They don’t need a reason, we’re not talking about the best society has to offer here.

Not condoning the throwing of objects at all, looked like the overrated kid spat into the crowd.

Spare me the über fan shit also. Tapping into a subject you know little of.

Questions need to be asked of the inefficient stewarding also.

Aye - someone was going daft because he wasn't checked - his "logic" being if he didn't see it happening, there were no checks, full stop. Flow did the old fashioned "facts" thing but the boy was having none of it.

For the record, I had my vaccine passport checked outside the East Stand, so by his logic - everyone's was.

His claim “I’m the biggest supporter of our club as you know” was a particular highlight.

Him and his Mrs are founding members of our Twitter groupies. Social media has a lot to answer for…

Yep, and Tony defintley has had discussions about a contract extension. It happened prior to his deal being arranged to go down south in August. Not sure if the discussions have been picked up since that fell through but the club aren't just sitting on their hands forgetting he's out of contract.

Seen a few of late. I’d question validity of those comments.

Does this not also come back to us being completely unable to accommodate Grimshaw and Maguire in the same team? You'd hope if you have only one of them we can get a grip but with Slattery next to two empty jerseys on Saturday we gave Adam the whole of Dundee to roam about in.

Completely unable? What were their instructions? Neither were told to man mark by the looks of it.

Grimshaw in all fairness was hung out to dry on the left of a 3.

Dundee doubled up in wide areas fed by Adams spraying the balls which exposed our narrow set up. Stop that at source? Suspect we’d have had a more positive outcome.

In fairness to Alexander, while a lot of his tactical stuff has been pretty marmite, in terms of Saturday his absolute seethe post-match seems to be in part that he pretty much asked the players to set up and play in exactly the same way as they did against Hearts and they just didn't do it.

It's broadly corroborated by Kelly that the instructions they were given weren't any different to the previous week:

Therein lies the problem for me… learned little from two previous encounters.
I can understand him asking the players to deliver same, there has to be cognisance of each opponent though - stands someone on Charlie Adam and we gain a foothold on that game.

Yeah, we did at the Aberdeen game.  The section of the PO'D stand closest to the Cooper was the Covid Section, where fans could choose to swap their usual seat to sit there, which was a bit more spacious.

That’s not a red zone by current definition. The red zone is created to allow player movement within a stadium as seen v Aberdeen on Saturday. Earlier games had the opposition move downstairs and enter pitch level from the side of the South Stand.

After all the talk and suspense of taking more time to get quality signings in, and noting that Goss' contract expired at the end of the season, there's definitely a feel to it that perhaps a primary target has been missed and he is one from the alternatives list.

As with most, my knowledge of him is limited, but of the bits I have seen my initial reaction is very much meh, much like the Rangers and St Johnstone fans before us.

Anyway, all the best to him and hopefully he can come in and kick on.

He’s been training/trialling with others, perhaps a case of waiting our turn?

Right this is really, really fucking dull but to the point of recruitment, no judgement on whether it's been good or not but here's a list of players we've either been linked with (vaguely or otherwise...in one very specific case completely made up) or reported to have had in on trial or have signed.

For the most part it's just names lifted from scrolling through Viva Motherwell's timeline but...it's quite a list (Confirmed signings in bold, trialists in italics):

