Calling it La Défense is a bit cheeky, but the only thing I see is the Train/Metro route access isn’t great…but it does feed to Saint Lazare at least.

Cool, I thought it was quite far out myself but some of the reviews state that it's actually quite good for transport 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'll have another look but Mrs Ned is quite set on that one ☹

  2. Heading to Paris in May but still not booked a hotel - Mrs Ned has earmarked a place outside the centre that is well priced and gets great reviews (close to a station, easy to get into town etc)

I dont know Paris well enough to make a call on it - anyone able to give an educated opinion?

A Russian sausage magnate and politician who briefly criticised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has died after falling from the third-floor window of a luxury hotel in India.

Pavel Antov was a member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party and a multi-millionaire, having founded one of Russia’s largest sausage makers.

He was reportedly on a trip to celebrate his upcoming 66th birthday when he was found lying in a pool of blood outside the Hotel Sai International in Rayagada, a district in the southern state of Odisha.

An unnamed police official told India’s NDTV news outlet they suspected he took his own life after becoming depressed about the death of his friend who was found dead in the same hotel.

Vladimir Bidenov was found lying unconscious in his room on the first floor of the hotel on Thursday surrounded by empty wine bottles.

Mr Antov was chairman of the agriculture committee at the legislature in Russia’s Vladimir region and ranked the country’s highest-earning lawmaker by Russian Forbes, with a declared annual income of just under £130 million. He was the founder of Vladimir Standard, a major meat producer.

In July he posted a story on his WhatsApp messaging app, criticising Russia’s missile attacks on Kyiv as “terrorism”.

He was referring to reports of a girl that had been pulled out from rubble after her house had been shelled.

Shortly afterwards, Mr Antov apologised for the post, claiming that the message had been posted by someone else. He said he was “a supporter of the president and my country’s patriot” and “shared the goals” of the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Alexei Idamkin, Russia’s consul-general in Calcutta, told the Tass news agency that there was no foul play in the lawmaker’s death.

A senior police officer was quoted by NDTV as saying Antov was depressed “due to the death of his friend''.

    That's gristly.

Not all the advice given above has been accurate.

Suggest that you check out the Scottish Courts website:-   Dealing With a Deceased's Estate in Scotland (scotcourts.gov.uk)    Loads of useful information there.

Your local Sheriff Clerk can probably give you the names of a few local firms that regularly deal with applications for confirmation.  Then shop around for the best deal.

    Thanks Dave,

I'd assumed,  wrongly it appears, that the Sheriff's Office dealt with the Confirmation - are you saying that I will need to contact a third party?

@Ned Nederlander you should also check if your uncle had a SIPP (lots of people do these days) because the SIPP is not included in the Will nor is it part of the estate but should be covered by an ‘expression of wish’ instruction.

My brother-in-law works for a pension company and has been dealing with that side of things.

Thanks though, I don't think I'd have chased it up if he hadn't asked.

If the estate is fairly small, your best bet is to go to your local Sheriff Court where they will tell you how to go about getting Confirmation. I found them very helpful with my Aunts and my mother’s estates.

If your uncle owned his house then you’ll need a solicitor.

This is one of the things that had been confusing me - I'd initially read up on applying for Probate without realising that up here it's Confirmation and is slightly different - I think phoning the Sheriff's Office will be my first step

    Thanks.

You need to establish firstly if you Uncle''s estate is classed as a Small or Large Estate.

I was Executor for one of my brothers which was a Small Estate (under £36,000) and I dealt with all the formalities with the Bank and the Sheriff Clerk then distributed the funds with my siblings. Took about 2 to 3 months

I was also Executor for my Mum's will which was a Large Estate and was dealt with by the family lawyer who liaised with me and didn't involve much on my part other than a couple of meetings with the lawyer. This took about 6 months to complete.

Thanks, that's helpful - My Uncle's is classed as a Large Estate (albiet only just), he has no property but leaves a cash sum - his will states that the cash should be split evenly between his nieces & nephews

I think it's quite straightforward and had considered not getting a lawyer - sounds like he'd take all the strain though - can you remember if he was expensive?

    Week 34 update

One death this week, the footballer Lenny Johnrose: Lenny Johnrose dead aged 52: Ex-Burnley ace passes away five years after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease | The Sun

I've seen a documentary or something about that Swansea season. Maybe it was Football Focus. Anyway, here's video. I'm a big fan of the mascot running out with the players, big floppy swan neck bobbing about:

It seems as if there have been a lot of MND diagnoses in sportsmen lately. I don't really have anything else to add besides I hope it never happens to me or anyone I know.

That fourth Swansea goal is a belter.
