With Smith back and hopefully the loan keeper is who we all think it is we can go into this game with Falkirk with real confidence. As well as Falkirk have been doing recently they always seem to play right into our hands especially at our place. Can see us blowing them away like we did to Alloa and Dunfermline in the first half and hopefully unlike the later we keep 11 men on the park and we will comfortably see this through. For me we this will be vital to keep us firmly in playoff spot and dent Falkirks title hopes as I'd fancy us against them in a playoff as well.  👍♦️

Now that the painful debate about McKay and Donaldson is finally over, I’d like to offer an opinion.

I feel that falkirk are a much improved side from when we played them at the start of the season although so are we. Our only downfall being our inability to sustain a lead.

I think we should go into this feeling confident considering how well we played over the last two weeks but shouldn’t expect an easy game.

Falkirk do still give me the sense that all could collapse at any moment and there’s no better place for that than in ML6 on Saturday 👍

Don't flatter yourselves. We've been fairly average against you at times and still won.

4-0 to airdrie and at least 6 falkirk Fannies to be punched out their trainers. Maybe topple a few disabled fans whilst we are at it. No mercy

Must be good supporting a team that don't occasionally f**k up and blow an opportunity. Oh wait..... The Mighty, huge, massive Falkirk are still here after years of perpetual failure. 😉

Let's see come Saturday. Here's hoping the 'Mighty Charlie Telfer' shows what he can do when he's managed properly. 👌

Nothing to fear going into this. At our worst stage of season it was a draw however I do think Falkirk have improved so I'm going for only 3 -0 to The Diamonds this time.

Disappointing performance from us today. Got the goal and had them rattled and then fair play to MCGlynn he made the tactical changes to get Nesbit and Morrison into the game a bit more. Maybe converting the penalty would have changed the course of the game will never know  Credit to Falkirk who played well and deserve the win. Guess our dominant few years run had to end at some point. Our key men didn't show today Falkirks did.

Still looking forward to smashing them over both legs in the playoffs though.  ♦️

    Delicious. Enjoy your night.

  2. Grant228 losing the plot here and it’s quite sad actually. Worth a slagging initially after  his ‘misguided’ posts but the ‘don’t back down, double down’ approach from him is depressing. Maybe take some time off Pie and Bovril for 24 hours, there’s more to life than this forum and not sure what these posts are doing for you. Have time to reflect on what you’ve said and decide how to proceed from there.

Falkirk fans in the main will accept your apology and we can then move on from all this.

The only one I'm on the fence with is Gary Oliver just because I reckon we could have got better quality in than him but lately he's been a lot better.

Out of interest, who do you think we could have got in that was better quality?

Apart from his very long answers to one question, the other main takeaway I’ve had from McGlynn interviews is how difficult it is to get good quality strikers in.

All to do with the change in stature of the club.

The academy was closed because being a League 1/Championship side in London meant the top talents would inevitably be picked off. Now they're a Premiership side, with the funding that brings it makes sense to have an academy.

Ultimately our closing of the academy, the reason for it, and what we did next were completely different to Brentford. We were quoted of using ‘the Brentford model’ but it couldn’t be further from that. Whilst the Bees used pioneering data to find players, we used an agent called Richard Mitchell who chucked any old English player at us. At Scottish second tier level I’m not sure of how much data like Brentford’s would help attract players from further afield, who knows.

Brentford were investing a lot of cash in their academy only for their players to get picked off at a youngish age for a relatively short sum of cash. Can’t say this was the case with us, more that we were having to sell a player every season to balance the books of it, which wasn’t sustainable. The idea of having more money to put towards the first team was a wise one, what we did with it was a shambles.

What was also a shambles was how it was communicated to players and their families, and then when offered external funding to keep it going, it was rejected by the club.

Falkirk and Brentford are labelled together when it comes to closing their academies but really the two stories are very different and the clubs have said opposite effects since doing so.

McGlynn performing frankly stunning January business all things considered imo:

    Kinnear for Hogarth/ Martin

    Rowe for Hetherington

    Meekison for Ross

    Wright for Wilson

    ? for Alegria

Huge upgrades on the 3 outfield players and if Hogarth and Alegria's replacements can contribute on a like for like basis I reckon that's about as good as anyone could have hoped for

Would have Wright as an Alegria replacement considering Wilson never really played.

Even Rowe for Hetherington isn’t like for like but does allow Yeats back in the middle so think that’s fair.

  6. Alloa will feel hard done by after that. Credit to them, play like that more often than not and they’ll be in the top 4.

