Almost a parody of Jack Reacher, if that makes sense. Enjoyable guff all the same I suppose. Last few books I read have been biographies of Meatloaf (seems like a nice enough guy), Jimmy Page (weird, debauched but driven), and Robert Plant (seems like a decent guy despite the debauchery). John Bonham doesn't come out of either book as the sort of guy you'd want to meet.

I've become a huge fan of Steely Dan since those formative years and you're right. In fact I think they were sued by Silver and have had to give him a co credit (and presumably royalties) since.

My dad liked both this and Steely Dan back in the day. I used to always get confused between Innocent Man and Rikki Don't Lose That Number. Although there can only be one winner here.

Arnott isn't really the type of character who you feel any sympathy for usually, but I felt for him when he couldn't get it on and just hid in his bathroom until his ex left.
