  1. I'm not sure any pressure should be put on clubs to get floodlights when they are not currently required for participation at tier 6 or below.
I keep repeating it, though, as there are so many misconceptions out there - for 62 out of the 63 teams in the West Region nothing will change if they join the pyramid. There are no negatives to it, but lots of positives and opportunities to develop your club if you wish to do so. Why any club in the West Region would say no to it is beyond my understanding.

I agree and I probably should of said encouraged rather than aim but I do think clubs should look at ways of improving facilities.
  2. Only teams who win the Premiership will need a licence and lights to get promoted to tier 5.
That won't affect 62 out of 63 teams each season.
If your team is good enough to win the Premiership, then it must obviously have a bit of money behind it and would likely to be able to get a licence.
Pollok's particular circumstances regarding planning permission for floodlights is not an issue I can comment on as I don't know the facts.

Totally agree with this. Floodlights are not that expensive and assistance can be done to get these. The top 2 divisions in the west should be aiming to have these anyway and it would alleviate fixture congestion towards the end of the season.

  3. I think and thats only think, that the board will take the view the vote was to join the pyramid and not the eosl. Now ive just resigned myself to us not going. I think now is the time to push for a separate west league, be much easier to get a wosl in than the whole sjfa set up.

If your club lead the charge I’m sure there would be others who will follow. Personally I hope my club would be one of them.
  4. Look at their squads, generally all players that would have at one time dropped out of the SPFL into the Junior top level or players that would still be top level in the West - now they dont come to/stay at the likes of Pollok or Hurlford, they choose to stay Senior and weaker players drop into the top level junior leagues.

I certainly know from 1st hand knowledge that for some of the East Kilbride players it had nothing to do with the level more to do with convenience for training and the money on offer.
  5. If the West doesnt join the pyramid the better players will continue to migrate to the LL and that will reduce the quality you are watching. Its simply a case of join the pyramid or stagnate and then watch as the Juniors becomes a far inferior product to what is on offer elsewhere.  Standards are clearly dropping in the West as the likes of BSC and EK pick up some of the cream and that is only going to increase over time.
If fans of Stranraer and Berwick can afford to go to Elgin then its laughable to suggest that Talbot couldnt put on a bus to those places at an apposite price. There will be many fans who would love an awayday at Peterhead or Elgin.

Have they picked up the cream of the West? Who are these stars? The standards have been in the drop for a long time before the LL came along. The LL is a good standard but to say it’s better than the West Region is unprovable argument.
  6. If, for example, the West Juniors were to go it alone and opt to join the pyramid next season ,  what "power" does the SJFA have to stop them? What does continuing membership of the SJFA offer them?

They have no power to stop them but there is no league for them to move too. The clubs would be required to set up their own league under the auspices of the SFA but no west club looks like wanting to take the lead for this and also their is no guarantee that SFA would accept them as my take from the minutes that have been put on this site is that the SFA favours the SJFA coming into the pyramid.

I just want a firm decision on what is happening. Clubs need to start preparing for next season and if has been mooted the west will start early next season to make sure their ready in time for the play offs, then clubs need to start planning ground maintenance, pre season etc.
  7. How can they not is the question ?
All the regions are separate entities anyway. The only overlap is the Junior cup.

They are not spectate entities though. They are regions of the SJFA. The SJFA have overall power. That’s why they are representing the clubs and not the regions.
  8. 2 games last week abandoned both playable at kick-off, infact bone dry at both venues till 1pm, the the heavens open, games abandoned after an hour n a half of torrential rain, so if whittlets was OK in the morning the surely the don't need to inspect pitch, if it changes between 10am till 1pm then there's nothing can be done till match ref arrives, I tried four years ago to cancel a match at 11:45am after torrential rain started at 10:30am the visiting team hadn't left there area but Mr Robertson told me, you can't cancel now, it's upto match official, Ardeer arrived and were told to go home by match off, crazy ruling,

Agreed, similar things happened with us in the past, one where the heavens opened as Petershill arrived and with 30mins the parts of the park were underwater due to the surface being hard underneath. Crazy thing was by 4pm it was as playable again. My early post was in response to a Rossvale fan who was unaware there had been further rain. We again have had that in the past where a pitch was quite clearly unplayable and there hadn’t been any further rain but they decided to gamble but it was called off.
  9. What a load of utter drivel.
Thr North were never going to go in at the same time.
Nobody is splitting the SJFA either,West,North and East will all still be SJFA members and play in the cup.

Sorry but that’s rubbish. There was never anything saying the north weren’t going in at the same time. There is no mandate to put one region in at a time.

