we can aim for given the state of group C. A win over Italy (with a BP) could see us as seeded 5th (dependent on the Aus v Eng game) against either Italy again or the winners of Wales v Samoa, or 6th vs the loser of the Arg v SA.

A win in that game would see us seeded in the 2nd pot for the next U20 WC as we would finish 5th or 6th.

A lose against Italy without a losing BP could potentially put us into the relegation play off and end up losing our place in the Championship, although I cant see us losing 2 games.

  6. The pro12 have really been whoring themselves about to anyone with a bit of cash. A SA team could be a great addition it could potential be the best of SA not on international duty as the leagues are at different time's

  7. He's definitely stamped on his face but in his defence I dont think its accidental - ie its clumsy rather than malicious - to add even if it wasn't a red (which it was) already what was he thinking pushing him on his way off the pitch, that was really stupid

  8. I think the issue was last time GB had 3 chances to qualify (ie the ranking of either 3 countries was in the top 4) plus the other qualification routes. We only played as a GB squad in the European 7's at the end of the season - and this is pretty much 2nd tier stuff as the winner gets to enter the World 7's series qualifier in Hong Kong - we usually enter a development 7's each year rather than the full team.

If it was once every 4 years and we enter a GB team in 2 or 3 events in the lead up to the Olympics then I could handle that. A full season every 4 years would be pushing it for me, and full time no chance

  9. Couple from this week

Dread - karl Urban version (7/10)

Being vaguely aware of the comics, (ie haven't read but get the gist of the character etc) I thought it was played well, captured the atmosphere of Megacity well, and was a good watch as a futuristic cop movie. Only downsides were the 4 other judges seemed to not have enough back story or motivation, they just turned up for the money and Urban trying to pull stallone faces which I found a bit annoying

    The Great Wall. (6/10)

Visually looks stunning in terms of the wall, Beijing, the desert etc, the costumes for the chinese army, the creatures not so much. Story is proper scify channel sharknado teritory

Austin was a terrific wrestler. Just because he wasn't a guy rolling on the mat, doesn't mean he wasn't superior to most. He basically created an entire WWE main event style. Had all sorts of great matches from the early 90s right to the early 00s because he was good enough to work around limitations when they came around. Hogan was capable as well, if not great.

Hogan is a completely different breed though. And Austin can't really exist in today's world.

WWE's problem isn't the actual direction. It's that they don't HAVE an actual direction. Aiming a million different ways at once. The hardcores are getting turned off as well as everyone else, because WWE have no idea how to cater to everybody. They used to be able to do that. Many of WWE's better times were able to mix great wrestling with great characters. They don't have the latter anymore because the writers are inept for the most part.

And to say WWE's output is pure wrestling these days isn't the case. The weekly RAW is wall to wall nonsense stuff with a couple of long matches on it. Smackdown doesn't really get that, but Smackdown has ALWAYS been more wrestling orientated. That's never changed. Yet this year, that took over RAW in the ratings. Funny that.

EDIT: Worth noting that during WWE's boom on TV from 1997 - 1998, the in ring product was fucking brilliant a lot of the time. It IS possible to have a proper wrestling show and appeal to the casual fans as well. And then in 2000 - 2001 as well. What you're wanting from them now isn't possible. They don't have the guys coming through, and they don't have the writers good enough to make these great characters.

The writers and creative in general is pretty poor in WWE, and I think a lot of the issue lies with Vince. They dont let things grow organically and as soon as something starts to build momentum they try and ram i down your throat as much as possible. Its really a case of one the one hand they dont listen to the fans enough, and when they do they take it too far and it becomes complete overkill (im thinking fandango as an example - let people sing along  but we dont need lawler telling people to do the fandango constantly)

They also have a tendancy to take people that are over for some reason, then completely ignore the reason / dont give them a chance and they end up being forgotten about. case in point (and I accept their have been legal reasons) the broken Hardy's were over because of there antics in promo's etc, the actual wrestling was never great, but I dont think there has been one grean bean or a sighting of Senor Benjamin yet. All we have had is an odd maniacal laugh and a quick delete. Hopefully Ceasro and Sheamus break them so we can get a bit of entertainment.

Although to be fair it has been better of late with Styles and Joe not really changing too much when joining WWE. And granted it must be hard to come up with a gimmic that is both original and relevant as most things have been done to death

  11. I cold see the logic if the UK team had bombed at the olympics but we finished 2nd last time, why change the system. The issue last time was we picked the bulk of the England team who although good players were massively out of form in the 2nd half of the season compared to Scotland (who hit form) and Wales.

A better idea would be to keep things as they are but have an independent coach and selectors, maybe Ben Ryan (ex England and ex Fiji) who wouldn't be involved with the individal teams so doesn't have a bias. This would be a huge blow to Scottish rugby if it goes, although the SRU do have previous on this.

