  1. Would describe it in stronger terms than f**k over to be honest.

He gave him up to a skinhead gang, completely broke him by telling him the woman he loved could've been saved from a horrible death, then sent to him away to be tortured and he assumed murdered.

    That's pretty bad form

the meth business is a man's game.

jesse is a murderous, poison dealing scumbag. he deserves everything that coming to him.

he also can't complain about being locked up with nazis when he was basically volunteering for that when he confessed all his crimes to hank.

  2. No they didn't get him, but USADA have basically accepted it was their own fault, make of it what you will.

by the looks of it was their fault. by the time the testers got to the other hotel his whereabouts hour was over and he was gone.

surely he would have been tested at the end of the stage so i don't see what they would have to gain by doing this test anyway?

  3. Oh, and can anyone REALLY say they're rooting for Walt after that? Although his final act with Holly was the act of a good man shining through.

he didn't do anything bad during that episode other than f**k over jesse and he deserves it anyway.

the phone call was to make sure the police can't do anything to skylar, he was making sure that if they try to prosecute her she has cast iron evidence that she was coerced.

  4. But what in the name of f**k is going on here? A man who has never done anything significant in any Grand Tour, has had piss all form all season and never looked to be a serious contender is suddenly riding some of the best stage racers in the world off his wheel. All this at the age of 42.

he's been watching for the past 12 months and decided to do what everyone else is doing only do more of it and with absolutely no shame (getting banned is nothing when your 42).

there wasn't one positive in the tour, it's fair to say that the cheats are miles ahead of the testers at the moment.

  5. I take from all the memes Walt Jr is constantly talking about breakfast? I've completely missed this.

To go back to a discussion from a few pages back I am definitely team Walt here at the expense of any and everyone else. I reckon Gomes will die at the start of this next one with Hank and Jesse becoming hostages with one or both killed by the end.

Judging by other comments on this thread I must be the only one irritated by Jesse? apart from the odd couple of episodes here and there in each season he seems to be forever bitching and moaning, walking around like a zombie or off his face. I get that he is the so called Moral compass of the show but the guy has had numerous opportunities to walk away from it all with money in his hands and never takes them, I personally hope Mr White takes him out in the next episode after telling him what really happened to his old girlfriend. However Jesse seems to Walt's weak point business wise and its caused him no end of trouble I wouldn't be shocked to see that continue.

I think it's great that with three to go there is no obvious way this is going to play out, that's a real strength of the show.

he's not got time to talk about breakfast due to the fact that he is always too busy scranning it, the boy loves pancakes.

the fact that jesse has no interest in whether he will be in jail (with the nazi prison) gang for the rest of his days is slightly frustrating for me.

  6. It's just getting silly now, & is really destroying any faith people may have built up this season.

Why don't guys like this just fcuk off?

He's never shown anything like this sort of form in his whole career & he's consistently blowing one of the best two current riders out the back.

    built up faith this season?

the doping has been (predictably) out of hand since sky raised the bar at the tour last year. we've been watching crazy performances all year, old man horner is just the cherry on the cake.

it's actually a shame that horner has overshadowed kiriyenka's 50km solo break which was ridiculous in itself.

happy that i'll never visit iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Here's some news that has law enforcement officials and lawmakers scratching their heads:

Iowa is granting permits to acquire or carry guns in public to people who are legally or completely blind.

No one questions the legality of the permits. State law does not allow sheriffs to deny an Iowan the right to carry a weapon based on physical ability.

The quandary centers squarely on public safety. Advocates for the disabled and Iowa law enforcement officers disagree over whether it's a good idea for visually disabled Iowans to have weapons.

On one side: People such as Cedar County Sheriff Warren Wethington, who demonstrated for The Des Moines Register how blind people can be taught to shoot guns. And Jane Hudson, executive director of Disability Rights Iowa, who says blocking visually impaired people from the right to obtain weapon permits would violate the Americans with Disabilities Act. That federal law generally prohibits different treatment based on disabilities

On the other side: People such as Dubuque County Sheriff Don Vrotsos, who said he wouldn't issue a permit to someone who is blind. And Patrick Clancy, superintendent of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, who says guns may be a rare exception to his philosophy that blind people can participate fully in life.

Private gun ownership - even hunting - by visually impaired Iowans is nothing new. But the practice of visually impaired residents legally carrying firearms in public became widely possible thanks to gun permit changes that took effect in Iowa in 2011.

"It seems a little strange, but the way the law reads we can't deny them (a permit) just based on that one thing," said Sgt. Jana Abens, a spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's Department, referring to a visual disability.

