  1. He's absolutely bum but miles better than Durnan.

He's not very good at right back. He's marginally better at CB but still one of the poorer defenders we've had in the last few years. Ended the season alongside Devine and, in fairness, both played pretty solidly. He's wanted to go back to the central belt for a while so this move makes sense for him. He'll probably look reasonable enough at League 1 level but he typically struggled at in the Championship. If he gets you up here you'll likely need to upgrade again next year.

He's pish.  Looks reasonably solid for a wee while and then just as you think he's alright has a mahoosive brain fart.

Just as well we’ve signed him on a 3, that’s right, 3 year deal.

May the Falkirk FC banter era continue.
  2. Can’t disagree with that - these guys are working for a living and if they’re getting more money then fair enough.
That being said, I wouldn’t have thought they’d be offering much more than we are and, taking money out of the equation, I genuinely don’t think they are a better option than us right now so it would be disappointing.
Ultimately though, I’m of the view that if they don’t want to play for your club, they are as well going.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would Falkirk not be a better option than Airdrie?
  3. When Houston signed McGhee and Balatoni, it looked a vast improvement on Gasperotto and even Watson who was due a clanger from time to time.

Agree with the poster above that he was probably dragged down with the shite around him. However don’t think anyone expected him to be this attacking midfielder type player. Fair play to him.

  4. It’s a funny old game. People who’d want Rice despite him being relegated with Hamilton. People not wanting Grant because he’s been relegated with Alloa. Now granted (pardon the pun) that’s mostly folk on COYB with that opinion.

Fox would be a disaster based on his spell at Cowdenbeath.

  5. Rumours that Anton Dowds has been released from Falkirk. Would he be a welcome addition to our squad ?

He’s got another year left on his contract so I doubt we will have released him (although we’ve got previous).

However you’re more than welcome to have him back, if he agreed to forgo the final year of his contract with us to go back part time.

  6. Contacts is going to be key for a rebuild. And we need that in spades. The last few (lol) clearouts have been exercises in how not to do it. Grant pulling favours for the loan market and attracting folk who know and understand the league and the task at hand would be an infinite improvement on what we have been served up of late.

I used to dislike Grant. I thought he was a bad appointment for you. Iv not converted to a fan of his but certainly the way Alloa fans speak of him in general has me less concerned

When I’ve looked through the Alloa thread, one of his main criticisms is his use of the loan market dealings. Whether it’s needed as much at a full time team like us, is up for debate.

Have use lot not been through enough to avoid another car crash. As a coach fine but tactically naive, must win game 2 down puts two strikers on in the 94th minute. Has sloppy shoulders will blames the referees, players and ball boys, takes no responsibility.

Hopefully he takes his son with him.

His son was a stand out in this league last year. There’s not a chance we are going up so would be a major upgrade on anything we’ve got at the moment.
  8. Morrison was a good player at the start of the season. Before teams caught on and he was marked out the game. We don’t have a decent right back that’s overlapped him to help him on the right, and we’ve been playing one up front, sometimes only one in the box.

He’s been dragged down with the rest of the shite.

  9. We've still got 2 more league games and then 2 playoff games, with an utterly demoralised, directionless and leaderless squad of horseshit losers to go through first.

Absolutely no guarantee of playoff games either. We aren’t winning another game all season, Montrose will have a game against us to win, and one more win will get them in there.
  10. I still can’t believe Falkirk never signed him when he was available, given the obvious Livi connection with Holt.

Before Holt came in, you had ex Livingston player Lee Miller. Jack Hamilton going to East Fife, and Tiffoney to Thistle, is mind blowing, considering Miller left on reasonable terms. Considering the shite we have signed instead, as I said, mind blowing.

No doubt we’d have turned them into shite as well.

    Congratulations Thistle, thoroughly deserved.
  11. The second most points I believe refers to the period after January. He certainly failed to get anything at all out of the existing squad which isn’t surprising with his man management skills.
Just checked- he won 1 game prior to January and 10 after (3 of which were against a dreadful Brechin game).

That’s what it was, fair enough.
He inherited an absolutely dreadful squad (we had won 3 points out of 18 before Houston left). From January where he was able to sign his own players we won 10, drew 3 and lost 5 - 33 points from 18 games. Had we went the whole season at that rate of points per game we'd have comfortably finished second.
    EDIT:
Don't get me wrong, Hartley did an absolutely horrific recruitment job that summer and deserved to be punted for assembling probably the worst squad I had seen up until this year, but the facts are that his appointment was an excellent one and his first season with us he did very, very well. He's done very well as a manager since leaving us too.
I'm not convinced any of us will ever know the full story of what happened that summer, but it would not surprise me one bit to find out many decisions were taken that weren't his, given our absolute shambles of a board.

Yeah this is my take on the thing overall.
  12. Hartley did a decent enough job in his first season but it was hardly earth shattering.
He inherited an average squad in eighth place and finished the season in 8th place. He was also helped by the dire Brechin team that couldn’t win a game.

His first season from when he took over, he won the second most points. We were that far behind that 8th was about the best we could have done. That season St Mirren and Livingston went up and have been in the premier league ever since.