  12. Im sure the highlights from the Fiji game were on BBC or STV cant remember which, from what I remember it was just the tries (I think Visser on his first start for Scotland) in what was a relatively underwhelming game following the heroics of the week before to beat Australia in the pouring rain.

I thought we only played the 2 games on that tour, cant remember us playing Samoa.

  13. I would assume that it will be similar to the last tour to oz and Pacific, we will get coverage of the Oz game as its likely to be TV their and sky will have the rights probably. The other 2 games will be highlights at best or maybe a stream somewhere, unless a Singapore TV company decides to pick it the Italy game, the last Fiji game their was just highlights

  14. Speaking of appalling human rights. The Luzhniki stadium in Moscow which will host the 2018 World Cup final and the Confederations Cup is basically finished it's redevelopment getting rid of the track mainly.

In theory a pro 12 b would be a good thing although I would probably go for two leagues of 10 personally. Promotion relegation playoff between them. But realistically I can't see it.

With the pro 12 now I personally think bringing the exiles in for the Italians would be a better all round option for boosting the league. The other option I think the SRU should maybe take advantage of is the looming collapse of the italians. Should Italy lose both teams and an American franchise comes in I think the SRU should revive a third pro team. Just to get it in the league. I would expect them to be under strength and finish near the bottom for the first few seasons but I think Scottish rugby is generally on the up. Maybe it's time.

I think the issue of a Pro12 b would be that it would not get the media coverage required and the sponsorship / tv deals / finance wouldn't be their to support it. The main purpose of it being to get the Georgians, Spanish & Germans up to tier 1 level, and to give development time to younger players it probabaly wouldn't work with some decent money behind it.

There has always been talk of bring in the exiles but would they want to be part of the Pro12?

On the scottish pro league i beleive it was jst the case of giving the 8 best teams (although with stadia criteria) a set amount of money each year to pay players, and also dish out the institute of sport / surplus Glasgow & edinburgh teams to a smaller number of teams, hence building the quality. I believe the money available though has been spent on giving the 2 teams bigger budgets, which would have to be cut significantly to fund either a 3rd pro team or a pro league.

  16. There has been rumblings off a 3rd team for quite a while, and it would be quite welcome to boost the available pro playing pool as we dont have enough players getting regular game time. The last I heard there was some discussion on how the money would be best spent between a 3rd team (which would be largely self sufficent / require a partner / lean heavily on institute of sport for players) or spreading the money to professionalise the scottish league with 8 teams. I think the 2nd option is better, and they should look at getting the teams involved in the British Isle cup and the continental shield gives a minimum of 24 games a season.

On the 3rd point, not heard anything on the Challenge cup, other than the Continental Shield countries are pushing for greater involvement. The main aim is to relegate the 2 worst teams in the Cup to the Shield, however the Top 14, Pro 12 and EP are not going to drop a team to the Shield to give an extra place to Russia / Romania / Spain etc

Edit to add - I have heard some talk to a Pro12 div B with promotion and relegation which would give places to Georgia, Spain, US, Canada, Romania etc but would also have additional Welsh region and another Scottish team, but the latest on trying to reduce Italy to 1 team and adding in the team in Houston probably puts a block on that.

  17. It kicks in at the end of 2020. But players that sign before that could be eligible after 3 years by the wording of it. It won't stop the drain of the Pacific Islands as Australia, France and England will still bring players over to academys at a young age. It might keep the white South African players that won't get called up to the international side n South Africa

Just been reading up, from the sound of it any player signing this year is OK to serve 3 years but from 2018 you need 5 years. I can see a few panic moves over the summer

I wouldn't say it reflects badly on anyone tbf... These boys are, for the most part, good players! Three of last years group are playing at Annan (Raffi Krissian, Jean Guy Lucas & Tony Riberio) and one is at Glacis United in the Gibraltar Premier Division (Yves Nyami)... Albeit this is a small number but, a few have come back for a second year and a few will have gone to other clubs so I'd say they will be working to a success!

Maybe didn't word it properly, but my point being that that there has been plenty of comment on how this looks bad on Scottish football, they're not a proper club etc but at the end of the day this is what a proper pyramid should be. Anyone should be able to start a team, playing on council pitch with your mates, and be able to aim at making the Premiership.

Granted Edusport are charging a fair wedge for the priveledge, but fair play to them. I always think its sour grapes / jealousy from fans of clubs who have been unable to achieve anything for however many years, that someone has started a team and managed to get into the Lowland League

  19. in other news, the residency laws have been changed from 3 to 5 years. Not sure when it kicks in, or if it is a phased approach, although would have thought Kebble will be our last project signing, unless we start poaching kids at 18 or 19