Polk County officials say they've issued weapons permits to at least three people who can't legally drive and were unable to read the application forms or had difficulty doing so because of visual impairments.

And sheriffs in three other counties - Jasper, Kossuth and Delaware - say they have granted permits to residents who they believe have severe visual impairments.

"I'm not an expert in vision," Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere said. "At what point do vision problems have a detrimental effect to fire a firearm? If you see nothing but a blurry mass in front of you, then I would say you probably shouldn't be shooting something."

    Training the visually impaired

In one Iowa county, blind residents who want weapons would likely receive special training.

Wethington, the Cedar County sheriff, has a legally blind daughter who plans to obtain a permit to carry when she turns 21 in about two years. He demonstrated for the Register how he would train blind people who want to carry a gun.

"If sheriffs spent more time trying to keep guns out of criminals' hands and not people with disabilities, their time would be more productive," Wethington said as he and his daughter took turns practice shooting with a semi-automatic handgun on private property in rural Cedar County.

The number of visually impaired or blind Iowans who can legally carry weapons in public is unknown because that information is not collected by the state or county sheriffs who issue the permits.

Clancy, superintendent of the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, said the range of sight among people who are classified as legally blind varies greatly. He believes there are situations where such applicants can safely handle a gun.

    However, he also expressed concerns.

"Although people who are blind can participate fully in nearly all life's experiences, there are some things like the operation of a weapon that may very well be an exception," Clancy said.

The Gun Control Act of 1968 and other federal laws do not prohibit blind people from owning guns. But unlike Iowa, some states have laws that spell out whether visually impaired people can obtain weapon permits.

Vision requirements are either directly or indirectly part of the weapon permit criteria in some surrounding states.

In Nebraska, for example, applicants for a permit to carry a concealed handgun must provide "proof of vision" by either presenting a valid state driver's license or a statement by an eye doctor that the person meets vision requirements set for a typical vehicle operator's license.

Other states have indirect requirements that could - but don't automatically - disqualify people who are blind. That includes Missouri and Minnesota, where applicants must complete a live fire test, which means they have to shoot and hit a target.

A 50-state database of gun permit requirements published by USACarry.com also shows that South Carolina has a law that requires proof of vision before a person is approved for a weapons permit.

Wisconsin, like Iowa, has no visual restrictions on gun permit applicants. Illinois lawmakers enacted a concealed weapons law in July but permits have not yet been issued. Illinois' qualifications don't specifically require a visual test, but applicants must complete firearms training that includes range instruction.

The National Federation of the Blind does not track states that require vision tests as part of weapon permit processes and has not taken an official stand on the issue. But its members are generally opposed to such laws, said Chris Danielsen, director of public relations for the group.

"There's no reason solely on the (basis) of blindness that a blind person shouldn't be allowed to carry a weapon," Danielsen said. "Presumably they're going to have enough sense not to use a weapon in a situation where they would endanger other people, just like we would expect other people to have that common sense."

Iowa requires training for anyone who is issued a permit to carry a weapon in public, but that requirement can be satisfied through an online course that does not include any hands-on instruction or a shooting test.

A provision in Iowa's law allows sheriffs to deny a permit if probable cause exists to believe that the person is likely to use the weapon in such a way that it would endanger themselves or others. Many sheriffs noted, however, that the provision relates to specific documented actions, and applicants who appealed their cases would likely win.

Hudson, executive director of Disability Rights Iowa, believes changing the state law to deny blind people or others with physical disabilities the right to carry arms would violate federal disabilities law.

Part of the Americans with Disabilities Act requires a public entity to conduct an individualized analysis to make a reasonable judgment before denying a service. Hudson believes someone could successfully challenge Nebraska's proof of vision requirement as illegal.

"The fact that you can't drive a car doesn't mean you can't go to a shooting range and see a target," Hudson said.

  8. So people can't come here to see what people thought of it before they go and watch it themselves? It's not difficult to put something in spoilers, hardly "asking the world to fit round one persons schedule".

    aye it is.

spoliers aren't things that happened in a tv show. spoilers are things that happened in a tv show that hasn't aired in the uk yet.

  9. there were katusha and movistar doms pacing the early bits of the climb but horner's performance is still off the charts. much like froome on the alpe people are talking about nibali being weak despite his performance on paper being brilliant.

we all knew this was going to happen post tour 2012. the arms race is well and truly on.

  10. So we can safely assume that after 5 and a half years everyone on this forum has watched the Wire? Some folk on the last page saying that they were on season 3 and this plum's just ruined the entire 5th season for anyone who hasn't yet got that far.

