I didnt think he said anything too controversial. But by the same token he didnt say anything that had me applauding.

    He's a businessman and a football chairman.

I wouldnt expect his politics to mirror mine just because he is a Motherwell fan.

Not too sure why he would go on to be honest, other than the fee if there is one.

The whole programme was a bit meh.

    Fair summation.

He was invited on as local representative - I believe Mr Burrows had previous offers to do same.

Where I think he missed a trick… He could have at least mentioned the good work our club/community trust do to try and tackle some of the issues raised on the show?

    Suppose it makes sense.

Reserve league organisation shambles aside if Kettlewell is running a smaller squad then it would be fairly difficult for us to field a regular reserve team and regular u18 CAS team that doesnt overlap a fair bit. So we may be think the U18s are best served in the CAS games rather than the reserves.

We will though have a handful of overage players sat on the bench regularly not getting a full 90 week to week so you'd think we will organise games seperately.

Dundee Utd seem to be doing similar: https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/dundee-united/4607563/dundee-united-spfl-reserve-league-jim-goodwin/

Definitely makes sense except to one club director who claimed “because we’ve too many players” when questioned recently…

Our under 18’s forming the reserve side is an age old problem - weeks are spent preparing, playing & recovery over time being coached.. think most would back the clubs’ fresh approach.

Kettlewell added: “We have to move some players out before we can move anybody in, so we’ve been actively trying to do that.

Crikey still banging that drum. Have to believe we have some leeway now. If we genuinely cannot bring in any players till we move some more players out than we are well and truly fecked 🤷‍♂️.

I saw someone say that Obika might be injured again. No knowledge whether that is true or not. We could maybe play Mugabi up front v East Fife, but to go into the league season with so few forward options is a red flag. Someone would have to sign up and be available for training from Monday latest to be available for league opener even assuming they are fit enough. I have to think we have had a few knock backs along the way, but it is a bit of a mess up front.

Would still take Steven Fletcher but since our budget left is apparently 2 bubblies I assume that he would be looking for more.

Is that what he’s saying though? Players having to move out isn’t the barrier those being brought in that some think.

Manager has been open about non contributions. If you are taking him literally it really is a numbers game with squad numbers he wishes to work with.

With regards to the physicality though, I rarely watch him and think that he is struggling with it? He was excellent against Inverness in the cup earlier on the season. I think he uses his size very well. Certainly a lot better than Shields does, who's built like the side of a house.

He is criminally under used IMO.

No issue with size or physicality. Disagree with the general point.

Inverness were poor, really poor & all it took was energy. We decided to stick with that against teams a yard quicker in pace and thought.

Just feel he’s a little one dimensional, turning defenders in our league is the easy part - for a ‘10’ doesn’t go beyond the striker often enough nor play the telling pass when finding the pockets of space he picks up.

Any murmurings about whether he impressed in Holland and  he could develop into the real deal?

Hard to gauge. I was there for the Tuesday game where he appeared for the second half. All about minutes in the legs so don’t really look past that.

I have though seen him lead the line in top tier of West of Scotland league earlier this year & would suggest no better than our development players. Not to say he can’t succeed taking the unorthodox route, just feel some need to realise the step up is massive.

Will fowler be near the first team?

Granted, I know nothing about him, aside from quite a prolific season last year.

Well he’ll be 22 in a few months so he’s too old to be kicking about the youth team.

I imagine he’ll just be the equivalent of Robinson signing a Newell or a Manzinga or even Alexander signing Amaluzor. A cheap punt basically. A project player with some raw ability that we think we might be able to mould into a player.

If we can, we’ve won a watch. If not, we’ll release him and I’m sure the lad will find his level- plus he’ll surely be a better player for having a year of full time football under his belt.

I can’t see him making much of an impact coming straight from the juniors but you never know I suppose, Kettlewell obviously must see something in him.

Unlikely. Farmed out on loan the general consensus. Raith Rovers mooted as a destination based on nothing more than they’ve registered interest in the player.

See, that entirely makes sense because we've not replaced either (AFAIK).

Say what you like about Burrows but his job prior to stepping down was CEO not head of comms. Like, I'd imagine he took on some of Grant's role but it'd have been on top of his actual job and I'm sure that wasn't the only stuff he was being asked to cover.

Anyway, a friendly reminder that the vacancy for Head of Digital, Brand and Communications was first advertised on 1st March 2022 (and it really is an all timer):

    https://www.motherwellfc.co.uk/2022/03/01/vacancy-head-of-digital-brand-and-communications/

It's definitely pitched to a very specific type of candidate...

Would Media & Communications Executive be a different role? Just going from LinkedIn earlier this month with promotion from within.

The last home game against St Mirren, Sat in the main stand watching him factually getting rag dolled by O'hara.

Like I say, not how I recall it. Stuck to his task and nullified O’Hara where other teams had failed. Not the only pivotal action of our team in Kettlewell’s first match.

O’Hara won’t have the chance to body him next season at anyrate.

Some of the games he spent more time trying to pull his hair over his receiding hairline than actually get stuck in, St Mirren when O'Hara bo ragged him the whole game springs to him. Not that fussed, if he's off tbh.