    • Sondre Solholm Johansson (Mjøndalen) (DF)
    • Sofian Feghouli (Galatasaray S.K) (MF)
    • Robbie Gotts (Leeds) (MF)
    • Juhani Ojala (Vejle) (DF) - signed (2 yr)
    • Marc McNulty (Reading) (FW) - signed for Dundee United
    • Calum Slattery (Southampton) (MF) - signed (3 yr)
    • Mich'el Parker (Free Agent) (MF) - signed - trialist (6 month)
    • Liam Kelly (QPR) (GK) - signed - loan made permanent (3 yr)
    • Kevin Van Veen (Free Agent) (ST) - signed - played for Alexander at Scunthorpe (2 yr)
    • Ash Taylor (Free Agent) (DF) - Signed for Walsall
    • Pawel Zuk (Free Agent) (DF) - trialist
    • Josh McPake (Rangers) (FW) - signed for Morecambe
    • Jamie Ness (Free Agent) (MF) - trialist - played for Alexander at Scunthorpe
    • Tom King (Free Agent) (GK) - trialist -signed for Salford
    • Darragh O'Conner (Free Agent) (DF) - trialist - signed (1 yr)
    • Shayon Harrison (Free Agent) (ST) - trialist - signed for Morecambe - scouted by Nick Daws for AFC Wimbledon
    • Joe Muscatt (Free Agent) (DF/MF) - trialist - played for Alexander at Salford
    • Kaiyne Woolery (Free Agent) (FW) - signed (3 yr)
    • Justin Amaluzor (Free Agent) (FW) - trialist - signed (1 yr)
    • Luke McCormick (Chelsea) (MF) - signed for AFC Wimbledon
    • Ethan Robson (Blackpool) (MF) - signed for MK Dons (I refuse to believe this was a real link given the teams quoted as being interested were Rangers, us and MK Dons)
    • Louis Moult (Free Agent) (ST) - signed for Burton Albion
    • Kyle Lafferty (Free Agent) (ST) - signed for Anorthosis Famagusta - played with Alexander at Burnley
    • Ben Heneghan (AFC Wimbledon) (DF) - signed by Nick Daws for AFC Wimbledon
    • Connor Shields (pre-contract QoTS) (ST) - signed (3 yr)

25 names. Dunno, it genuinely doesn't feel like we've been quoted with an interest in as many as that.

    Some interesting takes… clock ticking

There's an argument that that probably gets more out of SOD as well. with the 343/352 against Annan, the 4231 that seems to have been our Plan B and the 433 it feels like Alexander's been bouncing things around to see what, if anything, works.

Based on the players we have available that 343/352 is probably the one with most players in their natural positions.

3 at the back currently would be folly given there is zero pace.

Think the rank and file should stop overthinking.  4-2-3-1? Just variations of 4-3-3 and 4-5-1 all which we’ve deployed given passages of play. It takes each unit working to bear fruit - we’re miles off that be it players, instructions & requirement to strengthen.

Haha you can't stand O'Hara eh?

Just don’t get the hype. Offers little defensively having less discipline to protect the back 4 than those selected in front of him. Offensively? I’ve got it, some of our support’s penchant for those that run about a lot - when in reality he doesn’t  get us moving up the park at any rate and incapable of any creativity.

Glad to have O’hara back. He’s no world beater but is a useful player who’ll give us a few options to rotate the midfield. I imagine GA wouldn’t have had Donnelly playing as much as he has so far for example.

Genuinely interested as to how some base their thoughts on Mark O’Hara. Useful at what? You’re correct, he’s no world beater - is the midfield to be rotated just for fitness or offer improvement? I’m not quite sure Alexander would agree with your closing statement either - Crawford was regularly favoured over O’Hara when fit last season.

I see that's the bold Jon Obika saying we made a "late" bid for him.

In terms of timeline he was announced at Morecambe on 29th June, we announced van Veen on 2nd July although the Scunthorpe fan-site Iron Bru who first mentioned he was up here published their 'exclusive' on 23rd June.

In that respect it doesn't feel an either/or situation.

If it's the choice between Obika or big Kev then give me Budget Bergkamp all day, every day.

However do I think the squad, as it stands, could use an Obika-type? Absolutely.

The same Jon Obika who we passed up on before then reckoned Manzinga was a better option?

Hateley's Law states: In any given Motherwell team, one player must always be deemed "shite"

Also, I fear that Grimmy is about to be subject to Dom's Law: The less appearances a player makes, the better they become.

I don’t buy that at all. We certainly have missed his energy that pushed us up the park more so than we’re capable of just now.

Filled in at right back with relative success, I wouldn’t be surprised if Alexander sees him returning in a midfield role…