Can you answer me this please. If the west go in this season and no other region goes in due to being unable to overcome some of the current issues then will the west be pulled back out? How would the SJFA operate when they have regions at different tiers?
  10. I think the clue in kilbowiebenches comment  is obviously the  have to join at the same time though! Maybe his plan is to get the West in for next season at tier six and work on other two regions for future seasons? Your comments that I have put in bold are correct though.

Ok, if that’s the case (I don’t think it is) then that should of been made clear to the clubs, clubs may have voted differently if they were made aware of this. What happens if the west goes in next season and the east don’t and no future agreement can be sorted then you would have the west in and the east outside. That could occur if the boundary issue of the Tay cannot be overcome.
  11. TJ isn't insisting that all 3 regions have to join at the same time though!

But the vote was for the full juniors to go in to the pyramid not only one region so he is insisting as he is carrying out the will of the clubs. Anything other than that goes against the vote and there would have to be a new vote due to the material change. The outcome may be different in that case.

The junior clubs voted on mass to go. It is not up for a region to decide to go against the will of all clubs. If that is the case then it would be far better to create a set up in the west and let clubs move who want to. To have a situation where you will have the west juniors in the pyramid, the east juniors maybe in the pyramid but the north juniors not in is ridiculous and will make a mockery.
  12. It was one of the Match officials who called the game off when he turned up at 1pm today after a Whitletts Commitee guy asked him to walk the park as they had concerns ...surely this should have been done at 11am before Rossvale squad had left Glasgow ....Game was called of as they had concerns weather conditions wouldn't improve which I get but c'mon do an official inspection at a reasonable time to give us a head up I'm sure all clubs would appreciate that ....

So are you saying no pitch inspection took place this morning?
  13. As I was part of the Pollok academy past couple of years I know how it's run. its been set up as a separate entity by local and ex Pollok players. PollokFc have no control of the academy but last year was the closest its ever been with 5 players, (all U19s at the time) gaining duel contracts with Pollok Fc and 1 went to Partick Thistle, 1 to Stirling Albion, 1 to Livingston, 4 or 5 to BSC Glasgow Development, 1 loaned to Johnston Burgh, 1 to Larkhall and 1 loan to Cumnock and 1 went on scholarship to America.  All from last years league winning U19s team.  I will say the progression is moving swiftly and really positive and long may it continue, there are a few stumbeling blocks that need sorted but all in all its all good.   This year there has as far as I'm aware, no communication between the first team and the youth academy, (well definetly not the wy I wanted), although a few games have been played at Newlandsfield this year, (2006s and U19s ties).   The Clydebank academy is being rushed through with purpose by the Clydebank first team and the u19s train beside the first team and at Kirkintilloch the U21s train beside the first team.     In regards to Arthurlie moving, this sounds great, where are they moving too and are they preparing for senior maybe on the off chance of is it a direct positive move to progress to seniors.

It wasn’t meant to be derogatory against the set up. As I said before I believe all junior clubs should have at least an under 20 team that would allow access to players in an injury crisis.

Arthurlie have used a number of players from the 19s and 21s over the last decade. Some have stuck some have not. Currently Lee Roulston in midfield has stepped up from the the 21 Scottish Cup runners up from last season. Plus we have 2 boys from Barrhead Youth in the team in Conor Bradley and Tony Etherston.

Forgot to add earlier that Beith also have/had an academy set up.
  14. Where is the new ground slated to be located out of curiosity?

It was mentioned in the local paper it would be in Dunterlie part of Barrhead where there is a current facility which would be redeveloped. It wouldn’t be far from Arthurlie‘ original Dunterlie where they beat Celtic. It’s about a 10/15 minute walk from the current ground.
  15. Interesting enough how many teams in the junior set up are getting their academy set up.
I know Pollok, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and Clydebank and now taking this further although all are at different stages.   I heard and sure that when a lot of junior teams joined the seniors last year, they all took local boys teams into their set up in a rush as on the east side there were fewer teams playing in the Scottish leagues and fewer teams in the east youth grassroots leagues

Arthurlie have some academy teams and are Pollok not really an affiliation rather than in control of their academy?

Most teams should have at least and under 20s imo and East Kilbride Juniors attempted to start an under 20s west league a few years back but it wasn’t supported enough to take off.

In terms of clubs moving forward with ground improvements Arthurlie are potentially moving to a new ground in the near future. A ground that will be up to the club licence standard I believe.
  16. Only looking from the outside in, as I deal with youth coaching part of a junior team in the west but I find it very interesting.   I'm lead to believe from rumours and hearsay only,  it seems like many junior teams, especially in the 'West' are unsure so waiting to see what is happening. If Cumnock has applied then good for them and hope everything they have in place fits the criteria set down by the SFA to become a member club.    I'm sure there is many swithering including Clydebank whom I feel its only time once they jump. Teams like Pollok, I believe won't jump due to the lack of facitlies that the SFA require to become a member club, the size of the park is too small and no floodlights etc...