The Sopranos finished in 2007, I've still not got round to watching that.

if you've not watched a show that finished five and a half years ago and don't want to be spoiled then don't come on the bloody thread!

expecting the whole world to fit in around your schedule is ridiculous when it's current media, when it's something that has been off air since 2008 it's utterly pathetic.

  11. jesse's lack of interest in what is going to happen to him once walt is locked up and charged with his crimes is rather confusing.

i was hoping the nazis were just going to kidnap walt and forced him to cook by threatening to murder his family when he came to them asking them to kill jesse. that's what i would have done.

  12. 1Q84 - Murakami

Was a bit disappointed by this. There are moments of brilliance in there but overall it felt bloated and in the end I didn't really care about what happened to the characters. I think with the way he plots his novels (basically nothing happens and there are no satisfactory conclusions) it is hard to sustain the interest over such a long book. It works in Wind Up Bird Chronicle but not this. Not really sure why - would be interested to hear what anyone else who's read it thinks.

Wind Up Bird Chronicle and Kafka at the Shore I both remember being excellent, hope I don't go back to them and feel the same way :(

1Q84 is a lot slower than his other novels but that reflects the subject matter. i thought the book was about japanese people becoming disconnected from society and family life which is why there are so many scenes which are nothing but the one of the three POV characters sitting in a room by themselves and so many instances of repetition. the book is about the unhealthy nature and danger of solitary existence.

tengo is estranged from his father and is having an affair with a married woman, aomame's family are cultists and she has no healthy relationships and the private detective is divorced and a terrible father. tengo and aomame escape 1Q84 by creating a family.

i don't agree with your assesment of nothing happening in wind up bird. the middle section flashback to WW2 is one of the most astonishing things i've ever read and the book overall is about the nature of right wing japanese nationalism which is shown explicitly in the 1930s and 1940s sections and linked to the politician brother in law in the shadow world.

  13. I still found myself feeling sympathy for Walt extending the olive branch with genuine trust. In fairness without Jesse, there would have been no Heisenburg and through everything they've been through, it's no surprise that Walt doesn't like the idea of offing him even as a last resort.

I can't blame Jesse for being suspicious in that moment either has he really has been burnt too many times that you could argue Walt had already burnt that bridge over time, considering I can't remember him being totally straight with Jesse since season 3.

i think walt's 'concern' for jesse was/is less genuine concern than an attempt at rationalising his actions to himself. if hank and jesse are still off limits then he can kid himself on that he is a good guy and only doing what needs to be done.

you see similar attempts at justification in the sopranos and the wire. tony has himself convinced that they are soldiers fighting a war and in the wire horrible things are written off as 'part of the game'.

  14. I think 'the job' Walt refers to with Todds uncle isn't Jesse or Hank. I reckon he is going to try and stage his own death. Perhaps use Sauls guy to disappear and go into hiding (would link in with the season 5 opener with him on his own on his birthday)

he has to fall out with multiple people before he leaves though or else why would he have a machine gun?

it seems to be too late to introduce any more characters so i think it's fairly certain that we'll see walt and his 'leetel friend' go on the rampage against the nazis.

  15. my predictions going forward....

jesse's comment about hurting him 'where he lives' obviously doesn't relate to his house, or his family because that's not jesse's style. he is probably going to try and ruin the heisenberg reputation. i think we'll see jesse making shite meth (with hank and gomez assisting) and ruining the 'brand' to draw walt out.

this will draw walt back into the lab with lydia, todd and the nazi uncles. walter and the nazis will fall out which is why he is going back with the machine gun.

'the lamberts' will be safely set up in their new life provided by saul's guy and walt will return to take out the nazis (possibly as revenge for them killing jesse and hank). the final scene will be walter sitting beside the pool smoking the ricin cigarette.

  16. I didn't like season 2 at first but it really grew on me. Ziggy really did my tits in but he has some great moments in that season.

Also, Half Rice Half Chips - use spoilers, you complete fud.

the show has been off air for 5 and a half years.

    spoilers are out the window.

  17. Skylenberg to one side for a moment, I thought that Hank writing off Jesse as collateral damage showed him to be every bit as amoral as Walt. A possible twist might be that Walt's call to Meth Damon was in fact about Hank, rather than Jesse, although I don't see it personally.

jesse has presumably just told hank about all the people they killed, you can't blame hank for not caring about what happens to him.

besides jesse is by any measure one of the thickest characters to ever appear on a tv show. confess all your horrible crimes to two DEA officers on tape without every inquiring what will happen after you take mr white down, what a douchebag.

And he very obviously cares about Jesse, and there was another example of it this week. The very idea of Jesse being killed nearly had him strangling folk.

until he phoned up todd to request that his nazi uncles murder him?