Delighted to win that cup tie, in a way I can’t remember us winning for a while. We’ve usually had to outplay teams and created multiple more chances in order to win games, today a little bit different.

When most of the games in this league are pretty tight, and with next to nothing on the bench, I can completely understand keeping Burrell for the latter stages if the game isn’t going quite to plan. Would hate for it to be tight and only having Oliver, McGuffie and Yeats to bring on. Ideally we would be 3-0 up in the first half of games but that’s never going to happen. We desperately need another striker in though, as everyone knows.

Just says he’s returning to the B team as that’s where he was in previous years. Not good enough for their first team so this is where he’ll be for now. I suspect it’s compassionate leave he’s been given and much easier to do that if he’s been recalled.

  8. Looking in the mould of Alegria, wonder if Innes Cameron would be available after Kilmarnock signed another striker who played against Celtic at the weekend. Someone with a physical presence. Like Alegria wasn’t great in the league above last year but with McGlynn and Smiths coaching maybe able to get a tune out of him.

  9. Multiple pages for what I believe is a very unlikely rumour. Did we have this many when he was rumoured to be going to Hamilton?

In saying that we had hundreds for he who must not be named, but I think that one was credible.

Wish there would be rumours for others leaving instead to be honest, what happened with the 4 who were due to join the fire service?

  10. Good example and was well intended spoke to him a few times and his heart was in the right place. But just did not have the business head to pull it off while Brown at St Johnstone did.
Moffet and Allen were good though and started the revival after the Hardy, Manson and Palmer decline

Difference of opinion then. He was not up to it no more than that.

    Hiya George, hiya pal!
  11. No manager is going to win every match and I wouldn’t expect Mcglynn to. However, only winning half of games in league 1 isn’t good enough and will not win us any league.

Definitely isn’t good enough if to win a league, but couldn’t care less as long as we get promoted out of this hellhole, which is still more than possible.
  12. I didn't think nesbitt was that dreadful yesterday his pass through for lawal before the opening goal was excellent and he covered most of the pitch but mcginn needs far more help than him and Oliver are going to give him that's for sure. It also means lawal whose supposed to be a number 10 is he not in this formation spends far too much time helping out the midfield isolating burrell up top.  At the end of the day we scored enough goals and had enough chances to win comfortably but our two shitebag centrebacks managed managed to ensure we only got one point. I'm not in the mcglynn out camp the majority on here were of the opinion that this was more than a one season job when he took over but now we seem to be expecting a lot more. Mistakes have been made in recruitment again mind you but a lot fewer than in previous seasons. Decision not to bring in a right back a poor one that's hampering us and mcglynn has complained about having too many similar players which is correct but why then sign Oliver and Kennedy to add to the midget midfield brigade whilst doing little to move on some of the players we already have? We're crying out for a midfield enforcer to allow the likes of mcginn and lawal to do their stuff instead. It's still a good bit to go but I think we'll make the playoffs comfortably and then it's not impossible to beat the likes of Hamilton or Arbroath . Lot still to play for but we badly need some wheeling and dealing in January to get more consistency out the side.

Spot on for me. Would be looking at either Yeats or Hetherington in for Oliver in midfield to shore it up, and hope for something in January. Far too open in midfield yesterday.

Haven’t bothered reading back the full thread since the game yesterday but assume many would want to go to Donaldson and Mackie at centre half once both fit and available and would agree with this too.

Just need to get the right balance between attack and defence and don’t think we are a million miles away, albeit a bit frustrating it’s taking us until the end of the second quarter of the season to still be working it out.
  13. Happy enough after that. Thought we struggled to break Edinburgh down at times which is going to be a theme throughout the rest of the season.

Think we all knew about Olas technical ability but what impressed me was his tackling (when he needed to) and general work rate. More games and fitness can only make this improve. A superb bit of skill for his goal.

Agree with Donaldson being solid again. Thought Henderson and McGinn off the boil today, especially the former in possession.

Need to build on this now after last week.

  14. Has Kennedy been struggling for you? Thought he looked good against us last week.

Nah he’s had one bad game yesterday, potentially in a game that he maybe wasn’t suited to.

Had we a plethora of decent wide options I’d be all for dropping him. But it’s only him, Morrison or McGuffie that are playing wide, and I don’t rate McGuffie. Nesbitt has played wide before but McGlynn sees him more in the middle.

There will be shouts to get Ola Lawal out wide which I think wouldn’t suit him. Wouldn’t be adverse to chucking him in this game as the 10 but that would it in terms of positionally.

Less of the aimless long balls when things aren’t going to plan and trying to work through the midfield more. Lack of patience on Saturday at times.