If half of the west junior clubs jumped, wonder if there would be just a WEST league equivalent to the South league and the East of Scotland league.   Personally, it would be great if the four west divisions would stay the way they are and become part of the pyramid system and the top division would be the equivalent of the south and east leagues.   Anyone know officially which junior clubs in the 3 regions, 'West', 'East' and 'North' are known NOT to have the correct facilities to become a member club ? I know Clydebank are laying a new bigger footballing surface and floodlights and should be ready by April

The issue is that there is no league in the west other than the south of Scotland for teams to move to. I don’t see Glasgow based clubs moving to the south when, as Clydebank have found out, you will struggle to put competitive teams on the park with that much travelling.

If there was an alternative west of Scotland league then I would think we would see 10 to 15 clubs heading their already but we have to wait to see what announcement comes out hopefully after the next meeting of the PWG.

West region clubs have to trust TJ at the moment and have been given no reason to doubt that they will be in the pyramid next season. If that changes then you may see a new league being created but nothing has come out that will have made them change their mind.

  17. It could be, there's a lot of politics at play, the Cumnock Secty is also a past President of the SJFA.

And still currently sits on the west region committee I believe. I presume he is confident with the information given to west clubs to move forward with this rather than leaving for SOS. Wonder if an announcement might be forthcoming soon [emoji849]
  18. That's a very fair point regards them being more street wise but how long have those two clubs being building, and improving, as a squad compare that to Arthurlie having one player from last season and improving as it goes. Glencairn pumped us at the start of the season so to be disappointed in only getting a point is IMO at least a sign of how far we have come as the season has progressed.
Think back to the start of the season when avoiding relegation was a hope and now some are moaning that we aren't certs to go up?

I don’t think anyone is moaning about not going up but we got ourselves into a position to do so and I will be disappointed not to go up because was in our own hands. Of course we have improved and has said by an number of people (including myself) that the manager deserves a lot of credit for improving as the season has gone on. But that doesn’t take away that we were 2-0 up last week and through it away last week. Streetwise doesn’t need to come from the players on the park it can come from the bench recognising a game has changed. It would of put a huge marker down last week to take 3 points.

We have an opportunity to make up for it today, let’s hope we can take it.
  19. Correct, Glens are the better team for at least the first 25-30 minutes.
Arthurlie should have seen the game out at 2 nil up but were not able to.   If the Glens had been 2 nil up Arthurlie would not have fought back and got a draw, similar to the game against Cumbernauld earlier in the season.

I have a feeling big Jeffrey is either part of the management team or close to them as he had a go at me when i criticised the manager at Christmas.

For me his lack of substitutions when it was obvious Glens had changed their tactics and were in control of the game is what cost the game. He has done a brilliant job to to get us this far but the stats of only 2 points against the other teams in the top 5 (so far) is not great.

    Must win on Saturday.
  20. There used to be more kids on the pitch at half time than there are Arthurlie fans at some games nowadays.
I've asked you this before but can't remember the answer, do Arthurlie ever try and give tickets to be distributed through the schools?
Another issue is that as you drive or walk past Dunterlie there is nothing to say who Arthurlie's next game is against.  They miss a trick there as it is a busy road.

There was attempts made to give tickets to the schools but due to a number of issues on both sides it never happened.

I agree about the board. We looked into getting something close to what whitecraigs have in the Mearns. There were concerns about vandalism of the board and it was shelved.

My hope is that the ground move that is currently under discussion will reenergise the club!!
  21. Where have all the crowds gon fae the junior game ? The Peasy cup final fae years ago had 77000 !  Don't really watch the junior game but is it that bad ?

Crowds have gone the same way across all of Scottish football. The standard issue is subjective. The junior game i grew up on was blood and thunder but now it’s a different game.

I also think many clubs have lost their local identities due to changes in the community. Growing up arthurlie were part of the community throw Shanks and the Kennel Meat factory but those business have gone and replaced by houses with Barrhead becoming a commuter town with people coming from out with the area not having the same affinity to the club. Joining the pyramid is not going to cure these issues but they could well help change the view of some people. Clubs need to do more in the community to get fans back along with improving facilities.
  22. Some big games coming up in the next few weeks between the six promotion contenders :-

    Cumbernauld United v Rossvale
    Saturday 23rd February
    Arthurlie v Rossvale
    Kilsyth Rangers v Benburb
    Saturday 2nd March
    Rossvale v Benburb
    Saturday 9th March
