  1. Thought the half time interview with Robert Connor was rather interesting.
  2. In recent years I've much preferred our meetings at Gayfield. Haven't checked the stats, but this season aside we've had a run of very good performances up there, and a run of totally crap performances down here. Even in the year we won league 1. Today our performance was mediocre, not total crap but just pedestrian. Much the same could be said for Arbroath. Bet they've had a lot better performances in their recent good run. However, they scored a belter and we couldn't hit the proverbial barn door. Apart from the 4-1 v Alloa, it's been like this for the last 10 games or so. A bit like groundhog day all over again. Just 11 games to get out of this rut. Do you think we could lure big Sam away from West Brom?
  3. Last season we were 1-1 at half time, having played against a ridiculously strong wind. Their goal blew in straight from a corner. Ball seemed to turn through almost 60 degrees at front post. Not sure if either manager wanted the game to start, but I'm sure Mr Campbell wasn't too keen on the 2nd half going ahead. And sure enough the game was abandoned. As far as us Ayr fans were concerned this was a total travesty as the conditions had not got any worse. Despite a 260 ml round trip, we thought it would be a farce if the game went ahead, and that's how it turned out. But having started it should have finished.
  4. One of Aitken's better moments for us. First goal in the 2009 playoff semi-final 1st leg at Brechin. We won this 2-0 and won the 2nd leg 3-2, where Aitken scored the winner with a similar goal. We then went on to beat Airdrie in the final. Move for goal starts at 0.48. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhI0hx1vBd4
  5. Depends which Raith turn up. Seem to be blowing hot and cold. Lose to QOS in Kirkaldy, win at Tynecastle, totally gubbed at Starks by Hearts 3 days later. Hearts also capable of abject performances. As are Dundee. As are we, as we know so well. Prediction in this league at the moment is almost impossible. So I predict we'll get between 0 and 9 points from those 3 games.
  6. Cameron's goal v ICT. The move starts at 4.12. Cameron has just come on and has yet to touch the ball. So his goal was his first touch in an AU shirt. Good finish. Was about his last contribution to the team. Never really got much of a chance and also picked up an injury which kept him out for a while.
  7. According to BBC weather it's to be -3C for most of the night, rising to a balmy 1C by 1 pm and back to 0C by 4pm. Probably off. Do Dunfermline have covers?
  8. Fond memories of that game played on the mudheap at Dunfermline in 1988. Wee Templeton ran them ragged, surprised he came off the park with both legs still attached. Dunfermline were pretty brutal. That is, when they could get close enough to actually foul him. Jim Cowell on the left wing was another victim of Pars thuggery. Red card was only a matter of time. That equaliser was one of those goals that leads to total euphoria. It was hardly a thing of beauty, more a comedy of errors by the Dunfermline defence. It was the context that mattered. 3rd tier against 1st tier, away from home, fearing the worst when they scored in 63 min. Given they went down to 10 just before our goal, I thought we might go on and win it. But, to their credit, Dunfermline played better with 10 than 11 and had the better chances to win. One of our more memorable games. We then lost the replay 0-2 in front of around 11,700.
  9. Neilson never gives the opposition any credit. Every goal Hearts lose is "sloppy". Seems to be his favourite word. Admittedly, against Dunfermline it was two "poor" goals. So maybe he likes to mix it up a bit when not allocating any credit to his opponents. If he'd been England's manager in the 86 finals he'd have called Maradonna's 2nd goal a "shocking" goal to lose, all those missed tackles by half his team. The man's an arrogant grade 1 pillock.
  10. Morton 3 in 5. Livingston 3 in 8. Hearts 3 in 6, 4 in 13 Arbroath 2 in 3, almost 3 in 6, as Donnelly missed 1 on 1 when 2 up We seem to be lacking in mental fortitude. Also lack of a leader on the pitch such as Geggan, Bell, Doc or Adams used to provide. Teams will know by now that if you score against us, don't sit back and try to consolidate. Just pile forward as if your a goal down with 2 minutes to go. Chances are you'll be rewarded with 2 or 3 more.
  11. Sinisalo has saved 85% of our opponents shots on target. Opposition goalies have saved 60% of ours. So either we are more clinical in our finishing than our opponents, or Sinisalo is a better shot stopper than opposing goalies. Sad Stato.

  13. Great acquisition by EK. Good luck to Steven, sorry to lose him.
  14. Hope Mark and Mick listen to Corporal Jones and not Private Fraser - "We're doomed. Doomed I tell ye."
  15. Played well, according to Lambert and a lot of their fans. Taken off due to a slight knock. Can't see him coming back.
  16. Despite the bravely borne mental trauma of supporting QOS, Drifter is generally one of the most informative and sensible posters on P&B. Not a high bar right enough, but still. As a long standing AU supporter, I can empathise with the trauma. My shrink reckons it's really too deeply embedded now to do much about it. It's a kind of incurable masochistic personality disorder.
