  1. One of these teams has brought in a new manager this summer, rebuilt the team, and has got the good feel back amongst the supporters again.

    The other team is Falkirk.

After 3 defeats in a row it’s important we not only stop the rot but get back to winning ways.

Dumbarton fans: apart from the obvious, what’s the main difference between Duffy’s team last year, and your new managers team this year?

  2. 5 points between 1st and 8th in the league after half a dozen games. Only QP are unbeaten so far and not one team has won more than half their games. Unlikely to remain as tight as that throughout the rest of the season, but does look like there will be no runaway winners and it’ll be who can just get enough points on the board.

For us to do that, it’s being more clinical when we get chances to score in games we are dominating (easier said than done), and being a lot better at the back in the games where we aren’t playing as well (only one clean sheet out of 6 so far).

This was similar last year to a certain extent. I think the majority on here had wanted us to look at an alternative management team EVEN if we went up, due to the style/lack of game-plan from M&M. We collapsed and Thistle, who looked terrible earlier last season, managed to put a run together and now find themselves 4th in the league above. We won’t get a perfect manager at League 1, or even if we were back in the top flight, but I am encouraged by what Sheerin is trying to do so far (low bar compared to previous managers perhaps) but he will need to learn from his mistakes quickly.

Not sure what he can do on the signing front until January now (maybe another loan?) But think most can agree there’s questions regarding DoF recruitment for him. It’ll be a test of Sheerin if he can somehow get a tune out of some of the dross that’s there.

Fans are rightly concerned, angry, upset that we are in this position/league for the third consecutive season and are worried about it being a 4th. It’s up to the club and this team to prevent that from happening. Will they be able to do that? I’m not as confident as I was (especially with injuries to Morrison etc) but once the first round of fixtures are played, we might be in a better position to tell.

  3. Our poorest performance since Sheerin came in. Can see why Alloa have been unbeaten at home. A tight pitch and pressed us well. Won’t give away many clear cut chances if they defend like that in this league. We had a few towards the end of the game but usual, not clinical enough to take them. Would have been more than we deserved today anyway.

With only Nesbitt as a threat in the 3 behind the striker, this prevented any real creativity.

Morrison being out is a real blow. Hopefully not too serious and means it’s not just down to one player to try and do it all.

  4. Falkirk come into this game wondering what would have happened if we’d signed Greig Spence and/or Liam Buchanan, but will have to do with Michael Ruth on loan from Aberdeen.

The Wasps surely wondering if they’d have been better keeping Buchanan over signing Sammon. How has Durnan been for you so far?

In ex Alloa news Hetherington, our captain, getting mixed reviews so far.

In terms of team news, Brad McKay only played 45 minutes so not sure he’s ready for a game of this magnitude so reckon the team will be. Not sure about Morrison’s fitness either.

How will Back Pass Barry set his team up for Saturday?

  5. Time will tell- will be interesting to see How Ruth performs at Falkirk( wish him well except against us) Vs Dowds at Arbroath- if Campbell gets him playing like old days at EF ( and unlike others on this forum Campbell rates him and he is doing a remarkable job re man management)will be interesting debate…but Agree days at Falkirk probably over- mind you with the two wingers you guys play who never pass the ball  early and feel its all about their stats- Harry Kane wouldnt get 15 goals ….but hey time will tell…

Back to his old EF days, where he managed 6 goals in 32 games in League One? I’ve no idea if Ruth is any good or not but Dowds for me isn’t good enough for League One, never mind the Championship.

What’s this about two wingers we play who never pass the ball early because they feel it’s about their stats? What on earth does that mean?
  6. Knew Greig Spence had a terrible goal record recently and I was ready to laugh Buchanan’s as well, surprisingly better goal record in league one, albeit from a few years ago.

Would still have been laughed at on here if we had signed him, and have to question why Alloa didn’t keep him on (genuinely don’t know).

  7. They were shite and we were shite but we were a wee bit less shite [emoji23]
Always a laugh when Falkirk get beat that they were never outplayed or lost to a better side.

ps I know we’re shite, but at least we can admit it.

    Rubbish.

Look at any of our games over the last, what, 2/3 seasons? And you’ll see lots of Falkirk fans saying how bad we were and have deserved to lose.

The performance today was still better than anything Hartley/McKinnon/M&M served us.

When you miss a penalty and have 2 offside goals, not your day.

As others have said, we need at least 1 (capable) striker in before the window closes. Wilson and Sammy have been woeful so far.

Impressed by QP not letting us play and limiting our chances to shots off targets.
  8. The captaincy, it's been a bit of a shambles, firstly giving it to Miller then taking it off him to give to Hetherington who by all accounts isn't really a talker on the park, then the sending off at Airdrie, Miller spits the dummy refuses to take the arm band( obviously felt aggrieved), and then nobody is captain against Clyde or at least nobody was wearing the arm band?

Nesbitt was captain and wearing an armband.
  9. Surprised not a thread for this yet.

Both teams will be confident going into this one.

I’d only make one change and bring Krasniqi in for Ross, Hetherington back on the bench after suspension. Would be hoping to get a striker signed between now and Saturday too.

Few ex Bairns for away team, can’t remember facing a team with so many previous players of ours. How is life after McKinnon?

  10. Be interested to see which position of the park he ends up in and in replacement of who. Can understand the lack of height in midfield but thought Telfer and Hetherington worked well as a two, even Ross looked okay in the latter’s absence.

What we definitely do need is depth and that’s an area of the team which is lacking.

  11. Okay I thought the treadmills episode was the worst moan I’d seen on here recently.

Moaning about not paying £60k for one player in League One after a season that was covid affected might be up there.

FYI - St Johnstone have just drawn away to Galatasaray tonight. Which of those players did they spend a £60k fee on?

  12. Not disagreeing with the Gary Miller hate, but with Hall nowhere near fit, who would you have played at centre half today?

Don’t think we had much alternative so willing to give Sheerin a bit of slack for that.

What I am willing to criticise Sheerin for is signing Wilson. On a 2 year deal. Nowhere near good enough. Would have been better playing Morrison up front whilst waiting on a better striker. Dowds will never convince me to be good enough either.

Crucial next two weeks in terms of transfer activity now.

  13. A fantastic signing for Falkirk. Easily the best full back in the league and will be a huge miss. I can happily concede that Falkirk are a bigger club than Airdrie, no matter what the gap in the league and our regular beatings of you suggest. However, for me it's a puzzling move from Leon who could have easily done well at a higher level than L1 again. Seems to lack ambition on his part.

3 year deal probably. What level do you think he could play at? If mid table championship, I also wouldn’t be surprised if we matched or offered more than what they would pay, considering his potential.
  14. Please no! We already got Leitch from Falkirk - that could well be disastrous enough, going by their fans thoughts, without adding Sammon.

Yeah just wanted to apologise in advance for you lot signing Robbie Leitch. Hopefully you don’t have to use him in any meaningful game.
  15. Not particularly happy with that one. Telfer and Connolly were bigger losses to Morton than him and they’ve both been in our team that has failed to win promotion two years in a row.

It’s not an exact science (player x came from club x and we are still in league one = any player from club x won’t get us out of League One).

As pointed out Connolly has never played for Morton either.

I’m sceptical about getting excited about any players due to how we’ve been burned in the past. Players from a higher level, younger players, experienced players, there’s not been a magic formula to work out what type of players we should be going for.

We were definitely short in wide areas last season, relying on Leitch and a 17 year old making his first team debut for a slot on the left hand side, sometimes even using Josh Todd ffs. I suspect he will be an upgrade on those at least.