When was this? O’Hara had to get out his back pocket to get in the dressing room is my recollection.

I get he’s not rated by some who aren’t decision makers but, at least keep it factual.

If we get anything that is a bonus. We’ll fan and all that and I wish him nothing but the best.

Genuinely curious as to where he will end up. He was not 1st choice with us and easy to see why. Lots of endeavour and passion but for me well behind Slattery, Goss and Spittal in the pecking order.

I hope he comes good, but the fact there is a team out there prepared to pay us several years training compensation is to me quite surprising 🤷‍♂️

Not 1st choice? Think Mr Kettlewell will have a difference of opinion. Behind Slattery? Yet, Slattery only retained his place after securing the point at Kilmarnock and when Dean picked up an injury pre-split fixtures.

Don't think his influence in our upturn can be understated. Certainly gave two you mentioned the platform to improve.

Dare say there’s a few variables on why he sees his chance to progress is away from the club. It’s up to those tasked to develop better the much lauded next batch rather than pay the process lip service.

Think some are getting caught up in the compensation issue. Myriad of ways it’s handled.

  11. Look, there’s a place for both forums.

The Heavy Hands, Empty Stands thread - I’ll own what I’ve said on there. Everything could be backed up & it finished yesterday with some sport if you like. Passionate subject. I’m not involved, but, get it/them. it’s the lack of understanding  of the demographic of that section of support and Bois/pyro bad, holier than thou/über fans good that spurred response.

Anyways, learned a lesson here a few months back on differing opinions so took stock.

The nudge-nudge, wink-wink accusations keep getting levelled. I post in a certain way, much to the displeasure of some. I make no apology for that, but, think most generally do understand why, there’s plenty on both forums who know me could concur.

I’m told the Facelessbook pages are off the scale with wild takes.

As with all of our academy graduates (this one via Hibs), I really want to see Dean progress and cement a first team place. However, i'm left feeling a bit underwhelmed watching him sometimes as he makes himself look busy as if he's about to put himself about but puts on the breaks at the last minute

He's got the second highest number of appearances (9) from the bench (Tierney -11). Probably brought on to inject some energy late on in games. Needs to make more of his chances.

As for the link to PNE, i can't see it.

    It’s called following instructions.

Please tell me in your infinite wisdom who should have been MOM. Then we can all agree, because clearly what you say is to go unchallenged as you are the wise one amongst our support.

I can be condescending at times. I know that but you take it to a different level 🙈

Honestly? It’s a difference of opinion & not expected to go unchallenged. Nobody proclaiming wisdom and your claim to the contrary is churlish at best.

MOTM? It’s not a favoured subject but, for me it was Goss. Was unsure in the thinking of moving him inside but, that was the platform for control of the second half aided by adding energy from Cornelius.

Thoughts on McGinn? Painfully slow, not the strong nor reliable defender he’s been made out as & has offered nothing going forward. He does though suit the instruction to shell the ball forward that O’Donnell disagreed with. Recruitment team played a blinder trailing this one since January…

  14. 1 hour ago, welldaft said:

I thought McGinn was our MOM by a country mile and easy to see why he has been favoured over SODs. Did not think SODs played that well today but you could add the names of Mugabi, Spittal, Maguire, Shields and Tierney to that list. Maguire is a home grown talent but by Christ he is average at best and should only start if we have bugger all options. Cornelius is a much better, option imho.

Wild take #2. McGinn? Wish I’d taken a drink today.

What happened to the young boy last week was beyond the pale even allowing for the fact he may have been acting the fanny.

BUT….they stopped the game when we were 1-0 down and we’re trying to get back into the game. Had a direct impact on there being 6 minutes of injury time. St J scored 4 minutes into injury time. Not the Well bois fault we are a powderpuff team at the moment, but even a halfwit could see they had an impact on the eventual outcome of this game.

Shouldn't really need explained, but the game would have had the same amount of football played whether the fans protested or not, that's how stoppage time works. So claiming an impact of the eventual outcome because of it is simply false.

    Naysayers?

I’ve said on more than one occasion that I think they deserve credit for what they bring to games. That doesn’t mean they get a free reign though. Against Sligo they brought religion into their songs, and then today they hurl shite onto the pitch which gets the game paused when we’re on the ascendency and then continue to hurl shite when Kelly is over trying to clear the pitch. No “tapping into subjects” or claims of being “an über fan” here, just stating that to me (and seemingly also a large proportion of the rest of the Hunter) they looked like daft wee boys.

But that’s the beauty of an online forum I suppose, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. No knowledge of the event from last week you mention, feel free to divulge details if it helps us misinformed fans get on board.

You win. Hardly crimes of the century, the mock outrage from some though is beyond the pale.

What was this all about? I couldn't see from where I was sitting.

Backlash from an event last week from what I seen.

Certainly worked to effect but, not to the liking of some, especially the fella sat around the 140 ish mark around 4/5 rows from the back. That’s two home fixtures he’s spent roundly booing and it just makes you think football isn’t the spectator sport for him.
