  1. Well done to Montrose on the win, thoroughly deserved.

We seem to be fixing one bit at a time. First it was the defence, and now clearly our midfield is needing fixed next. A midfield 3 including Telfer and Nesbitt will get us nowhere. I’d still be pursuing Liam Craig if available and have him and Jacobs being solid and giving that defence more protection, whilst being able to take control of the game, keep the ball, and get good passes to our forward players.

It fell to shit yesterday when ATS had to come off and we opted for Gary Miller at LCB, rather than changing the system or bringing on Hall.

Referee was shocking for both teams, he didn’t affect the outcome of the game but wow. Some of those decisions for both teams were baffling.

We will continue to do just enough against Dumbarton, East Fife etc but nowhere near good enough for Cove, Airdrie, Montrose. Who knows about QP next week, massive game.

  2. McCall's 3 at the back could all play football though.

I loved Yogi as a centre half. He was no nonsense and what we would give for someone like that now. I disagree that he was a ball playing centre half though.

As you should know Latapy was a one-off and in no way should be used to make a point about players in their mid thirties in general.

Darren Dods was 36 when he joined us.
Yogi returned when he was 38.

Both did a fine job despite their age.
  3. ‘Can’t believe we are playing 3 at the back in league one’

Worked out okay for McCall in 2002/2003, one of my favourite Falkirk teams.

‘Getting excited about a 35 year old topping up his pension’

What age was Latapy when he joined us?

Things in isolation and out of context don’t really mean anything.

It’s not to say every 3 at the back will end up with us winning the second tier, or any mid thirties signing will end up like Latapy, but seems to be taking any possible scenario/solution and then going to the most reactionary comments possible.

3 at the back is fine if played in the right way.

Signing older players is fine if complemented by other younger players making up for their deficiencies elsewhere.

Naturally we would be complaining about having a poor back 4 and needing an extra body, or signing youngsters with a lack of experience and leadership.

This man has no shame at all [emoji3] It's the reason he got punted from us, didn't want to retire and just focus on the coaching side of the game despite being completely done.

Yeah doesn’t read well compared to the interview. He admitted it had been a bit long since he last played and may be too difficult at his age to manage.

However, if he did register, as already been stated, he would be our 3rd choice striker (perhaps 4th if playing Morrison up front).
  5. Credit to Dowds though re his professionalism . You have been a big critic coming on our forum saying that “ University Level” is his standard and others have said “dugshite”.
I cant believe he doesn’t want to play in the Championship with Arbroath and with far, far better players, much better manager. One  or two posters here have said his celebrations looked subdued today whereas when he scores he normally goes wild( just look at the Arbroath Instagram to see real happiness and thats how we remember him at EF), so all credit to him .
As i have said before he was outstanding for us scoring in big games against quality opposition in higher leagues and he clearly did that at Arbroath also- so it has only Falkirk that has set him back.
Really hopes he get his move to fulfill his potential , but well done Rennie for spotting a player .

Antons not going to shag you m8.
  6. To continue with another Arbroath link. Sheerln was our  manager prior to him going to Aberdeen. He led us in our first ever trophy winning season and the football we played was a joy to watch.[emoji1145]

Pretty good player at that level and who was his number 2? The excellent Stewart Petrie…
  7. Wasn’t fussed about Dowds going but it was more Wilson and Sammy’s lack of talent to replace him that was an issue.

One of the reasons I wasn’t keen on Dowds was the lack of mobility. If Campbell’s improved this and his work rate, and helped scoring at a higher level, we will get a better player back than we loaned out.

May end up being the best thing that’s happened to his career, going on loan to Arbroath.

Hopefully he can fire us into the playoffs and promotion, but he’ll need a better squad around him to do that. A promising start.

  8. Bullen was a bit of a cult hero at Falkirk. Legend of a guy off the park and really respected within the club at the time. I hope he does a cracking job.
ETA: I’m sure he was our assistant manager in his second season. Everyone had him down to be the next man in line but he moved down south as his wife had a business at the time.

Couldn’t have put it better. Considering he was ex Dunfermline as well, couldn’t have gone down better off the park with us.

Think you’ve got a good one there, hope he does well.
