  1. Durnan and Hall were fine once M and M came in and Buchanan dropped out. Our problem last season, wasn’t scoring enough goals.

Scored the most goals and conceded the least in the league last year. Our problem was partially losing every single game to Clyde, but mainly not doing it in the games against Airdrie and Raith, our ‘rivals’. That mentality has to change next year.
  2. FWIW I wouldn’t have chosen Miller and McCracken (as rookies) to have replaced McKinnon. However to judge them solely on their January transfer business seems a little harsh. January a much more difficult window to get players in and out, and it was their first window as managers. Don’t think Yogi even got it right in his first window as manager.

They should be judged on this seasons recruitment however.

  3. It was mainly due to our continued playing of two holding midfield players in the middle of the park.  There's been zero creativity or goals in there. I'd say if we'd had a boy in there who weighed in with ten goals last season we would be in the championship now.

We barely got goals apart from one striker last year, never mind 10 from central midfield.

Miller and Grant can work. Your attacking play can come from wide midfielders, full backs and strikers.

I’m not saying we have to play this way, but it would not be a travesty should they sign and play this way, provided other areas in the team are taken care of. Time will tell.
  4. We need someone with goals in them beside miller.  Miller averages one goal a season and Grant is the same. Watching them would see the same problems we've seen the last two seasons.

The reason we got relegated, and then failed to get promoted, wasn’t down to central midfield players not scoring enough goals.
  5. People complaining about signing Grant would be the same people complaining about a lack of suitable replacements in centre mids.

Grant would be a great signing. Preferably alongside Miller with Gomis being an impact sub later on in the game to keep the ball ticking when we are (hopefully) ahead vs tired legs.

  6. Fasan is the worst full time footballer I've ever seen. He was literally worth more than a goal a game to the opposition on average due to horrific errors. I think we could've played an outfield player in goals and we'd probably have seen less mistakes directly leading to goals.

Agreed. Think people are clouded by their hatred of Lewis that they think he’s the worst. Fasan definitely the worst.

We're supposed to be looking for a Director of Football and he's available

His signings whilst being director of football have ultimately help kept St Mirren up despite their issues with managers over the years, across the UK and over in Europe.

Whilst I would not want him as a manager of a club (we can remember his St Mirren team when he was manager, football was appalling), I would have him in that role.
  8. Hey, just back here after a spell off it due to personal reasons for a few years. Just spoke with Keena and he’s confirmed this will happen, apparently very excited to play alongside young Dowd

Blair Alston on the way and we are speaking to Danny Devine too.

Nice one mate!! Who else we gonna sign???

  9. Any club that takes six players from any top tier club, but more specifically the Arse Cheeks, should be cancelled, and I would encouraging our players to leave the boot in throughout that particular match.

And if Gary Deans is considering approaching either club for a bulk loan arrangement he can GTF aswell. It would be such a "Falkirk of the last few years" thing to do.

Dont think we should be limiting what players we should take to help us win the league and get out of here to be honest (with the exception of the likes of Goodwillie).

I doubt any manager at our level would accept having a board decide on player recruitment. It goes back to the old "oversight" arguement that was debated on here after Hartleys shambolic summer.
Managers have complete control over football matters. So they should, because they live or die by those decisions. Anyone from above who tries to interfere is (politely) told where to go. There have been a few stories about that over the years.

This is only the case in British/UK football, but it becoming less and less in England. Especially in Europe, clubs appoint a director of football/sporting director to take charge of recruitment, with a head coach being employed rather than a manager.

The main benefit is that whilst the head coach always changes, the director of football mainly stays, and their recruitment is based on short, medium and long term thinking.

We could have certainly used that during Hartleys reign. What director of football would sign 3 left backs but no recognised right backs?

Also you’re not telling me that the likes of Celtic, Hibs, St Johnstone in particular don’t have someone overseeing transfers at board level and giving the final say.

Whilst it would be difficult to find someone at League One capable of this, and it may not fit the culture, we could have benefited from something like this.
  10. Said to a few mates about PT players. Often overlooked as have decent day job. Fears that PT players fitness would be a concern is simply a myth. Don’t think I’ve seen one PT player looking out of sorts after playing against us. Defo should be an avenue to look at, at this level.

Don’t think they’re overlooked. They’ll be on a decent part time wage plus their day job which will be more money than we can offer on a full time basis, and it’s mostly if not all about money.

However, you’re right that we could do more accommodate them, should they wish to join.
  11. I wasn’t overly disappointed to see Watson go at the time, on the belief that there was better centre halves out there.

With the budget available, I still believe we should have signed better to replace him.

That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have minded him back now, or in hindsight it might have been better to keep him, but him staying or going is not the reason we are where we are.

He is a decent championship player, nothing more. So highly rated by United that they released him...

  12. Doyle and Longridge are strange ones. Hope we have a right back lined up cause I’m not sure if I’m ready to go back to an auxiliary one after only one year.

You’d imagine Longridge will have something else lined up. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him try down south after his brother did last year.