  17. Our record at Alloa, Arbroath and Morton has been pretty good over the last few seasons. eg We’ve won 5 of the last 6 league games at Alloa. The one we lost nearly killed our promotion chances right enough. Having 2 at ICT not that bad either, since until the last meeting their record at Somerset was fantastic. Hearts away twice not great from either the points or pounds POV. (Assuming their much heralded boycott fizzles out). And only 1 visit to Palmerston can’t be bad. Only 3 pt loss guaranteed instead of 6. So, all in all, it could be worse.
  18. Hearts and Thistle relegated. Thank the Lord. No doubt there will be an appeal, if that’s at all possible.
  19. We've suffered a double whammy from the abandonment at Arbroath. We had a huge chance of winning that game, so in all probability lost out on 3 points. Now our March fixture congestion has increased even further which could again cost us points. Officials on and off the pitch have royally shafted us. If this had happened to either of the gruesome twosome we would have had a 4 page spread on it for 5 consecutive days. At least.
  20. If Geggan touched the cross with his head, then the two Ayr players goal side of him would have been offside. Suspecting this, they might have been afraid to touch the ball and decided to let it roll over the line. From all the video and stills I’ve seen, particularly the one from the young Ayr vlogger, I suspect the ball did not cross the line. Still not absolutely sure because the first clearance rebounded back onto the clearer and might have been over at that point. Dead jammy for Queens that it didn’t rebound into the net, compounded by the fact that it then then squiggled straight out to the goalie. Must be one of the luckiest escapes I’ve ever witnessed in all my many years watching this game. After last week’s fiasco at Tannadice re the phantom penalty and subsequent red card, all quite hard to take for us Ayr fans. On the plus side luck wise, at Queens’ penalty Muirhead should probably have seen red as he clearly made no attempt to the play the ball.
  21. Last time our defence gifted goals with such largesse was when we lost 3 in the first 20 minutes against ICT at Somerset last season. Think Bell and Rose (x2) were the culprits then. No cutting edge and error prone defence is a recipe for relegation, no matter how nice our play might be on occasions. By the way, Moore was never offside from that Houston pass. Would have been through for a 1 on 1. (Probably have missed right enough. Thought he'd regained his finishing touch in the games v Morton away and Partick at home. Now back to his frustrating worst).
  22. Looked at the pen umpteen times and, unless my eyes are totally gone, it seems obvious that Kerr just got a foot on the ball and then Stanton kicks his foot. Ref was in a good position and still gave a penalty. No wonder Kerr was angry, incandescent more likely. Still, with his experience, should have been able to hold his tongue. We were obviously well in the game up to that point. 2-0 down with 10 men was game over. Our defence were obviously in a festive mood with their individual errors handing DU 3 gift wrapped goals. DU fans are always keen to point out how opposition fans are always blaming the ref when they lose. Bit like non-old firm fans in the Premier League. After today I think we might just have a point. If Kerr's was a straight red., what have you got to say to get one of those? Surely common or garden swearing isn't enough. Congratulations to DU on winning the league. Rest playing for playoffs now. If Ian McCall gets his way, we'll more likely be in the playoffs at the wrong end.
  23. Just repeating what I said earlier. You would have been hard pressed to tell which was the part time team. I thought Arbroath looked the fitter, stronger team in the 2nd half. Sure I heard a bunnet interview recently where he said his players essentially looked after their own fitness and he had no worries whatsoever in that regard. The main disadvantage was lack of time to work on tactics, set pieces etc.
  24. Ludicrous penalty. McKenna stretches for the ball as Roscoe is about to clear it. McKenna then whacks his knee into Roscoe's leg. Just to make doubly sure of cheating a pen, he then drags his trailing leg along the ground in the hope of getting it entangled with Roscoe. This worked. well. Must admit the whole thing was beautifully done by McKenna. He must spend hours practicing this sort of stuff. As an example of yet another of the refs many howlers, how about the foul he gave at around 7.07 on the video. Doris, about to receive a pass, has a glance to his left to see Roscoe coming in to challenge. He then quite deliberately throws himself in front of Roscoe and the ref gives Arbroath a free kick. Unbelievable. As a young player learning his trade, poor old Roscoe seems to have been targeted by the street wise cheats in the Arbroath team. In case you think this is all sour grapes, I would say Arbroath deserved a draw at the very least and probably should have won. Looked stronger, faster and more athletic than Ayr, specially in the second half. Someone who didn't know, would have guessed they full time/part time status was the reverse of the actuality. Hard to believe how much Ayr have deteriorated in the few short months since we won 3-0 at Gayfield.
  25. Must have been a one off with Storey. Come up against him multiple times when he was with Thistle and his undoubted pace caused us no problems at all. Seemed to be in headless chicken mode most of the time, and his finishing was abject if by some mischance he did get anywhere near goal.
